2 Boots & Spurs Those who are currently involved in the club will be working with Hardin County to obtain the needed educational hours to show in the spring/summer. Make plans to give a speech or demonstration at the County Talk Meet in April and you will receive 1 HOUR of educational credit. You MUST sign up ahead of time for the Talk Meet. Cloverbuds (Ages 5-8) A mini-day camp will be planned for this group one day during Spring Break. It will last 3-4 hours. If this is something you would be interested in, please call to sign up. Livestock Club February meeting will be on the 6th at 7:00 PM in the Large Meeting Room. Photography Club Meeting on February 12 from 5-6:30. Please be prepared to be present longer than normal meetings to make extra time for the theme. Kids will need to wear white or neon colored clothing for black lights. Sewing Club Sewing Club will meet on February 9, 16, & 23 at 3:30 in the Large Meeting Room. Shooting Sports Shooting Sports has finished up for the season. The new shooting season will begin after Spring Break For more information about shooting sports contact the Extension Office at Teen Club February 12 meeting will be at 3:15. The club will be discussing fundraisers. Wild at Art Club February meeting with the be 15th at 4:00. Don t forget to request to join the Facebook group if you are not already a part of it! 3 Important Information Regarding Speeches & Demonstrations Consider competing in the county level speech and demonstration contest. The 4-H Council will be giving prize money to put toward a 4-H event (i.e. 4-H Camp, Horse Events, Shooting Sports Events, Teen Conference, etc.) There will be prizes for the following: Overall winners for Junior & Senior Speeches and Junior & Senior Demonstrations: 1st Place- $75 2nd Place- $50 3rd Place- $25 County Speeches & Demonstrations County Date: April 23, 2018; Located at Grayson County Extension Office, Time 4:00 p.m. Winners move to Area level to be held on Thursday, May 3 Please stop at the Extension Office for Complete Rules This contest teaches youth the parts of a good speech or demonstration, how to write the text, effective delivery techniques and gives lots of opportunities to practice in front of others. Speech Categories (by age): Juniors- 9, 10, 11, 12, 13: The 4-Her may have assistance in writing and preparation based on age level. Speeches must be 3 to 5 minutes long. Seniors 14, 15, 16, 17, 18: Because this is an educational learning experience, the Senior 4-Her is expected to choose a topic, research and write their own speech. A participant may have help with practicing the speech. Speeches must be between 5 to 7 minutes long. NO VISUAL AIDS FOR SPEECHES (COSTUMES ARE CONSIDERED VISUAL AIDS). NO DRAMATIC READINGS, DRAMATIC MONOLOGUES, OR RECITATION OF POEMS. Demonstrations: Junior/Senior age categories same as speeches but broken into category (I.e. foods, wood working, etc) Time limit for project demonstrations will be 5-15 minutes. (INCLUDING BREADS) At the SENIOR LEVEL, the 4-H er is expected to demonstrate original work choosing a topic, researching it and writing their own speech or demonstration. The internet may be used as a reference source but NOT as a source for a non-original speech or demonstration. CALL TO SIGN UP BY APRIL 18!!!

4 Fundraisers Through these fundraisers, 4-Her s have an opportunity to earn money toward the clubs they are active in, or as individuals to put toward the overall cost of a 4-H event coming up. Fundraiser Opportunity Country Meats Meat Sticks 4-H will be selling these tasty meat sticks for $1 each. Flavors vary. If you are interested in selling, please contact Kindra, or stop in the office. Limited supply will be on hand, but sellers can take order sheets and additional orders can be made. These meat sticks are NOT greasy, they are very tasty, and they don t leave the greasy aftertaste like regular jerky. They make for great afterschool snacks, hunting or camping trips, vacation car rides, or pre/post sporting events! *There is not a set time frame for this fundraiser and can be on-going dependent on sales.* LITTLE CAESAR S PIZZA KIT SALES Come by the Extension Office the FIRST FULL week of FEBRUARY (5th 9th) to pick up order packets. Orders will be taken through March 1. Anyone who is interested in placing an order can contact a club member or individual selling, or place an order at the Extension Office. MONEY MUST BE COLLECTED AT TIME OF SALE! Delivery date is shooting for March 8...you MUST pick up the orders from the office on the delivery day! If school is cancelled, ALL 4-H meetings will be cancelled for that day. If there are meetings on the weekends and winter weather hits, contact your club leader for meeting information. If school lets out early, club meetings will be cancelled as well. In the event of bad weather after school, for evening meetings, contact your club leader for information.
