Greene County Clean Up Day Lenoir County & NC State Fair Events Calendar of Events These events or activities are operated under the 4-H Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedure. The NC 4-H Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedure is a condition of participation in 4-H events and activities. For any meeting or activity in this newsletter, persons with disabilities and persons with limited English proficiency may request accommodations to participate by contacting Emily Hardy at , , fax at , or in person at least 7 days prior to the event. GREENE COUNTY 4-H Volume 4, Issue 5 September - October H YOUTH COUNCIL SEEKS NEW MEMBERS N Greene County 4-H is looking ARE for UNDERWAY teens in grades 7th-13th to apply for membership in this youth organization! We are looking for innovative teens who want to make a difference in their community by working with and guiding the 4-H program. These teens have the ability to earn over 30 hours of volunteer/community service hours by participating in this youth group and have the ability to positively impact the youth in Greene County! Youth must complete all 3 parts of the application process by Wednesday, September 10th in order to become a member. The first part of the application can be completed online at greene.ces.ncsu.edu. The second part of the application is to get a letter of reference and have it ed to Mrs. Emily by September 10th. The 3rd part is to have an updated H Enrollment packet on file and have it completed to Mrs. Emily or your school secretary by September 10th. Teamwork It takes a great team to make an awesome 4-H program grow and thrive! 4-H Youth Council Members work together to accomplish their goals in a fun and safe environment. Leadership Development 4-H Youth Council members plan, organize, and implement fun and challenging events that bring out the best leader you can be! 2 Upcoming Important Dates to Have on your Calendar: Sept. 10: Youth Council Application Packets Due Sept. 14: Craft Workshop Sept. 22: Baking Workshop October 3: Greene County Clean Up October 4-10: National 4-H Week Greene County 4-H ers Preparing to Celebrate National 4-H Week October 4 10, 2015 Six million young people across the country will celebrate National 4-H Week, an annual celebration of 4-H during the first full week of October. The week long event will showcase the great things that 4-H offers young people and will highlight the incredible 4-H youth in the community who work each day to make a positive impact on the community. Highlights for the Celebration: T-Shirt Tuesday (Greene County 4-H ers are encouraged to wear 4-H T-shirts) Power of Youth Assembly, 6:30pm at Farmers Market MUST RSVP by Monday, October 5 th So Fun Saturday at Atomic Laser Dome in Greenville at 6:30pm MUST RSVP by Monday, October 5 th Your National 4-H Week packet will come in the mail to you with more details, but go ahead and mark your calendars now for these fun events. Stay up to date with all 4-H events at our Facebook Page (Greene County 4-H) or visit our website at ces.ncsu.edu/greene. Follow us on Instagram at GC4H. How to Become a 4-H er? 4-H is one of the many youth the left menu bar for the 4-H Youth organizations that membership is FREE Development, click here and scroll down for all youth! Youth, ages 5-18, become to print off these forms. You can also members by completing a 4-H enrollment contact Emily Hardy to learn more about form, medical release form and agree to how 4-H can benefit you and your family the 4-H Code of Conduct. These forms and to request these forms. The forms must be updated every year. If your are a mandatory part of 4-H and must child would like to become a 4-H er be completed in their entirety. 4-H please go to our website: enrollment is open for youth (ages 5-18) then look on and this age is determined by the age of the child as of January 1 st of that year.
3 The Club Corner COMMUNITY SERVICE: As being a 4-H club member, it is important to keep giving back to our community. All clubs must do a community service project before December to re-charter their club for the 2016 club year. Always be on the lookout for opportunities to help others! Next opportunity for clubs to participate in will be the Greene County Clean Up on Saturday, October 3 rd. All clubs are expected to host a clean up site, but the date is optional. Contact Emily with information about your clean up event. CLUB MEETINGS: **Club Leaders: Don t forget to get your attendance reports in online. AMBASSADOR PORTFOLIOS: The mission of the NC 4-H Ambassador program is to empower teen 4-H leaders with the knowledge, skills and aspirations necessary to be effective advocates for NC 4-H. We strengthen and expand upon 4-H Ambassadors' current leadership abilities so that they may serve as positive role models for younger youth; build meaningful partnerships with other teens, adult volunteers, and 4-H professionals; and promote the 4-H mission in NC. The next portfolio deadline is October 8 th to Emily. If you re missing items to make your notebook complete, let her know so she can catch you up. FRESH WREATH SALES: Beginning in November we will begin to sell live, fresh wreaths for our annual fundraiser. This is an easy way for our 4-H ers to earn clover cash to attend summer day camps, teen retreats, Congress, the fun things Greene County 4-H offers! After the first 3 wreaths are sold, for every wreath after that $8 will go into their clover cash account. Not a bad deal! Wreaths typically come in the 1 st week of December. STATE COUNCIL CONFERENCE: Dates are November in Raleigh. This event is for youth ages and is a fun interactive event where our district officer teams lead the workshops. Full time registration is $140, with a $70 deposit due by October 9 th and the remainder due by November 6 th. T-shirts are an additional $15. Contact Emily for a registration form & for more information. Lenoir County & NC State Fair Events Current 4-H members and parents please check your regarding some great opportunities to get some items entered into the Lenoir County Fair and the NC State Fair and win some $$ through some local workshops! To attend the next craft workshop on Monday, September 14 th please notify Emily of your interest by September 10 th. If you re interested in the baking workshop it is Tuesday, September 22 nd but let Emily know of your interest by September 18 th. All workshops will take place at Calvary United Methodist Church in Snow Hill from 3:30pm thru 8:00pm. On Wednesday, September 23 rd, Emily will take all baked goods made at the baking workshop to enter into the Lenoir County Fair baked good contests but the crafts will be the responsibility of the parents to take to the fair on either September 18 th or 19 th. Check your for more details and for the registration sheet. If parents or volunteers would like to help, please contact Emily at or at emily_hardy@ncsu.edu to see how you can help!
4 Greene County Clean Up Day Join your Local Clean Up! 4-H is sponsoring a Greene County Clean Up Day on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 9:00am thru 12:00pm at the Wildlife Boat Ramp in Snow Hill. We are looking for volunteers to help host other clean up sites around the county as well as volunteers to help clean up trash! If interested in participating at the Wildlife Boat Ramp site, please call Emily ( ) by Thursday, October 1 st. To host your own clean up 1 site, contact her by Friday, September 25 th to get your free clean up supplies and instruction sheets. If October 3 rd isn t a good date for your group, no problem, get in touch with Emily to learn how to get your supplies to host a clean up for another date. THE OCEAN NEEDS YOU! Trash travels. Whether you are inland or on the water, the ocean is always downstream. The ocean provides the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe. Ocean trash is a global problem but has local solutions. Be part of the solution!
