October 2017 Dates to Remember October 4 Picture day October 26 Career Day End of the 1 st quarter October 27 No school for students Math Update We will FINALLY finish our first chapter the first week of October! We will be starting the next unit on Division this month. The students will continue to need their multiplication facts in order to be successful on this unit. Please continue to work with your child on these facts. We then will move onto decimals. The students should be familiar with some of the place values of decimals but we will be discussing the tenths, hundredths, and thousandths. We will also be adding and subtracting decimals this month as well as rounding them. October 31 Fall Harvest Parties Scholastic Book Order A few scholastic book order forms will go home this month. 2 Grades The quarter ends on October 26th. I wanted to remind you to check your child s grades. As I grade, I update their grades on the computer immediately so you should know what their grade is immediately. For those of you who are new to Tipp City we do not print out grades as you have the ability to check online. Veteran s Day Box Tops Please donate your Box Tops to our school by October 26 th. Did you know that there is a box top app that you can download and earn even more for our school? Check it out? Especially if you are like my family and buy a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch every week! You just download the app and scan your receipt and we earn money! We usually have a Box Top competition that we love to compete in! Many items will be coming home regarding our Veteran s Day. If you know a Veteran that would like to speak to our students, or just receive a thank you letter please let us know. Fall Harvest The Harvest party will be on October 31 st from 2:30-3:15. More information will be sent home on this as it gets closer Career Day Career Day will be on October 26 th. This will be a great opportunity for our students to learn about different careers and jobs. Thank you for all of you who volunteered to speak on this day. Conferences Looking ahead, conferences will be November 3 rd and November 15 th from 3:30-6:30. We can also meet during the morning before school. More information will be sent home on this but you will need to call the office (937) ) to schedule these. 2
