ANNUAL 4-H PET SHOW Saturday, October 26th, 9AM to Noon, Lutcher High School FEATURING OUR PET PARADE & ANIMAL WALK! PAWS FOR PETS POETRY & STORY WRITING CONTEST Our judges are interested in your pet! You might be asked quesons like: What kind of food do you feed your pet? How often should you feed a pet like yours? Does your pet bathe? Do you take care of it s teeth? Do you have an evacuation plan that includes your pet? What is something very interesting about your pet? Please bring only HEALTHY, WELL-BEHAVED PETS Write or type an original poem or story & attach a picture of your pet or a pet you would like to have. Picture can be hand-drawn. Fill out the ENTRY FORM in this newsletter. Turn in your entry to your club leader or the 4-H office. Deadline Friday, October 18th. AWARDS will be given in elementary and high school categories. Winners will be announced at the Pet Show. Winner need not be present. *Open to members who don t have a pet or have a pet and will not be able to attend the Pet Show.

Character Counts Week BUMPER STICKER or BOOKMARK ART CONTEST FEATURING THE 6 PILLARS OF CHARACTER TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS, CARING & CITIZENSHIP You can enter once in both categories! CHOOSE one Pillar of Character per entry. DRAW your bumper sticker or bookmark (entries must be in color). ADD your message or slogan. Be NEAT and SPELL words correctly. NO glue or tape can be used. INCLUDE ON THE BACK: Full Name, Grade, School Bumper Sticker Category (mandatory dimensions 11 inches long and 3 inches wide). 1. Elementary Category grades 4, 5, 6 2. PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB SHOOTING SPORTS GARDEN CLUB A professional Photographer will be working with our Photography Club! Meetings will be once a month, on Monday afternoons, on dates to be announced. Join us for the fun of photography! You do not have to own a professional camera to join; however, some type of digital camera is recommended. The Outdoor Skills Project Club has both competition and just-for-fun teams in Archery BB Gun Riflery Shotgun Pistol Meeting are on weekends at the Sheriff s Shooting Range in Vacherie. It is not always necessary for students to purchase their own equipment. Deadline for all paperwork is October 17th. Mr. Ken Guidry leads the Garden Project Club, Once a month, members meet at the Fast Food Farm in Gramercy. Learn Gardening Skills & Planting Techniques Work in School Gardens Share the latest horticulture news from the LSU AgCenter 4-H LIVESTOCK PROJECT Parish Livestock Show is January 24-26, 2014 District Livestock Show is January 28-31, There will be a MANDATORY LIVESTOCK MEETING at 7 PM on Wednesday, November 13th at the Public Relations Building in Lutcher. All Livestock shown in St. James Parish must be registered in the 4-H Office. Entry Forms and Signed Rules & Regulations must be submitted as follows: Parish, District, State Beef Breeding, Lambs, Goats, Dairy, Chickens, and Swine Breeding November 9, Parish, District, State Market Swine December 7th, Parish Rabbit Show January 1st, Steer possession date was August 15th. 10 Congratulations to Da Lyasia Landry, our October 4-H Member of the Month! 4-H MEMBER OF THE MONTH Da Lyasia is 4-H member at Vacherie Elementary. This 5th grader is described as dedicated and always willing to give a helping hand with 4-H activities! When asked why she likes 4-H, Da Lyasia replied, It s a FUN CLUB! I like to go to meetings and participate at the Fast Food Farm. I also love going to Achievement Day because I get AWARDS for doing good work. Da Lyasia is the daughter of Terrance and Tameka Landry. Thanks, Da Lyasia, for upholding the motto of 4-H Heart, Head, Hands, Health! OPERATION: 4-H, Helping our Military Heroes State Service Learning Focus This year at 4-H U, the State Citizenship Board voted MILITARY as the state s service learning focus for the year. In effort to create awareness of and support for our military personnel, the board has monthly suggestions for ways your elementary and high school age clubs can get involved. High School Clubs can report any Military Service Projects to the 4-H Agents by May 15th to be eligible for outstanding project awards at 4-H U. All clubs can be recognized for their Military Service Projects at Achievement Day. Ask your club leader for a copy of the OPERATION:4-H flyer or visit 4-hmilitarypartnerships.org for ideas.
