Oxygen in the lab was discovered, the first roller skating rink opened, Columbus set sail on his first voyage, the First World War began, the sandwich was created, World War II began, Victory over Japan day took place, the Mona Lisa was stolen, the Red Cross was founded, Mount Vesuvius erupted and killed 2,000 people, and Martin Luther King made his I Have a Dream speech. The Beatles released Help! in 1965 and played their Shea Stadium concert, then played their last concert on tour at Candlestick Park in San Francisco in 1966 (these guys stayed busy in August!), Babe Ruth becomes the first baseball player to hit 500 home runs in 1929, the first Woodstock music festival was held, Hawaii became a state, and Princess Diana was killed in August. That is all history. Something that takes place every day of our lives. We can make history in our own lives positive or negative. You choose if August is going to be filled with joy and happiness or doom and gloom. We at Allegro choose Joy and Happiness and want you to be a part of it. Enjoy your month.

He is best known for his role alongside Robin Williams in Hook. If you missed him this time, be sure you don t when he returns; he s an amazing performer you have to see! Raushan is a great entertainer that Allegro is thrilled to have! Appearing on shows like Tales from the Crypt, ER, and Family Matters. He also directed and starred in his own movie "24 Hours in Las Vegas!

3 3 Mona Lisa Bradfordville FBC Children Paper tissue flowers and personal drawings were given to residents by the children from the local church. All the red heads had to debut with one of Allegro s own staff. It s the most well known Renaissance painting in the world, painted by the great Leonardo da Vinci, but it didn t start out that way! The painting was one of many in the Louvre museum in 1911, but it wasn t until Vincenzo Peruggia, stole the painting in this very month of August, that it became the famous work it is today. After the theft, the painting was plastered on every newspaper as police hunted for the painting for years, making every headline. The exposure put the painting on its pedestal as the Louvre s main attraction, drawing over 9.7 million viewers a year!

4 4 HUMOR! *I bought a cactus awhile ago, but after about a month it died, which was pretty disappointing, because now I know I m less nurturing than a desert. *I burned 2,000 calories in a day. Still can t believe I left those cookies in the oven for that long. *Women call me ugly until they learn how much money I make; then they call me ugly and poor. *Everyone laughed when I told them I wanted to be a comedian. Well, no one is laughing now. The Young Actors Theater Thrilled the Audience at Allegro With Matilda! The Group Was Comprised of Elementary and Middle School Aged Actors. It Was Amazing To Watch the Talent of These Young People in Our Midst. Matilda Is a Musical and All Those Who Performed Were Outstanding, Singing and Dancing Their Way Into the Hearts of Allegro Residents and Staff. What a Privilege to Have the Group Perform for Us. Check there to be caught up on the schedule! We will also try and inform you all of the channel and network that each game will be featured on! We will also play each game on the second floor TV room, some come out and cheer on the Noles! Everything You Need to Know About Opening Nights! Opening Nights is a great opportunity for you all to see some amazing talent and unforgettable performances! Held every year, Opening Nights showcases some great performances ranging from comedy to music, and we are going to be offering a chance to attend any and all of them you want! We have placed sign-up sheets for all of them inside of an Opening Nights magazine, with each page holding its corresponding sign-up sheet. Feel free to read over them to get an idea of the type of performance and see the ticket price. These events are generally later on the weekends, so to make it worth our while to go, we are requiring a MINIMUM OF SEVEN people to sign up to attend! So if you re interested in an event, spread the word and make sure we fill the bus! Opening Nights offers everything from bluegrass bands and comedians to puppet shows and a Beatles tribute band. There is even an accordion player in there! You don t want to miss out on your chance to see some truly spectacular acts, so make sure you sign up as soon as possible! Bring questions to Austin or Cheryl! Facts Allegro s Resident Council, Welcome Committee, And Activity Committee Meet Each Month, but You Don t Have to Be a Member of Any of These to Attend the Meetings. We Welcome the Input From All Residents. Dogs and Cats All dog and cat owners will have a meeting on Monday the 6th at 11 a.m. in the Activity Room. Please do not bring your animal with you to this meeting.

6 6 Talent Show It s time again for Allegro s annual resident and staff talent show! This year, it will be held on Tuesday, August 14th, in the dining room! Are you a musician? A comedian? A master of magic tricks? Or maybe a poet? Any and all acts are welcome! So be sure to sign up well ahead of time with your talent and start practicing! Rehearsal will be the 13th at 3:00, so if you re interested in performing be sure to be there and be signed up beforehand so we can incorporate you into the show. You must attend rehearsal! We look forward to a large and entertaining show! Allegro Staff and Resident Art Show Amazing pieces everyone! We are so lucky to house such talent!

7 7 Meet some of your New Neighbors. Give the New Residents a big hand! Introduce yourself, have a meal with them and let them know you are glad they are your neighbors. Al and Ruth Jim John Make Time to Play Playtime isn t just for kids! Scientists say it s good for grown-ups to make time for engaging, pleasing activities for their overall health. The fun of play often involves laughter, which releases the feel-good brain chemical dopamine and boosts your mood. Come play with us at Allegro. Whether it be ringing a bell with the Bells of Allegro, socializing during Social Hour in the Heritage Club, playing Bridge, creating a craft, joining in our sing a longs, playing pool, throwing a horseshoe, trying your hand at Poker, eating out with us, taking a risk on the Mystery Trip, attending the entertainment in-house, viewing plays at Tallahassee Theater, attending an OLLI class, venturing out to performances at FSU or just playing BINGO, we would love to have you become a part of our Play Times. Meet and Greet! New residents and friendly neighbors alike, be sure to mark your calendars for the New Resident Meet N Greet! It will be held in the Activities Room on August 12th at 3:00! This is a great opportunity for you to get to know some of your neighbors and meet some of the many new faces! You may even realize that you have a lot more in common than you ever thought! In fact, the first time we held this event, two couples realized that they both got married on the same day in the same year! Small world huh? So make yourself known and meet some new friends! We look forward to seeing you all!
