1 ST. CLAIR MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER From The Boss s Desk November 2017 St. Clair Middle School 4335 Yankee St. Clair, Michigan Main Line Fax Line Attendance Line Website: Facebook: StClairMiddleSchool/ School Hours: 7:36 a.m. - 2:29 p.m. *NOTICE TO ALL GUESTS AT ST. CLAIR MIDDLE SCHOOL Please remember S.C.M.S. is a drug free school zone! NO SMOKING ON SCHOOL GROUNDS PLEASE! Mr. Mike Domagalski, Principal Is it really November already? It seems like yesterday we just ended summer and started the school year, but now we are in the midst of falling leaves, colder weather, and the holiday season. It makes you think about how time really does fly by. With that being said, it s a great time to think about short term goals. In late October, we conducted parent teacher conferences at SCMS. Hopefully that was a time where some short term goals could be established. In sports, you can have the goal of winning a national championship, but you can t do that unless you achieve your goal of winning a game, multiple games, or winning your league, etc Having short term goals in the educational process is the same. In order to achieve our short term goals, or long term goals for that matter, you need to have a plan. We often hear students tell us what their goals are, but they usually have a much harder time telling us HOW they can achieve these goals or WHAT they need to do to achieve these goals. Ultimately, they have great ideas, but don t have a plan on how to get there. No matter how small or large this goal may be, it is our job as educators and parents to guide our kids to help THEM formulate THEIR plan in order to reach their goal. So, talk with your child about setting some short term academic goals between now and Thanksgiving. Then, write down some things that need to get done in order to reach those goals. This is a great way to establish some clear communication between you and your child about what is expected as well as how to meet that expectation. Please continue to check the SCMS webpage for updated articles and information. Although we are still using other platforms for communication like Facebook (fun/ positive messages), (most information), etc to communicate, the webpage is where we are storing everything. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE; save the webpage as a bookmark, an open tab, etc The webpage has an updated calendar of all events, articles and info, pictures, newsletters, announcements, bell schedules, athletic schedules, maps, Skyward info, district calendar, and much more! You can access the SCMS webpage by going to this link: schools/st-clair-middle/ Mr. Brad Robbins, Assistant Principal Mrs. Sandra Rutledge-Plonka, Counselor Mrs. Liz Draghiceanu, Building Secretary Mrs. Carrie DeVries, Attendance Secretary Mrs. Sheila Gilmore, Office Paraprofessional Mrs. Carrie Smith, Office Paraprofessional Last, I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell you all what an honor it is to sit in the seat I sit in everyday at SCMS. The students you send us and the amount of support we get is second to none. There is no doubt in my mind that by continuing to work together, we can guide our kids with #PositivityUnknown2Mankind in order for them to reach their goals. Michael M. Domagalski St. Clair Middle School, Principal

Girls Basketball tryouts (7th & 8th grades) will start in January Boys & Girls Track (7th & 8th grades) will begin April No tryouts. Wrestling Club will begin in January No tryouts. Club fees will apply. Please make your appointment for your child s annual sports physical if they plan to participate in upcoming sports teams. They can t attend any tryout or practice without a current physical. Hey Mom and Dad! Can t make it to your child s game or competition? In an effort to keep parents updated on their child s athletic events, Mr. Robbins will often employ twitter as a live feed. If you you can receive tweets of live scores and play-by-play action. Does this replace the experience of being at the game? No! But we understand games that start at 4:00pm can sometimes be a challenge to attend. Stay informed by following us on twitter. The 8th grade football team recently had a special guest come to one of their practice sessions! Tim Lelito is a graduate of St. Clair High School and currently plays for the Detroit Lions. He is pictured in the back row wearing sun glasses. The boys were thrilled to meet him and get some tips from a hometown professional athlete.
5 OTHER SCHOOL NEWS Page 5 There is no school year like your present school year! Your yearbook celebrates a year full of friends, events, and shared experiences. Visit the Josten s website ( to order your yearbook. JOURNALISM NEWS The journalism class has been busy creating a web page with pictures of the cross country, football, cheer, and volleyball teams. There are also pictures of spirit week and the recent Washington DC trip. Check out the link: HOMEWORK HELP Homework Help is a free after school tutoring program on Monday and Wednesdays from 2:30-3:30pm. Students meet in Mrs. Fredal-Estapa s room #1205 (or room #1214 if needed.) The program is open to all grades. Students may use this time for a quiet place to work, computer access, peer tutoring, or group project time. There will not be class on half days or the day before a school vacation. Parents must make arrangements for students to get home since there may not be an adult at the school after 3:30pm. If a student needs to leave earlier than 3:30pm, he/she needs a note or text from their parent and present it to Mrs. Fredal-Estapa. This is an opportunity for students serious about completing work. If a student does not have work or is not using time wisely, they will be asked to contact a parent and go home.
6 PTO INFORMATION Page 6 November is a month to give thanks. There are so many things we have to be thankful for at Saint Clair Middle School. Personally, I am thankful for the supportive parents who make our PTO a success. This past month MANY parents stepped up to make sure that our school has funding to continue to bless our children with necessities and luxuries that they have become accustomed to over the years. I usually don t like to pin point names, because it truly takes a village to raise our children. But this month it seems appropriate. Thank you to our PTO committee, Deanna Moran (2 nd Year Vice President), Carrie Cypert (1 st Year Treasurer) and Angela Jovanovich (2 nd Year Secretary). I am so thankful that you all stepped into your positions and work so hard. Because of you, it makes it so much easier to maintain my sanity ;) Thank you to Carrie Cypert, Angela Jovanovich, Dawn Hack, Jill Maynard, Deanna Moran, Jill Roe, Denise Stier & Julie Trudell for spending numerous hours stapling paperwork & on soliciting local businesses for sponsorships for our Unfundraiser. A HUGE THANK YOU to all of our sponsors. It will be exciting to see the students anticipation when the prize winners are revealed. 2 Hours on Video Game Truck $100 Amazon Gift Card $100, $50 & $25 Gift Card Top Collecting Students 2Thirty5 Gift Basket (2) Sky Zone Family Fun Packs (2) s St. Clair Embroidery Gift Card Mystery Gift Cards (3) s Horse Back Riding Lessons Limo Ride & Lunch with Mr. Domagalski for 4 Students & 1 Friend (4) s (2) AMC Theater Passes London s Gift Card Sweet Tooth Gift Card St. Clair Coney Island Gift Cards (2) s Sweets in Marysville Gift Cards (2) s Thank you to everyone who takes time to snip and save Box Tops over the year. Thank you to the teachers for supporting our efforts to collect Box Tops. Thank you to Christine Coatney, Carrie Cypert, Rebecca Dombrow & Angie Pizzo who showed up to our Clip-a-thon. Because of the combined efforts of 5 parents over 7 hours, we were able to submit over 4,974 Box Tops, approximately $497.40! Congratulations to Mrs. Beindit s first hour class for coming in 1st place and winning a party of their choice. Mrs. Motte s first hour class came in 2nd and Mrs. Gilbert s first hour came in 3rd place. A simple act of saving a Box Top gives back to so many!!! THANK YOU, Rebecca Dombrow, for returning to help with Box Tops and turning over the reigns to Christine. Last, but absolutely not least, thank you to the heart of our school Mr. Domagalski, Mr. Robbins, Mrs. Rutledge- Plonka, Carrie Devries, Elizabeth Draghiceanu, Sheila Gilmore, Carrie Smith and ALL of the supportive teachers and staff!!! The list of efforts that you extended is endless. THANK YOU!!! Respectfully, Jessica Becker PTO President
