2 Team Managers are an integral part of Fargo Youth Hockey Association (FYHA) The team manager (TM) is the communication link between coordinators, coaches, parents, and the FYHA Board of Directors. Team managing is a great way to get to know parents and players within the organization. The team website is an effective way to stay in contact and communicate with your team. As a TM, you will be given administrative access to edit and develop your team webpage. The link to Fargo Youth Hockey Association (FYHA) website is Welcome to Team Management FYHA thanks you for your time and effort! Communication 24-hour Rule: Parents may not directly approach a coach with a complaint without first waiting 24 hours from the time of incident. This allows a cooling off period and time in which the complaint may resolve in this period of time. Parents who believe they have a valid hockey-related concern (on-ice or team related) should bring that concern to the Level Coordinator at their player s level. Refer to Parent Code of Conduct which outlines general expectations. Respect the game by showing respect for players, officials, fans, and coaches. Every team has a mailbox located in the H. A. Thompson and Sons Arena lobby. Check this mailbox often, as it is where team picture forms, official roster information, etc. will be distributed. Any exchange of money or need for a secure location is available behind the Teamsters desk area (please see Arena Manager). Parent Meeting- once your team is formed, a meeting with parents and coaches should promptly be scheduled. The meeting time is for information exchange as well as expectations/goals for the season reviewed. Forms/Paperwork Parent/Guardian and Player Code of Conduct forms are available on the FYHA Team Manager Resources page. These were part of the registration process when you registered your player, however they may be a useful reminder during the season as well. Team Contact Roster - this is helpful to gather phone numbers, , etc. for families so that they can be contacted regarding last minute schedule changes, communication when traveling out of town, etc. Do not post these on the team page since they include personal information. Official Player Roster- Applies to all levels. Player rosters need to be completed after team selection. FYHA administration will obtain verified team rosters and provide to each team. The roster will be stamped by the State Registrar. Please check your mailbox and for your official stamped roster. Also, check the roster for accuracy, especially noting that all birthdates are correct. FYHA Compliance Process Available on the Team Manager Resources page and outlines the compliance process and how to submit a compliance report.

3 Scheduling Both practice and game schedules can change without advance notice. Please remind parents to check the FYHA calendar often (daily, if possible). The team web page is also a good place to post the weekly calendar, news for your team and upcoming tournament/hotel information. Any changes/additions/cancellations in schedules are typically handled by the FYHA Central Scheduler and Level Directors. Weather Cancellation Policy Check for weather-related cancellations. Each Level Director makes the decision about game cancellations. Coaches and Team Managers do not have the discretion to cancel games. FYHA coaches do have the authority to cancel practices at their discretion. Team managers should communicate any schedule changes to their team once they are made aware of those decisions. The Fargo Park District determines whether or not an event will be cancelled at a Park District Arena (Southwest Arena, Coliseum, and South Sports Arena). Parents should be reminded to make sure the arena is open and their player is able to get into the arena before leaving them there (this pertains to early morning practice and inclement weather, in particular). Volunteers A team photo volunteer is helpful to distribute packets and assist on picture day. A team fundraising coordinator is recommended. This person will distribute and collect all materials for fundraising and donation opportunities during the season. Raffle Tickets Stick It to Cancer Fundraiser Giving Hearts Day Hockey Night in Fargo A team social coordinator is also an option to help organize team outings, team meals, and socials as decided upon by each individual team. Equipment USA Hockey recommends each player provide, and use, his or her own individual water bottle for health reasons. Game socks to match jerseys or be creative. This is a coach s decision.

4 Local Tournaments Termite/Mite/8U Jamboree This is a fun end of season jamboree where kids have an opportunity to showcase what they have learned all season. Fun to invite the whole family to cheer on your Termite/Mite/8U aged kiddo. Squirt International Squirt International is an exciting, memorable event for players and fans. Set aside that weekend for hockey-all hockey-and prepare for a fantastic event. Each level will compete in their designated weekend. Thursday night will be the Squirt Olympics and Pin Trading. FYHA will get pin ordering information out to the teams. Pin trading is a big part of the event. Plan early and advise parents to order pins. Also, a pin book is a good idea to help keep pins organized. Players have also used the following for their pins: felt pieces arranged in a 3-ring binder, hockey hats, hockey socks, homemade pin books as well as those purchased in stores or online. Girls International Tournament Largest girls tournament with exciting events occurring all hockey weekend. Volunteers needed to keep things running smoothly. FYHA will get pin ordering information out to the teams. Pin trading is a big part of the event. Plan early and advise parents to order pins. Woodchipper Classic PeeWee and Bantam Levels - Competitive hockey in the FM area. This tournament boosts teams from all over the Midwest. To-Do List for Tournaments Fire-up ideas for tournament time - treat bags, door-signs, posters, banners, signs for the spectators. Treat bag ideas include hockey pucks personalized/painted with player s number, name, etc., skate laces, stick wax, hockey stick pencils, headbands, granola bars, gum, Gatorade, etc. Social Event and awards ceremony. Most of the kids & parents really like to make it a weekend of high energy and fun. The Association gives participation medals, but your team could also order trophies for the end of the season. This is an extra cost for each parent to pay for. If you are doing trophies, make sure you order at least 6 weeks in advance. Socials/Gifts/Fun Ideas Start a tradition - Santa hats, outdoor skating, Family vs. Player game, bowling, volunteer with younger age groups practice or games, attend Force games or higher age level games as a team. Meet and Greet - have a get-together/social early in the season for family members and players.

5 Pasta Feeds - at a restaurant or player s home. These are good to do before a tournament. out a sign-up list and ask for volunteers to bring food, drink or assist with serving the meal. Coaches gifts (optional) Start a philanthropy activity as a team event. Ring the Salvation Army Bell, donate your time at the Food Pantry, etc. Buy a table as a group for Fargo Hockey Night. Again, FYHA thanks you for taking on this very special team role.
