1 Monday Thursday 11 AM 9 PM Friday 12 PM 5 PM Saturday 10 AM 3 PM The Library is Closed on Sundays This Library will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day The Library Is Closed on Saturdays in July & August ~ Circulation Desk ext. 210 or 211 Reference Desk ext. 206 Children's Desk ext. 204 Teen and Youth Services ext. 208 Administration ext. 203 This Summer...Read-discover the Past Read-Discovering the Past. I recently took a short trip up north to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I hadn t been there since I was a kid. It s been a while and now just a tad older, I can appreciate and understand things a little better and with more empathy towards those who went through the ordeal. An interesting fact was that today, many of us Americans who were born here would not have passed the immigration test back then. If you go up, take the test. It will make you think. On that trip I took my seven year old grandson, who I thought was bored with it all. However, in the end he remembered everything, even how much a hot dog cost. I m also reading Moby Dick again. In high school we just read a few chapters. What a chore. Yet, as I read it now, I m finding it fascinating. Still, I don t think I m up to reading War and Peace. But that s the great thing about summers. It gives us an opportunity to reexplore our past with our families and perhaps set out for new adventures on our own. If you went on class trip as a child, you were probably rushed along and did not grasp the whole of it. So why not go again now and bring a youngster. Along your travels, don t forget to stop by the library for some background information on where you are going. You might also want to pick up some back seat or hotel room reading material. And don t forget to download an e-book. I frequently say that a hardback book never loses power. But the neighborhood surely lost power during the recent storm. Fortunately my Kindle had enough of a charge to make it through the night. Neighborhood kids called the night a rough time. I told them when I was a kid, light bulbs weren t invented. We flew kites with keys attached. We put the electrified keys in a can and called them Kan-dles. That s what I call re-discovering the past.
