Villa Park Cheer Code of Conduct and Policies GOALS: To support Villa Park High School, promote team spirit through self, school and community. PURPOSE: S: Spirited - In school and community P: Prepared By being on time A: Achieve Your best effort R: Respect - Of Self, Administration and peers T: Trustworthy Reliable and honest A: Adaptive Handle change and diversity N: Noble High intellect or morals CHEER TEAM CONTRACT POLICIES & EXPECTATIONS Cheer Program Rules & Regulations: The following standards of eligibility and conduct shall apply to ALL CHEER TEAM MEMBERS during their year(s) of service at Villa Park High School. It should be noted that a Cheerleader s term would be for a full year, beginning immediately upon election to the team through June of the following year. You represent Villa Park High School and its entirety through your cheer uniform and other identifiable VP clothing, actions, in print on or off the campus and social media. You are a representative of Villa Park High School, and you must follow the Cheer Program Code of Ethics, Rules and Regulations. Attendance One person being absent affects the ENTIRE team. It is important not to inconvenience the practice time of the entire team by being absent. All students must attend all 4 days of try-outs. All students will attend cheer camp on June 19-22, All students will attend practices games, events and competitions. Failure to do so may result in a grade drop and/or removal from squad or a participation in a routine You are allowed no more than 3 excused absences per season. If you have to miss practice, game or event, a coach MUST BE NOTIFIED in writing ONE week in advance. The only excuse from a cheer activity is illness, a serious family issue, or a school-required, grade based obligation during the normal school day; this does not include elective tutoring, community service, or last minutes school projects/homework or extra credit opportunities. There must be no conflicts with jobs, personal activities, appointments (nail, doctor, dentist, senior pictures, etc.). During the school year, participation includes being enrolled in a graded class. Class expectations and grading procedures will be outlined separately. You may not participate in any other sports or dance teams. You may be on an All Star team as long as you are not on a VPHS competition team and it does not conflict with VPHS cheer practice, or games, or other cheer activities. Any absence or tardy, even excused, may result in a cheerleader being taken out of a routine. 2

Attendance at fundraising group events are MANDATORY. Some of these events may fall on the weekend, therefore plan accordingly. Failure to attend such events will affect class grade. Uniform All students must keep their uniforms neat and clean at all times. They will wear the assigned uniform, or they will not participate in games or performance. No uniforms may be loaned to friends at any time. All team members must be dressed alike during games, performances, game days and other cheer events. The assigned dress-out list for school days, practices and events must be followed. No jewelry may be worn when practicing or in uniform. This includes tongue and belly piercings including clear plugs. Visible tattoos are not allowed and must be covered up prior to performing or practicing. Nails must be kept short for stunting and tumbling purposes. You should not be able to see your nails over your fingertips if you are looking at your palm. If nail polish is worn, it must be clear, pale pink, nude or a French tip. Shoes should be clean at all times. No other shoes may be worn with the uniform (i.e. Flip flops, Vans, Ugg boots, etc.) Socks must be white. Makeup should be natural and worn for games. Coaches may specify more dramatic makeup for competition. Hairstyle and hair color must appear natural. Extreme deviation of hairstyle or color is not permitted and a cheerleader may be benched for inappropriate hair. In the event a cheerleader loses a piece of the uniform/practice wear they are responsible for purchasing the replacement item. Grading All students will maintain a C (2.0) grade point average. A 2.5 or higher GPA is preferred. An F grade is not a good representation of a VPHS Cheerleader. A GPA of lower than 2.0 will result in suspension from the team and possible removal from the team if the grade is not brought up per the Advisor and/or Administration. Competition Competition practice is during regular practice times. Later and/or additional practices may be called during competition season but will not interfere with school holidays. If you commit to a competition team, you are committing to paying the additional fees involved with competition by the due date. Coaches will determine the numbers of members competing at any given time. If there are 20 on the squad, it does not mean all 20 will compete at every competition on a given squad. The coaches will determine what is in the best interest of the team, and that will take priority over the best interest of the individual. 3

Conduct All students will set a good example on campus and in the classroom, maintaining good citizenship marks. Being part of the cheer team, each member will accept the fact that his/her actions are more prominent than those not associated with such an activity. Students must agree not to behave in any manner (in public, or on social media included but not limited to Ask.fm/Instagram/Snapchat/Twitter pictures on the Internet, etc.), which brings dishonor or shame to the school or community. Disrespect for fellow members, Captains, Coaches, Faculty Members, or Game Officials will not be tolerated. This includes talking back, eye rolling, complaining or an overall poor attitude. Public display of affection is not appropriate (especially in uniform or in any way identifiable as a VPHS Cheerleader) at games, at school or outside of school and will not be tolerated. Use or possession of tobacco, alcohol or other dangerous drugs will not be tolerated AT ANY TIME. Use or possession will result in suspension and removal from the team immediately. Cell phones and/or other electronic devices are not allowed during practices or games without permission. A Member will be removed from the Team for any behavior unbecoming to the Squad or the School without monetary reimbursement. This includes all actions listed in the VP Parent/Student Handbook. If a Cheerleader is removed from the Team, no refund will be given for auxiliary expenses. Any disciplinary actions will be made by the Advisor or School Administrator but may be made upon the recommendation of the Coaches, Captains or Pep Commissioner. A Cheerleader may be removed from the squad at any time by Administration. Games All assigned games are mandatory in their entirety. All Cheerleaders must know all the cheers and routines for the game. All Cheerleaders will be required to pass a cheer test prior to performing at the first athletic event of the season to demonstrate knowledge of required material. There is no gum chewing or eating during games. Eating is only allowed during allotted times such as team breaks. Cheerleaders in uniform seated in the audience watching another cheerleading squad perform should be seated together, rather than mingling with the audience. Cheerleaders will stand and participate in a respectful manner during the National Anthem at the beginning of every sporting event. Cheerleaders will sit and watch the half time show and are not allowed to mingle with the audience. Safety is the first priority. Cheerleaders are not released to practice stunts, pyramids or gymnastics without the direct supervision of the Coach, Advisor or a designated VP School Official. Cheerleaders are not permitted to participate in inappropriate cheers or chants by any members of the audience. 4

Coaches Code of Conduct Observe cheerleaders during events and practices to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and provide proper supervision during practices and events. Follow established procedures in the event of an emergency. Act as a team representative and promote cheerleading by communicating with VPHS Cheer Advisor and administration as needed. Attend games, where Cheerleaders are performing and participate in special activities to include Booster meetings, banquets and assemblies. Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Instruct Cheerleaders regarding the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport including participating in the Pledge of Allegiance at all activities. Assess skills and assign team positions. Parents/Guardians Code of Conduct We understand the decision of the judges is final and NOT negotiable after tryouts. We understand there is the potential for injuries in Cheer and we agree to provide the necessary insurance policy and a copy of the insurance card. We understand our son/daughter represents VPHS and its entirety and will encourage them to uphold the VPHS Cheer Program Rules and Regulations or disciplinary action may be taken against them. We understand that Coaches and the Advisor reserve the right to determine the size of the squads. Some students may be designated as alternates. Alternates will be required to maintain their skills, attend all practices, games, competitions and pay all competition fees. We understand there are several major fundraisers and we encouraged to participate. We understand there is also an option to participate in a buy-out instead of participating in the fundraisers. o A buy-out for an individual means to buy-out the amount of said fundraisers by a predetermined amount set at the beginning of the cheer season (approximately May of the current year). We also understand that further fundraisers will be added if necessary and participation is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED even if you are current in your donations. Communication of upcoming fundraisers will be done through parent meetings, s, orally to members at practice and listed on the cheer calendar. We understand competition expenses must be paid in full before the squads can be registered for upcoming competitions and are IN ADDITION to program contributions/donations. If you commit to a competition team, you are committing to paying the additional fees involved with competition by the due date. We will volunteer hours at various fundraisers and cheer events to help lower our cheer fees if financial assistance is requested. If you are in need of financial assistance, please see any Board Member to fill out an application. Parents shall not confront or seek a conference with coaches during or after games, practices, competitions, or other cheer related event. Conferences with the coach to discuss or critique their game preparation, coaching strategy or the status of other player will not be held. 5

The ways to communicate parental concerns to the Advisor or Coach include , written notes or a scheduled meeting. We understand may be removed from a VPHS cheer event if inappropriate or unprofessional behavior is exhibited. Executive/Booster Board Code of Conduct Parents or guardians, who have a student in the VP Cheer Program and who support the objectives of the organization are active members in the Booster Club. We understand as members of the VP Booster Club we represent VPHS Cheer and its entirety. We understand we will maintain a positive and respectful attitude towards all constituents in all athletic or booster events. We will emphasize the team commitment in addition to a commitment to sportsmanship, ethical conduct and fair play and their lifetime impact on all participants. We will demonstrate teamwork and commitment to the Booster Club through our actions in working with fellow volunteers. We understand any elected officer, representative or any committee members are nonpaid volunteers. No salary or compensation for services will be paid. We will refrain from making disparaging remarks to officials, coaches, participants or spectators. Exemplify self-control and accept adverse conditions or decisions without public display of emotions or comments. We will work within the framework and purpose of the Booster Club as defined in the Bylaws and will work with the fellow members to reach decisions and take actions that are mutually beneficial for the Cheer program, parents and student-athletes. We understand the President will oversee all social media postings pertaining the to VP Cheer Program. We understand if a volunteer violates the VPHS Pep Booster Board Code of Conduct, the Booster Board will provide verbal notification to the volunteer that their behavior is not in keeping with the Code of Conduct nor the Mission or Objectives of the VPHS Pep Booster Board. 6

* Parent's Statement: I understand the selection process, and I am fully aware that if my son/daughter is selected to join the Villa Park Cheer squad for the year there will be responsibilities and commitments involved. I am aware that there will be certain activities, events, and/or projects related to being a part of the VP Cheer Program, which may require my child to spend extra time before and/or after school and on weekends to fulfill those obligations. There will be mandatory events that a VP Cheerleader must attend, and missing them will affect my child's grade in the Cheer. My child is aware that his/her behavior must be appropriate at all times on campus, in cyber space, and in our community; or he/she may be placed on probation and/or removed from the squad. I acknowledge and will encourage my child to abide by the Villa Park Cheer Code of Conduct. I also acknowledge receipt of the VP Cheer Requested Donation Schedule. Understanding all of this, I give consent for my child to apply for a position on the VP Cheer Squad. The administration has the right to remove a student during the process or during the year if deemed necessary. Students must maintain the entrance requirements throughout the school year or they may be removed from the class. 8 Villa Park School Pep Booster Club Dear Parents, The Booster Club is an association of the parents of cheerleaders dedicated to the support of the Villa Park High School Cheer Program. In order for the program to participate in competitions, cheer camp, provide music, choreography, hire coaches and provide miscellaneous items such as sound boxes, end of the year banquet, homecoming items, etc., a great deal of money must be raised/donated. The first order of business is to pay coaches, camp and program expenses. Therefore, we are requesting the following suggested donations, shown on pages 9-11 of this document be made at the requested time frame. Please note: Uniforms are additional costs that are paid directly to the Uniform Company by the parent/guardian of the cheerleader. The suggested donations cover only a portion of the total needed to run a program at our level. In addition to these donations, the program still needs to raise further funds to cover the cost of outside choreography consultants for the routines, competitions, scholarships, miscellaneous equipment, banquets, administrative costs, and other numerous expenses during the year. ALL SQUAD MEMBER participation (100%) is necessary for all group fundraisers for the success of Cheer Program as this benefits not only you but the team as well. Booster Club meetings are held 9 10 times a year on a monthly basis. New officers will be selected for next year s Booster Club by the Nominating Committee and will be presented at the first booster club meeting of the season in May. At this time we will be forming committees; the more people who volunteer to help, the easier it is to raise the funds we need. Everyone will need to volunteer in a variety of areas to make this a successful program. This is a wonderful program and TOGETHER we can have another successful season! If there are any questions, please feel free to contact VPHS Cheer Board President 8

Dear, I have recently been chosen as a member of the Villa Park cheerleading team and the upcoming season is going to be our best yet! The VP cheerleaders are looking forward to an exciting and rewarding year supporting Spartan Athletics, serving as ambassadors of our community and Villa Park High School, and striving to achieve our own competitive goals. Last year, Varsity Coed and All Girl cheer teams placed 1 st at the USA Spirit Competition and they earned TWO NATIONAL TITLES!!! Uniforms, camp, coaching fees, equipment, transportation, travel costs and competition registration are just a few of the expenses associated with being a cheerleader at Villa Park High School. I am seeking financial assistance through sponsorship from local businesses and/or family and friends to help me achieve my cheerleading goals. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated; no dollar amount is too small. Donation checks can be made out to VPHS Pep Boosters (a 501 (c) (3) corporation) and are tax deductible (Tax ID ). If you would like to make a donation, please mail a check (no cash) to the address below. Thank you for your continuing support!
