FINANCIAL AID NIGHT: JUNIORS & JUNIOR PARENTS: There will be a Financial Aid Meeting for all Junior s and their parents on Tuesday, April 23 in the high school Media Center (library) at 5:30 PM. GLR SHOOTING SCHOOL: Coach Luenberger and Coach Geerdes have been contact with B.E.S.T. Shooting School and have set up some dates for them to come work with our kids. The High School session will be June 11, 14, 20, 21, 25, & 28 and the Middle School session will be July 1 & 2. Each session will be 1 hour long. Forms are in the high school and middle school office. Students may register on-line or bring the form along with payment back to school by Wednesday, April 24. Cost is $115. Make checks payable to BEST, Inc. YEARBOOK STAFF, SAT STUDENTS, STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS: Will be taking group pictures Wednesday, April 24 in the gym at 1:00. SPEECH BREAKFAST: The 26 th Annual Speech Breakfast has been moved to Friday, April 26 at 6:45 AM. FUNDRAISERS FOR MRS. HAMILTON: For the next few weeks, there will be a few activities as a fundraiser for Mrs. Hamilton. April 15 through April 19, baked goods will be sold during 1 st and 2 nd lunch in the old commons for $.50. There will be a few more fundraisers that you will be notified throughout the next few weeks. Please bring all money to Ruth at the front office! FOOTBALL MEETING: Will be Wednesday, April 24 at 2:50 in the Auditorium for 9-11 grade guys wanting to go out for football next fall. COMMUNITY SERVICE: If anyone is interested in clocking some community service hours for the IPASS, there is a sign-up sheet in the office. Write your name AND what time you are available and either Mr. Helkenn or Mr. Geerdes will contact you. SPRING MUSIC CONCERTS: Due to conflicts there is a change in the George Elementary and HS spring concerts. Here are the dates and times: The George Elementary Spring Concert will be Monday, April 29 at 6:30 PM The High School Spring Concert will be Monday, April 29 at 7:30 PM IPASS INFORMATION: To obtain an IPASS this year there are 3 main criteria that students will need to do to earn points towards getting an IPASS. The Scoring System will run from March 29-May 20, Students must attain at least 12 points in order to get an IPASS. Criteria I: TARDIES This will be for all periods, not just 1 st period. o 0 tardies 5 pts o 1-2 tardies 4 pts o >3 tardies 0 pts Criteria II: ABSENCES This will be excused or unexcused absences. This does not include school sponsored events or college visits o 0-.5 absences 5 pts o 1-2 absences 4 pts o 3-4 absences 3 pts o >4 absences 0 pts Criteria III: ISASP/CPR/NCRC PERFORMANCE AND BEHAVIOR This is a subjective category and will require teachers to grade each student individually on how the student behaves during the test. Examples: Did the student meet room behavior expectations during the test? Did they bring something to read? Were they a distraction? o A behavior 5 pts
3 o B behavior 4 pts o C behavior 3 pts o D behavior 2 pts o F behavior 0 pts Extra points can be banked through volunteer community service activities organized by Mr. Helkenn and Mr. Geerdes. Examples would include grounds cleanup, elementary/middle school outreach, etc. Every Friday, during 8 th period, from March 29 to May 17 will be dedicated to these projects. A signup sheet will be in the office. o 1 hour = 1 pt Deductions: Points will be deducted for the following behaviors: o Office discipline referral 2 pt deduction o ISS/OSS 5 pt deduction BROADWAY BOUND: Will have their final meeting Wednesday, May 8 at 5:30 PM in the High School Auditorium. We will use this opportunity to discuss the rules for the trip, put together a rooming list, review the itinerary, and discuss the final payments (which aren t due until the end of the month). It is imperative all students are present, and it would be nice if all adults were present as well. MAKE-UP DAYS: We will be making up 4 of the missed days from this winter. The make-up days are Wednesday, May 22, Thursday, May 23, Friday, May 24, Tuesday, May 28, and Wednesday, May 29. Last day for students is May 29. Teacher work day will be Thursday, May 30. MUSTANG GEAR: We are doing another Mustang Gear sale for our spring/summer sports! Order online or fill out a printable order form found on the school website using the following link: SUMMER JOB OPPORTUNITIES: The City of George is accepting applications for the following 2019 summer help: Mowing must by 16+ Street Help must be 18+ with valid driver s license Swimming Pool Manger Assistant Swimming Pool Manger Full and Part-Time Lifeguards 15+ and be able to obtain certification Benefits for these positions are: Competitive pay, bonus raises for return employees and good work evaluations, flexible hours, swimsuit allowance, training reimbursement of $100 for WSI certification, reimbursement for half of cost for Lifeguard Certification or re-certification, a fun work environment and great work experience. There are some basketball designs along with a Fine Arts design and some generic GLR designs. If you have 6 or less items in your order, you may order online following the link. Otherwise you can print out the order form attached at the above address or pick up an order form in the office of any of district s buildings. DRESS CODE-For ALL High School Students: Seems like we are having a little issue with the dress code. Here is a list of inappropriate clothing that should not be worn: * Spaghetti straps, midriff tops, muscle shirts, short shorts or skirts as well as low cut tops or extremely tight clothing is inappropriate. The bottom hem of the shorts/skirt must reach the student's fingertips when the arm is extended by the side. Tops must reach the top of a student's pants/skirt when sitting or standing. Undergarments must not be exposed or visible. * Clothing or accessories that advertise or promote items that are illegal to minors,
4 such as alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs are prohibited. Any clothing or accessories with either pictures or words that infer, suggest, hint or imply lewd or sexual content are prohibited. * Clothing that is inappropriate to the environment (area or weather) should not be worn. No shoes with cleats are allowed indoors. Hats, caps, head wear of any kind, sunglasses, chains, and/or gang-related clothing is prohibited, unless the principal give specific approval * Pants in which underwear is showing are inappropriate. Pants that are too big also pose a safety issue in vocational areas. Dress that is disruptive to the learning environment, but is not specifically mentioned in the Parent/Student Handbook, is inappropriate. If dressed inappropriately, students will be told to change clothing. If there are any doubts about the appropriateness of the attire, DON'T WEAR IT. STUDENT PARKING: All students should park in the parking lot west of the elementary building. The front spaces with a horse in it is for the Seniors. Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshen should park in the other spaces. Do not park in the spaces that have a S in it. That is for the staff members. COLLEGE VISITS: SENIORS & JUNIORS: If you would like to meet with a representative from one of the following colleges, please sign up in the office prior to their arrival. When the rep gets here, we will call you to the office. All college meetings will be in the lounge area of the Media Center. The following colleges will be here: ATHLETIC TRAINER: Chad Grotewold from Orthopedic Institute will have his outreach clinic at the GLR high school this year.
