Every child deserves to be recognized for the great things they are doing. Help us celebrate #InspireKidsToDo during National 4-H Week by shouting out your favorite 4- H er! 4-H'ers, show your pride by participating in the three contests below! Poster Contest: Create a poster about your 4-H Experience or why you love 4-H! Enter posters at the Extension Office by Mon. Oct 1st. Photo Contest: Share your favorite 4-H related photo with us for the Harvey County 4-H Photo Contest. Photos must be ed to ajanzen@ksu.edu by Mon. Oct. 1st with a caption, the name of 4-H er and 4-H age. Photos will be shared on our Facebook page. Votes will be tallied by likes on each photo. The age groups for Poster and Photo entries are Cloverbuds, 7-12 and 13 and over. Window Display Contest: Create a promotional 4-H window display in a local business space. Be creative! One entry per Club. Displays must be up by Sunday, Oct. 1 and registered with the Extension Office. Awards Judging- Help Needed! We are in need of former 4-H parents or 4-H alumni to assist with our awards judging. Please consider helping with this process! If you are willing to assist, or if you have an idea of a 4-H volunteer that might be interested in serving in this way, please contact me at aelpers@ksu.edu or by calling the Extension Office. Review dates are October 15th 19th 8:30am-5:00pm at the Harvey County Extension Office.
2 FIRM DEADLINES: RETURNING 4-H MEMBER: JANUARY 1ST, 2019 PROJECT ENROLLMENT (CHANGES/ADDITIONS): MAY 10TH, 2019 Happy 4-H New Year! The 4-H Year begins every October. It is time to reenroll and is also time to select 4-H project to participate in. As a reminder, in order to exhibit an item at the County Fair, 4-H ers are required to be enrolled in the corresponding project in 4-H Online by May 10th. Why not try something new? Choose from over 30 4-H Projects to enroll in. Local support for projects may vary. It's time to celebrate our 4-H year and reflect on how much progress our 4-H program and members had this year. If you are coming to this event, please purchase tickets at the Extension Office by Friday, November 9th. Those that are unable to pick them up, call the office at or to make special arrangements. Cost: 4-H'ers that turned in a KAP and/or exhibited at the county fair this year: free Other 4-H members or non-4-h members 7 years old and under: $5 each Non-4-H members and adults ages 8 years & up: $8 each Each club is asked to bring 2 cakes or desserts of your choice. If possible please bring desserts by the church early, around 5:00 P.M. Thanks! Invite all friends ages 13-18!. Come enjoy team games and snacks at this Kick Off event! Sign Up to help at the Taste of Newton! Oct. 4th, 5-10PM The Junior Leaders sell New Year s Cookies at the festival each year a 4-H tradition! This is the main fundraiser for 4-H Junior Leaders all year, so we need EVERYONE to help! We need volunteers to make dough, fry cookies, and help sell. If you can help, please call the office and let us know! The 4-H Photography group will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Lincoln Park Apartments, 400 W. Sixth St. in Newton. Those attending should use the west doors. Someone will be there to let you in, as the doors are locked. Bring a camera and a parent, if you wish! For information, contact Wendy. POULTRY Leader: Carrie Budde-White Phone: Poultry Meeting will be Sunday, October 14th at 4:00 PM Next Meeting will be at the Fall Show in Hutchinson the weekend of November 17th. In Harvey County we are fortunate to have a lot of county-wide project leaders. They work hard to plan and schedule meetings for 4-H ers. If you are enrolled in one of the projects where there are county-wide meetings, PLEASE make every effort to attend the meetings. ATTENTION 4-H FAMILIES Please be aware that 4-H Online enrollment must be submitted before the following dates. 5 Apply to be a Harvey County 4-H Ambassador Applications to become a Harvey County 4-H Ambassador are due Tuesday, October 31 st, Any motivated 4- H er who is a high school freshman to age 18 is encouraged to apply! The purpose of the 4-H Ambassadors is to work together with a team of approximately 3-8 ambassadors and adult advisor to develop a public information program for the Harvey County 4-H Program. Through this experience, 4-H Ambassadors will have opportunities to learn, practice and improve communication, marketing, employability and job skills. Forms needed: Completed Ambassador Application (pick up one in our office or on our website) Sealed reference form (part of application) Interviews for 4-H Ambassador will be on November 7th, Kansas Youth Leadership Forum (KYLF) Kansas Volunteer Forum (KVF) The Forums will be held November 17-19, 2017 at Rock Springs 4-H Center. KYLF is for youth ages before January 1, 2018 and KVF is for all Kansas 4-H Volunteers. KYLF will feature leadership workshops, Youth Council Elections, and opportunities to learn and have fun. Registration deadline is October 15, 2018 for both events at an early bird rate or before November 1, 2018 at the regular rate. Contact the Extension Office to register.
