1 Chosun Academy Newsletter June 14th, 2013 Issue 16, Volume 2 It s June and that means FATHER S DAY IS HERE! Father s Day is considered a modern holiday celebration. It was originated just after the 19th century as a contribution to fathers and father figures. There are many different ways to celebrate fathers. Some people give or send cards to their fathers, while some arrange special events. Common gifts include clothing, sports items, household tools, electronic gadgets and more. From large parties to simple greetings, anything can be done in honor of your father. Father s Day is celebrated for not only fathers, but stepfathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers and father in-laws. This day is rapidly approaching, falling on the 3rd Sunday of June. Plan something great for your father! This is an essential festival dedicated to honoring the most respectable member of your family. A father is important to a family unit. Children depend greatly on their fathers for many reasons. For girls, a father is the man they adore while for sons, a father is the man they aspire to be. Traditionally, a father s role is to guide and provide for his family while a mother nurtures. However, in this day and age, a father also nurtures his family. This cultural change has strengthened the fatherchild relationship immensely. Show your gratitude and acknowledge the contributions of your father. Plan in advance and surprise him with something unique this year!

2 Check Out the New Mural! The Chosun Ones for June 2013 Student of the Month: Kayde Thiel! Student of the Month: Benjamin Lyons! The new mural was unveiled at the belt ceremony on April 5th and WOW is it fantastic! A special thanks to Audra Magermans-Cress and her crew on the creation of a truly exceptional addition to Chosun Black Belt Academy! Congratulations to Kayde and Benjamin! 3 Chosun SUMMER CAMP 2013 WEAPONS TRAINING! Students at Summer Camp will be learning how to use a special weapon (which will remain secret for now)! SPECIAL TRAINING We will be spending time doing traditional and creative forms, sparring and special self-defense classes! Friday July 19th - 21st We are now accepting names for a waiting list, as camp has filled for the year! SWIMMING On Saturday, students will be heading to the park for a cookout, as well as an afternoon in the pool! [3]

4 DON T FORGET! We will be marching in the Franklin 4th of July parade, so be sure to set some time aside that day to participate! All students are encouraged to be there and you are awarded 10 tickets for the raffle at the August 10th picnic! Be sure to wear your white uniform and a comfortable pair of shoes and be sure to bring some water - the past few years have been HOT, HOT, HOT! Afterwards, stick around to see the first performance for the year of our Demo Team! See you there!
