4 Marco Eagles Football Marco Eagles Tackle Football League Player Evaluation and Playing Time: During the first 2-3 weeks of the season, we will be evaluating each player to determine physical condition and athletic ability. Every kid, and sometimes parent, thinks they or their child is the next Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. It is our goal, as a football staff, to put your child where they have the greatest opportunity to achieve success. Every player will play in every game. Although we can not guarantee equal playing time, we strive as an organization to give any every player a chance to continue development whether it is their first year in the program or an experienced player. Practice is considered mandatory not optional, and may impede the development of your child s development on the field and playing time. Unexcused absence from practice is not acceptable, and can make an impact on game participation. Football is the ultimate team game. Lack of practice participation can result in not comprehending the coach s offensive and defensive philosophies, and effect other players performance on the playing field. Please communicate with your child s coach if a practice is going to be missed with an excused absence (i.e. medical appointment, sickness etc.) If a player is injured, they should plan on attending practice for teaching purposes. Nutrition and Injury: As coaches, we preach the importance of proper diet and nutrition at practice everyday. It is critical that your child be properly hydrated to avoid dehydration or even heat stroke. As a staff, we are very vigilant about making sure the player get proper breaks during the grueling hot practices. We provide water at all practices and players may bring their own fluids if they wish. Your body is made up of over 70%, which only makes sense to refuel it with water. G2 by Gatorade is also an excellent hydrator, and contains potassium and electrolytes to replenish minerals lost through perspiration and intense exercise. It also has a very low sugar content compared to regular Gatorade, which has a high sugar content and is not recommended unless diluted with water. Food intake should be limited to a light healthy snack after school, such as fruit and sandwich. Try to have your child avoid heavy and fried food, especially right before practice or games. Sugar drinks like soda with should be avoided if possible before practice and games. Football is very physical sport and injuries will occur. If your child is injured during practices or games, they will be required to sit out until evaluated by a medical professional. In some cases, we will require a medical clearance by a medical doctor before a player may continue participation regardless of what a player or parent may say.

7 Marco Eagles Football and Cheerleading General Comments Conduct and Academics: We take conduct on and off the field very seriously. As coaches, we take great pride into developing discipline and character into your children. As a youth sports civic organization, we have no academic criteria for maintain playing eligibility. We have, and will always, work with you on an individual basis when issues arise with both conduct and academics. Our mantra that we constantly instill in your child is to work hard on the field, at home, in the classroom and in the community. Bullying is NOT acceptable, and will be dealt with on an individual basis by the football staff. Parents will be notified if continuing problems continue, and the possibility of dismissal from the program may exist. Weather: Weather this time of the year can interfere and delay, or even cancel practice or games. We take severe weather very seriously and our most important factor is your child s safety. We utilize a lightening detection device that will alert coaches when severe weather is in the area. If severe weather continues, we ask that pick up your child at their practice venue. Communications: We will make every effort to keep you informed throughout the season. However, we realize that information conveyed during practice to your children does not always get back to you in a timely or effective manner. Therefore, our primary mode of communication will be through the website and notifications. If you don t check your frequently, we would highly suggest that you check the football portals at for updates. Updates for Cheerleading will be posted on the Cheerleading portal at

9 Optimist Club of Marco Island Code of Conduct Policy In an effort to promote good sportsmanship, Optimist Club of Marco Island has pledged to enforce a code of conduct that we hope will ensure the physical and emotional well being of all its participants. Our goal is to ensure that all of our participants will thrive in an environment where respect, team play, and camaraderie abound. Optimist Club of Marco Island recognizes the physical and aggressive nature of the sport and, as such, we recognize the need for control. As parents and coaches, it is our responsibility to lead by example. Therefore, all parents and coaches are responsible to read and sign this Code of Conduct and to adhere by it. All participants who are deemed to be in violation of the Code of Conduct are subject to suspension and/or expulsion from the program. Parents who are found to be in violation may be barred from attending future games and/or forfeit their child s right to participate in the program. Such offenses that may warrant suspension or expulsion are as follows: 1) Abuse of a game official, coach, league officer, player, or spectator, whether it is verbal or physical, including but not limited to swearing, violence, obscene gestures, and other aggressive/inappropriate behavior reported to Optimist Club of Marco Island. 2) Gross misconduct, including but not limited to fighting with an opposing player on or about the playing fields. 3) Intentional acts that could result in bodily injury or emotional harm to any person on or about the playing fields.. Coaches will be responsible for routine discipline of minor infractions as they incur within their own teams. Any infraction that cannot be controlled at the team level or that the coach believes warrants, will be referred to the League President or Board of Directors for further action. Coaches are to place the emotional and physical well being of their players ahead of their desire to win. Coaches will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to their players. Swearing and excess physical contact will not be tolerated and complaints of such shall be referred to the League President or Board of Directors for further action. Parents and other spectators are expected to express their enthusiasm positively during games. Any negative expressions (booing, jeering, etc.) will be considered in violation of this code. Furthermore, parents/spectators are not to approach coaches during or immediately after a game with questions or complaints relative to playing time, positions, game strategy, etc. These matters should be taken up in a private conversation at a later (and less emotional) time. Optimist Club of Marco Island hopes to enhance the development of its participants. Our goals are to benefit the children who choose to participate. The above guidelines are set as a reminder that as parents and coaches we are to act as positive examples for our children to follow.
