The Guardian Acclaim for The Cherry Orchard Cymeradwyaeth ar gyfer The Cherry Orchard 2017 was another incredible year at Sherman Theatre. We received acclaim for our world premiere plays Killology and The Cherry Orchard, performed Iphigenia in Splott in New York and Berlin and mounted the extraordinary community production Love, Cardiff: City Road Stories. But the best thing about 2017 was welcoming you, our audiences to Sherman Theatre and finding out how much you enjoy our work and what Sherman Theatre means to you. We hope you will join us in 2018 as we begin the next stage of our story. Our packed spring season includes three Sherman Theatre productions exceptional theatre made here in Cardiff. The productions include two modern classics and a major new play by Brad Birch, directed by Rachel O Riordan. Alongside our own productions we are delighted to showcase some of the best touring shows from across the UK. After the success of our production of Gary Owen s radical The Cherry Orchard, it feels as though our journey with you, our audiences, grows in depth and in scope. This spring, we open with Conor McPherson's exquisite play Dublin Carol. Directed by one of the most exciting directors in the UK, Matthew Xia, this piece is imbued with McPherson s dark and beautiful comedy. Then, we co-produce the outside London UK premiere of The Motherf**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis with Tron Theatre, Glasgow. This edgy, elegiac play has a sharp intensity and wit. Deeply funny and moving, this is a major new production of this extraordinary play. Later, we premiere Tremor by Welsh playwright Brad Birch; this vital play adds to the ground-breaking new work we have produced. We also co-produce again with the RWCMD on the NEW project; a new play by Katherine Chandler. Sherman is known for developing Welsh artists, and we are delighted to support the next generation of acting talent. Added to these Sherman productions is a brilliant selection of work that we bring to you because we think you will love it. Our commitment to being the most vital theatre in the country continues.
