Just Read It, Rate It, Win It! All you have to do is read any book of your choice, fill out an entry form with your name and the name of the book, and rate it on a five-star system. Your entry form will go into a drawing for weekly prizes - $10 gift certificates from local businesses such as the Ivy League, the CoffeePot, etc, he Program runs from June 15th to August 3rd T when three grand prizes will be awarded - first prize is the Sweetheart Package at the Inn at Versailles which consists of an overnight stay with dinner & amenities; second prize will be DCCA tickets to Marty Stuart in November; and third prize is a $50 gift certificate to the Bistro. YA Summer Reading - Own the Night by Reuben Kennett & Rhonda Peeples eens have a great summer in store! To participate in Summer Reading, just do T a short questionnaire then fill out tickets for every 30 minutes you read. These tickets will be drawn for prizes throughout the program - books, bookmarks, bookbags, bracelet flashdrives, a kindle, and more! een oriented activities on a weekly rotation make up T Teen Tuesdays: First Tuesday - Teen writing & drawing club. Second Tuesday - Crafts such as perler beads, duct tape origami, and more. Third Tuesday - Board games, card games, video games. Fourth Tuesday - Teens can watch several episodes of anime cartoons. A night-time themed Photography Contest will be held where teens have an opportunity to capture and vote for their favorite photos. Watch for more details soon! 2 Crochet Classes hanks to Deb Cameron, the Library is now offering a variety of interesting classes and T activities for adults! For instance on April 20 & 27th Jessica Gonzales taught beginner s crochet - with help from her sister Stephanie St.Myers who is also on the Library staff. Over twenty women & girls showed up each time and they all went home with a new skill and a useful article they had made themselves. Jessica began crocheting ten years ago when she and husband Justin began their family. She says her sister got her started making baby blankets and hats. It was a great creative outlet for a stay-at-home Mom that eventually led to a business. Today Jessica and her other sister Tamera McNulty own Beanies & Booshkas A Boutique for Little Ones. he sisters first got the idea for a business T when they displayed and sold their goods at the EUM Church Bazaar last November. Jessica produces the crocheted items all kinds of hats and ipad, Nook, Kindle & cell phone covers and Tamera sews the booshkas or headscarves. Now everything is available at the 3rd Street Market as well as through Facebook. Customers can browse on com/beaniesbooshkas or place special orders by contacting the sisters at Each item is very original, reasonably priced, and makes a great gift! For the month of April Beanies & Booshkas also had a small display at the Library. Jessica is seen left with daughter Eva wearing one of her hats! Friends of the Library NOTES The Friends invite everyone to their June meeting on Thursday the 28th at 7:00! As always it s held in the third floor meeting room at the Library. Get involved in making decisions and plans which benefit the Library - and have fun doing it! The Friends are an organization whose members focus public attention on facilities and needs to promote library-sponsored activities and services which support development - such as the Summer Reading Program! Membership is open to all interested individuals: Adults $5.00 per year/students $2.50 per year

3 Taekwondo Demo! Daniel Wittler explains" I don't train to fight I train to not have to fight. Daniel is a Martial Arts teacher who will demonstrate his skills and those of his students on June 1st from 5:00 to 6:00 at the Library's First Friday event. Come and enjoy watching the art and choreography of self-defense, forms & kicks, and the team dragon demo! Daniel & his wife Jackie are the owners & operators of Wittler's Black Belt Academy which is now situated at 325 Martin Street but will soon move to 638-A Wagner Avenue where they will have two gyms. We've outgrown our present location, states Daniel. We expanded quickly because we emphasize tradition, history, and art form in a family, Christian-based environment. Daniel was first inspired by his idol Bruce Lee to start classes in August 1995 in Georgia. He holds a First Dan Black Belt in Sport Taekwondo and a Second Dan in Traditional Taekwondo. He also teaches Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Kung Fu. He strongly states he is not associated with the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) or UFC (Ultimate Fighting Champions) organizations. They've perverted martial arts and made it into a blood sport. True martial arts prevent violence. I've never been in a fight in my life. he academy is also an official chapter of the anti-bullying alliance Be A Star which T was co-founded by the Creative Coalition and the WWE (World Wrestling Enterprises). On July 16th Daniel will give a talk Don't Be a Bully; Be a Friend about bullying and self esteem. He tries to help kids to do what he did. Martial Arts turned my life around. I've had teachers who taught me about life. One was like a father to me. he Academy accepts students from T ages 4 and up (4 to 6 year olds are called Lil Dragons ) and from any fitness level. We do not make students conform to our style. We conform the style to them. All I insist on is good form. One gentleman started at age 65 and became a fourth degree black belt at age 79. I also encourage students to participate in the area tournaments. We go to 8-10 a year. Daniel is registered with the Global Black Belt Society, Golden Dragon Martial Arts, the Tang Shou Society, Karate for Christ, and many other organizations. 6 John Vehre Celebrates 30th! Director John Vehre celebrated his 30th anniversary as a professional librarian on May 17th with a party at El Camino. He received a beautiful cut-glass engraved commemorative and a big chocolate cake from the staff! Interesting conversation centered around all the many changes in libraries since 1982, especially in technology. John came to Greenville in 1991 and one of his first tasks was to automate the system by entering all records onto the computer. Jenny Sullivan also celebrated her birthday in true Mexican style!
