1 British Theatre Dance Association PREPARATORY CLASSICAL BALLET This programme of study is designed as a beginning to the development of Classical Ballet Technique. By following this foundation programme of study, pupils begin to develop the basic classical technique which will give them a smooth transition into the General Graded Examinations. Each exercise is written in detail giving both timing and direction. At this level, the work should be demonstrated with correct stance, placement and alignment and a developing sense of musicality. Teachers can commence at whatever level they feel appropriate for their pupil, however the lower grades are an ideal stepping stone onto the General Graded Examinations and it is strongly recommended that these are studied first.

2 DRESS CODE Smart presentation is important to all candidates entering BTDA examinations; the following dress code should be applied for Classical Ballet examinations: BTDA does not advocate colour or style of examination dress but it expects candidates to have uniformity throughout the school. No jewellery, nail polish or make up is to be worn for examinations included in this programme of study. It is recommended that fringes are taken back and away from the face. CLASSICAL GROOMING IS REQUIRED Female candidates Classical leotard, socks or classical tights. It is recommended that a skirt is worn. A classical ballet shoe must be worn Hair must be neatly groomed, with fringes taken away and off the face Male candidates Shorts/tights and T-shirt/leotard.
