8 NFHS SPIRIT RULES CHANGES RULE 1 - DEFINITIONS
9 Rule Change RULE 1 - DEFINITIONS Deletes definitions for downward inversion, front drop, knee/seat/thigh drop, split drop, sponge and swan dive. Adds definitions for braced flip, braced inversion, braced roll, prep level and swing roll down (teddy bear roll down). Revises definition for switch liberty.

11 Rule Change RULE AND ART Spirit participants shall remain outside of the playing area during a 30-second or less time-out during a basketball game. ART Spirit participants shall stand outside the free-throw lane lines extended toward the sidelines throughout a basketball game. Revised language to match basketball rules book on cheer squad location during basketball games.
12 Rule Change RULE AND ART A spotter is required for extended stunts or transitions that stop in an extended position except for the following: Adds the words "extended stunts that stop" to allow for show-and-go and up-and-over stunts without a spotter.
13 Rule Change RULE AND ART An inverted top person may pass through an extended position but must not begin, end, pause or stop in an extended inverted position. Removes the word static and clarifies article 2.
14 Rule Change RULE AND ART Braced inversions in a pyramid that do not flip or roll are permitted provided the following conditions are met: a. The inverted top person shall have at least two bases or a base and a spotter. b. If the inverted top person is released the following conditions shall be met: 1. The skills/stunts before and after the release are permitted. 2. Each bracer is at prep level or below. If in a prep or shoulder stand, the bracer(s) shall have two bases or a base and a spotter. 3. The bracers do not provide primary support for the top person. 4. The top person and base(s) make no more than a ¼ turn around the bracer in a continuous movement. 5. The top person is caught by original base(s). 6. The top person does not land in an inverted position. Reorganizes and clarifies braced inversions in a pyramid.

16 Rule Change RULE AND ART Braced rolls in a pyramid are permitted provided the following conditions are met: a. The inverted top person has at least two bases or a base and a spotter. b. The bracer(s) have two bases or a base and a spotter. Reorganizes and clarifies braced rolls in a pyramid.
17 Rule Change RULE 3-3-5B-D ART Braced flips in a pyramid are permitted provided all the following conditions are met: b. The top person shall have at least three people involved who were the original bases or spotters. c. If the flip ends in a cradle, the bracers may release the top person once he/ she begins to descend and is no longer inverted. d. The top person ends in a non-inverted position.
18 Rule Change RULE 3-3-6A, B AND 4-3-6A, B ART In all other inversions: a. Inversions may release to the following provided there is a spotter: 1. Dismounts with no more than a ½ turn. 2. Loading position with no more than ½ turn. 3. A stunt at prep level or below. b. In inversions where the base of support begins and remains below prep level, at least one person shall be in a position to protect the head/neck of the top person and shall maintain contact with the top person's upper body (waist and above, which may include arms/hands) until the top person is no longer inverted or his/her hands are on the performing surface. The contact shall be sufficient to stabilize/control the top person's position.
19 Rule Change RULE 3-3-6C AND 4-3-6C c. Inversions where the base of support begins at or passes through prep level: 1. Require two bases or a base and a spotter. 2. At least two people on the performing surface must be in a position to protect the head/neck of the top person, one of whom must maintain contact with the top person's upper body (waist and above, which may include arms/hands) until the top person is no longer inverted or his/her hands are on the performing surface. The contact must be sufficient to stabilize/control to top person's position. EXCEPTIONS: 1. A foldover that begins at or below prep level and does not stop in an extended position is allowed. 2. In a single-base suspended roll, there must be continuous hands-to-hands contact between the base and top person. 3. The top person must not go directly to an inverted position on the performing surface from prep level or higher. 4. If caught in a cradle, load or stunt by catchers who are not original bases, the new catchers are in place and are not involved with any other skill when the transition is initiated.

21 Rule Change RULE AND ART In pyramids where one extended stunt braces another extended stunt, the connection must not be hand/arm to foot/leg. ART In pyramids where one extended stunt braces another extended stunt, the connection must not be hand/arm to foot/leg.

23 Rule Change RULE 3-5-5C ART Release transitions are permitted provided all of the following conditions are met throughout the transition: c. Each bracer is at prep level or below. If at prep level, the bracer(s) shall have two bases or a base and a spotter. Removes the requirement for spotter a in a doublebased prep.
24 Rule Change RULE AND ART Non-braced suspended splits that originate from or pass through prep level or above are permitted provided all the following conditions are met: a. At least three bases slow the momentum of the top person. b. The top person has both hands in contact with a base(s) once she reaches the full split position. EXCEPTION: Top person may release one hand to grasp the hand of another base to adjust his/her position. Adds an exception to allow the top to release to grab another base to adjust position.

26 Rule Change RULE AND ART Tumbling while holding props is not permitted except for the following: a. a forward roll, backward roll. b. holding pom(s) during airborne tumbling skills in which the hand(s) are not being used for support.
27 Rule Change RULE ART Stunts/lifts in which base(s) support(s) an extended top person under the foot/feet and stop in an extended position are not permitted in Dance/Drill/Pom. Removes the word static.
28 Rule Change RULE AND ART A skill (e.g., toe touch, twist, etc.) must not be performed to a cradle in dance/drill/pom. ART A twist to the performing surface must not involve more than 1¼ rotations. Prohibits skills to a cradle.
29 Rule Change ART When transitioning from a prop to a stunt/lift, the new bases must be in contact with the top person before he/she leaves the prop. Requires bases to be in contact with the top person when transitioning from a prop.

36 COACHES CERTIFICATIONS Spiritline Coaches Requirements AACCA Certification (Valid for 4 years) First time coaches must be certified in person through the AIA Renewed online at NFHS Spirit Rules Course AND EXAM (Taken every yearacademic year ) Taken through the annual coaches conference Typically the first Saturday in August NFHS Concussions Online Course (One Time)
37 COACHES CERTIFICATION Make sure to update your NFHS profile on the exam site Do not use acronyms for your school entry Online exam MUST be taken no later October 1 st Exam score must be time stamped that date or coach will not meet certification
38 8 TH GRADE TRYOUTS 8 th grade students entering 9 th grade will NOT be permitted to tryout until the first permissible day of football practice Tryouts include but are not limited to Trying out for a team before judges Being evaluated for fall tryouts before judges Selective invitation to summer camp Being fitted for uniforms
39 GLITTER Glitter is not permitted on participant or props at any time No glitter made-up or lotion No loose glitter on bows No loose glitter on signs- must be sealed and laminated
40 JEWELRY With the exception of religious and medical medals, examples of jewelry include, but are not limited to: Necklaces Bracelets Rings All Facial and Body Piercings (Includes Spacers and Fishing Line) Wrist Bands Corsages Hair Ties on Wrists Surgically Implanted Piercings If they aren t born with it, they cannot wear it This rule is consistent with rules concerning jewelry in the NFHS rule books for other athletic activities. It is the coach s responsibility to teach and enforce this rule before it becomes an issue.
41 JEWELRY Medical alert medallions can be worn if taped to the body under the uniform Insulin pumps may be worn if affixed to the body and under the uniform Eye glasses may be worn but should be secured to the face to deter falling off

44 COMPETITION FEES- NO CHANGE Fees for AIA Spiritline State Competitions State Qualifiers-$250 State Competition-$350 All fees are per school (not per team) Once registered for the competition, school names are sent to accounting. The school will be invoiced on the season invoice that ALL sports are on. All PO s will need to be done internally within the schools. Once a team has registered if they don t pay/don t compete because of fees, it is a withdraw violation

46 COMPETITION DIVISIONS Schools are placed into Divisions based on their school enrollment like any other sport Spirit has Division I, II, and III- this is based on All-Girl divisions You can find your division on AIA365- a link off the main AIA webpage COED COED is determined by enrollment and split AFTER ALL REGISTRATIONS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED It has NOTHING to do with your All Girl Division
47 COMPETITION MUSIC Make sure to get a receipt for all music to upload for competition registration Must be upload as proof that editing rights were paid for
48 COMPETITION GAME DAY Non tumbling & Non building category Geared towards those teams that do not normally compete Perform as taught at camp-teams need to set up the crowd Game Day material Fight Song Time Out cheer Offense cheer Defense cheer Called at random Cost is the same as qualifiers
49 LEGAL STUNTS AIA follows NFHS rules Don t get confused and think an AACCA rule that is different than an NFHS rule is legal-it might not be Review stunts that are legal at the HS level. No two high stunts No flipping baskets Remember just because a stunt is legal through NFHS, if your team cannot safely perform it, it should not be done.
50 COMPETITION REGISTRATION Registration is currently open Registration will close September 30 th No late registrations will be accepted Register by team NOT school Register by cheer, pom, or stunt Do not need to wait for other coach to complete To complete a registration ALL fields must be completed If you do not have music, put TBA to submit Teams that qualify for State must re-register

55 COACHES COMPLIANCE LIST This is the list to reference which coaches are in compliance No certificates will be given out Direct AD s and head coaches here Will be posted on the Spirit page of the AIA website Will be updated weekly as NFHS exam scores come in If a coach is not on this list with the NFHS Rules Course, NFHS Rules Exam, and AACCA they will not be permitted in competition as a coach NO EXCEPTIONS
56 COACHES COMPLIANCE If a coach is not compliant, they will not be permitted in the participant area If someone who is not cleared enters a participant area without the tournament directors permission, the TEAM WILL BE DISQUALIFIED A team participant CANNOT act as a coach if a coach is not in compliance. This will result in disqualification If a coach is listed under another school, it is the schools responsibility to notify the tournament director
57 COMPETITION CHANGES There will be a coaches meeting at the start of a division Teams will register separately not as a school Pom teams still follow their cheer teams if COED for a COED pom division No more top 10 to State. Top 40% of teams in a division will go on to State No longer an Overall Award Tumbling in pom is allowed with Aerials and Cartwheels (remember rule 4-8-2) Stunting in pom at a loading level is allowed with proper footwear. (cheer shoes only even if a thigh stand)
58 COMPETITION CHANGES Move to small and large divisions Move to rural and urban for Division III Coed Pom will be determined by a boy on pom not cheer Coed cheer will be split by number of boys not enrollment????
59 NFHS ONLINE EXAM All Spiritline coaches are required to take the NFHS Spirit Rules exam online (This is a 100 question exam about both Cheer and Pom). This exam must be completed by October 1st to be in compliance. Go to Click on Online Exams at right Click on Click Here for NFHS Testing Site next to Arizona Click on Create a New Account (This is a different log in from the site) unless you already have an account from last year, then you will LOG IN. Fill out the top section with your personal information Fill out the State Association section o Choose Arizona as the Primary State Association o Skip Alternate State Associations o Enter SR0916OFF in the State Lic./ID No. section o Enter your high school name in the Local Affiliation section Group up and help each other out! PASSING SCORE IS A 75
