1 Academy Newsletter June 13th, 2012 Issue 5, Volume 1 AMBITION: Our Word of the Week Definition: 1A: An eager desire for social standing, fame, or power. 1B: Desire to achieve a particular goal: aspiration. 2: The particular goal of one s desires. Example: Rashid practices hard because it is his ambition to make the Taekwondo Olympic team! Which activity do you think gave us ambition? A. Trying out for a sports team. B. Waiting for a ship to sail. C. Running for elected office. D. learning to drive a car. Did you vote for C? Candidates in ancient Rome had to spend a lot of time going around the city urging the citizens to vote for them. The Latin word for this effort was ambitio, meaning to go around. Since this ambition is caused by a desire for honor or power, the word eventually came to mean the desire for honor or power. 2 ANOTHER WIN! Academy Student of the Month: Teodora Drazic The One for May 2012 Teodora Drazic is a ten year old green stripe. Her favorite kick is the stepside kick and her favorite martial artist is Master Peterson! Her favorite actress is Angelina Jolie and her favorite movie is The Parent Trap. She loves to watch the Big Bang Theory on TV and enjoys listening to her favorite musician, Brad Paisley. Besides TKD, Teodora loves tennis! Her favorite subject in school is math and if she could, she would actually ask for longer math time at school! Congratulations to the Softball team on another victory - they re having a great season this year! Congratulations Teodora! Keep up the good work! PLEASE REMEMBER - Summer is here and it s fun to go barefoot, but going barefoot through the parking lot before coming into the dojang is a BAD idea. Your feet will get dirty and all that nasty stuff from the street will get on the mat! So PLEASE wear shoes when coming IN and OUT of the dojang! [2]
