1 Desert Mountain Pom Program Head Coach: Brie Dragonetti JV Coach: Ashley Brack Please read the following packet very carefully Dear Parent or Guardian and Future DMHS Pommie, Thank you for your interest in the Desert Mountain Pom Program. Membership on the Desert Mountain Pom team will require an extensive amount of time from the participants. Jobs, family obligations and social activities may often need to be rescheduled to provide for the responsibilities and obligations connected to this organization. There will also be the unavoidable financial commitment that goes along with participating as an athlete on the team. Please take time to read through the attached pages and discuss them with your family. If parents grant permission for their child to participate in the tryouts, please sign the last page of the contract and the parent consent page. In addition to the last page of this contract, parent consent page and scheduled trips page, each interested pom member is required to complete and turn in the Desert Mountain pom program questioner, a recent head shot and provide proper athletic clearance through Desert Mountain High School. You will not be allowed to tryout unless all documents are turned in on time and you have the proper athletic clearance from the school. All of this is due the first day of tryouts. Tryouts will be held at Desert Mountain High School the week of April 18-21, A clinic will be held in the aux gym and run from 3:45pm-5:45pm on April The official tryout for current DMHS students will be April 21 st starting at 3:45 pm. Incoming freshmen are welcome to attend the clinics April 18 th -20 th for a $30 fee. If an incoming freshman would like to attend camp with our team we would like for them to also attend on April 21 st so we can do camp placements. Please refer to the incoming freshmen letter on the next page if this applies to you. If you have any questions please contact Coach Brie Dragonetti at briedragonetti@yahoo.com P. 1

2 Dear Incoming Desert Mountain Freshman, We are very excited that you are interested in becoming a member of the Desert Mountain Pom Program. At this time, AIA has created a rule stating that incoming freshmen are not allowed to become a member of a spiritline team until the first official football practice day. This is due to insurance requirements and other factors AIA feels support this decision. We have decided at Desert Mountain to allow freshmen to attend the pom tryouts April as a clinic. A $30.00 fee (checks written to DMHS) will be required of those who are currently not in high school. The fee along with the freshman parent consent page (p.18) will be due Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the start of the clinic. When the teams are announced on April 21 st, we will be offering some freshmen invitations to attend camp in July with us. Please be aware of the following if being offered a letter to attend camp with us. - Being offered a letter does not guarantee you a spot on the team and you will be required to tryout for a spot on the team once school is in session and football has started their practices. - You will be required to buy the camp clothing if attending camp. - You will be required to pay for camp. - The official freshmen tryout dates will be August 8 th -10th (as long as this is when football can start). - If choosing to tryout in August you will be required to complete the team questioner, signed contract pages, parent page and vacation page. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this process! We hope to see you at our clinic on April 18 th -21 st. Coach Brie Dragonetti and Coach Ashley Brack briedragonetti@yahoo.com P. 2

It is important to understand that just because you get selected to compete it does not mean your spot is secure. If you are not keeping up with the routine and the technical elements associated with the routine you will be pulled. It is imperative to understand that just because someone competed with varsity the previous year, it does not guarantee them a spot on varsity or competition team the following year. Participants are required to audition every year for a spot on the team. P. 3

10 Pom Program Payments For the pom season, all required pom payments will be paid to either the DMHS Bookstore or directly to the vendor. We have decided to collect funds this way to eliminate to hassle of cutting more than one check for each team expense. This also allows families to have the option to use a credit card for payments. If making one of the DMHS Pom teams, you will receive an with a payment plan listing when payments are due and what the payment is for. Some payments will be put into the pom club account, some will go into the pom tax credit account and others will go directly to vendors. We will specify where each payment needs to go. Money that is paid into the pom club account will go towards poms, music, choreography, camp, etc. Money that is put into tax credit will go towards competition fees, travel fees, nationals fees, etc. Please remember that you are allowed to write off $400 worth of tax credit payments if you are filing joint. You are allowed to write off $200 if you file separately. We will go over the $400 in tax credit as all of competition fees, travel and nationals will exceed this amount. Please understand that we can put as much money into the tax credit account as we wish, but you will only be able to write off either $200 or $400. If planning to write off any money put in tax credit you must complete the SUSD tax credit form when submitting the payment. Booster Club Expectations According to the SUSD Booster Club Handbook a booster group consists of a group of parents and/or community members who are organized to support a school-sponsored sport, activity, class or program. Booster Clubs support student groups, activities, or programs Booster Club does not have the authority to decide the activities or trips in which the student group will participate. The SUSD Booster Club Handbook also notes that The Booster Club may track funds for each student for accounting purposes only. Fundraising is an opportunity to generate revenue for the Booster Club as a group and is not intended for individuals. Therefore, revenues should be recorded in a group account from which all members or students have the opportunity to benefit equally. One member or student should not receive a larger benefit from fundraising than another. In addition, if a member or student chooses not to participate in the fundraiser, that person still receives an equal benefit from the revenues generated. P. 10

11 Program Expectations COMMUNICATION This is a competition squad and communication on this squad is 100% coach to student. Primary communication will be conducted via with the students and the parents. Students are responsible for keeping track of dates, practices, performances, and costuming. Also, the student is responsible for informing the coach of any dates she may be absent and for checking them against performance schedules. It is important for all team members to be at every practice and event. You are not allowed to attend vacations that are scheduled during practice/performance days. - One unexcused absence will result in being benched for the next performance. - Three unexcused absences will result in the pommie being put on an attendance contract. - If violating an attendance contact you will be removed from the program. - If you are kind of sick or not feeling well you are still expected to be at practice. You may sit and watch if you can t participate. Exceptions are strep throat before 24 hours of antibiotics, a high fever, or the stomach flu. - It is not acceptable if you skip practice, but attend the rest of the school day. If you miss one you miss the other. This also goes the other way around. You cannot attend practice and then skip school. - If a pommie misses practice two weeks prior to competition they will be pulled. The week of a competition is crucial and all members must be present. - All doctor and dentist appointments need to be scheduled for after school. - Doctors notes are required if missing practice or coming late to practice. P. 14
