LYON COUNTY REC YOUTH TOUR JUNIORS: If you would like to win a trip to Washington, DC this summer (June 14-20), talk to Mrs. Johnson by Monday, Jan. 28 to see how you can have a chance to win this trip. VARSITY WRESTLING MEET: For Monday, Jan. 28 will be in Heelan vs. Heelan and Kingsley Pierson. The meet will begin at 5:30. The bus will leave at 2:30. Wrestlers will need to be dismissed at 2:15. SPEECH PRACTICE SCHEDULE: Jan Today: Group Mime 3:30 PM Friday: Group Improv 8:00 AM ALL SPEECH GROUPS: Will perform at the Evening of Performance on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7:00 PM. You will be able to return costumes, props, etc. at that time. This will be the opportunity for your family and friends to see what you ve been up to, take pictures, and record your performances. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY APPLICATIONS: For eligible Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are due to Mrs. Negus by Friday, Feb. 1. DRIVER S ED-2 ND SEMESTER: If you would like to take the Driver s Ed Course this semester, please stop in the office to sign up. The class will be limited to only 25 students, so get signed up early. Class will begin Monday, February 25. Please pick up a Registration form and the
2 SOFTBALL: Those interested in going out for softball this year need to sign up in the office. INDIVIDUAL SPEECH: is now underway. Look outside Mrs. Sandbulte s room for practice times. Put your name next to the time slots that work best for your schedule. You do NOT sign up for a time and then forget, erase at the last minute, and basically leave Mrs. Sandbulte standing. District Individuals is February 22 nd. If you intend to come out for Individual Speech, please see Mrs. Sandbulte THIS WEEK! She is finalizing the roster. BROADWAY BOUND STUDENTS: It take five points in the Liberal Arts Department to travel with us this summer. Several people have 0 points earned so far. You will NOT be going in August if you do not meet the minimum expectations. All this was explained when you signed up. If you have any questions, refer to the original contract, or stop by and visit with Mrs. Sandbulte, Mr. Mauldin, or Mrs. Lewis. ITEMS FOR ATLAS: For their Genius Week project, Taylor Gross, Ashlee Rypkema, Karli Petersen, Mackenzie Jurrens and Emily Jensen focused on hunger and family support in the surrounding areas. So for January thru May they will have different items to collect for each month for ATLAS. For January please bring your items to the high school Library. For Feb. May the classes will bring their items to the following rooms: Freshman Mr. Vigdal Sophomores Mrs. Sandbulte Juniors Mrs. Hamilton Seniors Mr. Glanzer Here is what you will collect for each month. Jumping January 9-31 Beginning on Jan. 9 they will be collecting size 4 and 5 diapers and baby wipes. Bring them to the Library Flavorful February 1-28 February is known as a month of love. Beginning on February 1 they will be collecting cooking oils, dried herbs and spices, and pastas which would make a perfect romantic supper. March Madness 1-29 In the month of March they will have a competition. Beginning March 1 each canned Tuna and canned Chicken item that is brought in will be worth 3 points. Each cream soup and canned soup items you bring in will be worth 2 points. Each canned vegetable, canned beans, canned dried fruit and honey, and canned tomatoes will be worth 1 point. April Showers 1-30 In the month of April they will be collecting body wash, toilet paper, Kleenex, and paper towels. Easy Peezy Summer Drive May is the month you get out of school so for the month of May (May 1-17) they will be collecting the foods that are easy and fast. These include: applesauce, instant mashed potatoes, rice, crackers, cereals, meals in boxes, granola bars, and nuts. All of the items listed above are the items that Lyon County ATLAS is in need of most. SENIORS: Yearbook order forms need to be turned in. You also need to get your senior and baby pictures to Karen Wibben like now. 9th-11th GRADE STUDENTS: Please turn in your yearbook order forms. Karen Wibben needs a definite your or no if you would like a 2019 yearbook. No payment is due at this time, just a yes or no PLEASE!!
3 NEW GUIDELINES AT HOME EVENTS IN THE GYM/COMMONS: New rules have been set into place to have a better atmosphere for all our fans at GLR. Please follow the following rules: The Back Hallway (locker room hall) will ONLY be used by: Coaches, Team Members (players, managers, statisticians, etc.), Cheerleaders, and Referees. No student(s) will be allowed out of the gym during live game time. They must wait for timeouts, breaks between quarters, halftime, and down time between games to leave their seats to get items from the concession stand or to use the restroom. In the STUDENT SECTION only students in Grades 5-12 will be allowed to sit in this section without an adult. All students under Grade 5 must be sitting with an adult. Students are prohibited from running or playing in the Commons Area. If a student leaves the high school without permission from a school official, they must pay at the gate to reenter the school. MUSTANG APPAREL: Mustang Apparel is available to order on the school website. Go to to view the catalog and designs for this year. There are some basketball designs along with a Fine Arts design and some generic GLR designs. If you have 6 or less items in your order, you may order online following the link. Otherwise you can print out the order form attached at the above address or pick up an order form in the office of any of district s buildings. SENIORS: The time is here!! Please start handing in your Senior Photo and Baby Picture for the yearbook. Karen needs them to complete the Senior pages in the 2019 yearbook. Thank you!! DRESS CODE-For ALL High School Students: Seems like we are having a little issue with the dress code. Here is a list of inappropriate clothing that should not be worn: * Spaghetti straps, midriff tops, muscle shirts, short shorts or skirts as well as low cut tops or extremely tight clothing is inappropriate. The bottom hem of the shorts/skirt must reach the student's fingertips when the arm is extended by the side. Tops must reach the top of a student's pants/skirt when sitting or standing. Undergarments must not be exposed or visible. * Clothing or accessories that advertise or promote items that are illegal to minors, such as alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs are prohibited. Any clothing or accessories with either pictures or words that infer, suggest, hint or imply lewd or sexual content are prohibited. * Clothing that is inappropriate to the environment (area or weather) should not be worn. No shoes with cleats are allowed indoors. Hats, caps, head wear of any kind, sunglasses, chains, and/or gang-related clothing is prohibited, unless the principal give specific approval * Pants in which underwear is showing are inappropriate. Pants that are too big also pose a safety issue in vocational areas. Dress that is disruptive to the learning environment, but is not specifically mentioned in the Parent/Student Handbook, is inappropriate. If dressed inappropriately, students will be told to change clothing. If there are any doubts about the appropriateness of the attire, DON'T WEAR IT. STUDENT PARKING: All students should park in the parking lot west of the elementary building. The front spaces with a horse in it is for the Seniors. Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshen should park in the other spaces. Do not park in the spaces that have a S in it. That is for the staff members.
4 FYI: If you are using ice in plastic bag from the athletic training room, please empty the ice/water into a sink and then throw the plastic bag into the trash.
