All photos must relate to agriculture. The picture must be taken by the individual listed on the entry label. The entry label must include name, parish, grade and category. Entries are due in the 4-H office by Monday, December 18. Photos entered must have been taken during 2015 and in Louisiana. All entries must be 8 x10 (color or black/white). No other size will be accepted. Inkjet prints are acceptable. All photos must be mounted on a 10 x12 thin art/mount board which will allow a 1 border. (No foam core board.) Each photo must include a one-line title mounted on thin art/ mount board below the photo. You are limited to enter only one photo in each of the following categories: farm animals; horticulture/plants/crops; any other agriculture. Entries cannot be duplicated. Winning photos will be displayed during Ag Expo in January Worldwide Statistics: Worldwide there are an estimated 153 million orphans. National Statistics: Over 510,000 American children are in foster care. If nothing changes before 2020, 75,000 former foster youth, who aged out of the system will experience homelessness! New things are happening in 4-H and the 4-H newsletter will be one of the ways to inform you about events, trips, contests and other opportunities. So your 4-H agent needs your help in giving the 4-H newsletter a new name. Think about catchy titles that reflect how news is delivered through newspapers, magazines, etc. You can submit your idea by writing your title on a sheet of paper including your name, your school name and your grade. Submit it to your 4-H leader by Wednesday, December 9. Submissions will be picked up by Mrs. Powell from the 4-H leader at your school. The winning title will be revealed in the December newsletter.

5 Page 5 Griffin Middle Academy 4-H ers attended Youth Field Day in Chase, Louisiana. If you are years old, interested in sewing and fashion, this may be the camp for you. State Fashion Camp will be held January 23-24, 2016 at Camp Grant Walker. This event will be filled with projects such as T-shirt tote bag, pillowcase, flat iron saver, headbands and much more. Registration will end December 11 by 4:30 p.m. East Carroll Parish can send 2 campers and at least 1 adult leader must attend with the team. A packet containing all the information can be requested by calling the 4-H office at (318) The 2nd Annual 4-H Fishing Clinic taught the fundamentals of fishing knowledge and provided 4-H ers with a positive fishing experience. Professional instruction was provided by dedicated and knowledgeable Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries staff. We would like to thank the parents, volunteers and 4-H ers for making this event a success! Feeling festive? Get in the holiday spirit by using your creativity to design a card for elderly residents in East Carroll Parish. The best part about this event is the 2-for-1 feature: a 4-H contest AND a service project rolled into one! Contest entries will be forwarded to elderly Lake Providence residents in December. All members of 4-H are eligible to participate. RULES: 1) Entries must be the member s original design on an 8.5 x 5.5 inch (or 5.5 x 8.5) paper; 2) Members are encouraged to incorporate a holiday theme and may include the 4-H name or emblem. A greeting/message should be included in the design; 3) Include the student s name, grade and school on the back of the card; 4) Entries must be received at December 4-H club meetings. Winners will be announced in December.

6 Adventure camp was held at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, Louisiana on November 6-8. The campers enjoyed a weekend of fun-filled educational challenges. Campers in attendance were: Ja Diamond Scott, Ja Larrion Newson, Kelvin Lane, Jr., DeVonte Terrell, Wydette Williams, Jr. and Jaylan Bell. Key Club & Award of Excellence The 4-H Key Club Award (ages 16 and up) and Award of Excellence (ages 14 and under) gives recognition to 4-H members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their club and in the parish. The object of the program is to encourage project growth, a broad program of 4-H members who have shown outstanding leadership ability. To be considered, fill out an application and turn it in to the 4-H office by December 18. A T-shirt quilt workshop will be held on Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the East Carroll Parish Library. Ever had the problem of not wanting to throw out a T-shirt because it held a special memory or was an important event in your life? Well, make those memories into a quilt! You can take your old, favorite T-shirts that you cannot wear anymore and have them as a quilt to keep you warm at night. Pre-register by Friday, December 18, no fee required. Ages 14 and up. You don t want to miss this workshop. Clay Pierce, a 7th grade 4-Her at Briarfield Academy competed in the State Livestock Show held in Shreveport, Louisiana. Congratulations to Clay for his accomplishments! The Honey Bee Essay Contest information has been released with the 2016 topic of Bees and Pollination. How Important is It? Essays should be ed to jfox@agcenter.lsu.edu by February 1, Prepare essays double-spaced, 12-pt. Times or similar style, following standard manuscript format. Submit as a Microsoft Word compatible document.
