FACEBOOK.COM/ GREATENDEAVOURRALLYOFFICIAL/ 2017 ONE DAY RALLY The 2017 One Day Rally was held on Saturday 18 February and it was a great success! We would like to congratulate and thank everyone who came along and enjoyed the day. It was hot, with the heatwave through Jondaryan turning up the temperature to a high of 39*C! Every participant and car did a great job at handling the heat (well nearly all cars made it, breakdown hill sorted a few out!) With a total of almost 40 teams, we would like to thank everyone for contributing to making it a memorable day. Also deserving of a big thank you the officials who braved the heat sitting on the side of the road to make sure every participant got through safe and were accounted for. Thank you! For more information, download the brochures: RALLY COURSE BROCHURE ROAD TRIP BROCHURE Stops 3 & 4 were featured in the January Great News STOPS 5&6 Heading south from Stop 4, Palmer River Roadhouse, Greenvale is a nickel mining settlement that was home to approximately 3,000 people when the mine was in operation. Now, the population is around 150 people. Lying on the banks of the Burdekin River, Greenvale sits 220km s west of Townsville and is known as the Outback life in the Tropics. Moranbah, stop 6, is one of the youngest towns in QLD being established in Originally created as a mining town to services multiple mines, it has now expanded to become a family-friendly town and the hub of the Isaac region. Maybe most notably, it is home to many of our Rally family! Hailing from Moranbah are Team Rescue Rangers (both male & female teams) and Team HRT 716! The HRT boys will be introducing the 2017 Great Endeavour Rally teams to their local footy club, the Moranbah Miners when we stop in on 15 June. Stay tuned for final stops 7 & 8 in the May Great News.

OUR RALLY LADIES This year, we have an impressive 3 all-female teams signed up for the rally!

Team Xena Team Xena are long-term Rally Warriors who have done several international rallies!

In 2015 we did the Road to Mandalay (from Singapore to Rangoon/Yangon). In 2016 we did the Peking to Paris a very tough 36-day rally, Heather said.

Hailing from Sydney, Team Xena are excited to journey through tropical North Queensland. We participate as an all-female team to have adventures together, said Heather.

We expect to get respect from the blokes on the Rally. We have always been seen previously as a couple of good Sheila s! Heather said. Welcome to the Great Endeavour Rally, Team Xena!

Ilene, the matriarch, will be joined by her daughter Karen, and Karen s daughter Rowanne. Three women, covering three generations in the one family! Rowanne said.

While this is the first Rally for Rowanne, Ilene and Karen will be returning once more in Car 012.

3 OUR RALLY LADIES This year, we have an impressive 3 all-female teams signed up for the rally! To celebrate March being Women s History Month with International Women s Day on 8 March, this newsletter will feature two of our all-female teams! Team Xena Team Xena are long-term Rally Warriors who have done several international rallies! Heather and her daughter Jo will be joining the Coral Sea Adventure on their first ever Great Endeavour Rally. In 2014 we did the New Zealand Targa. In 2015 we did the Road to Mandalay (from Singapore to Rangoon/Yangon). In 2016 we did the Peking to Paris a very tough 36-day rally, Heather said. In 2017, the duo will be taking their Volvo on the Great Endeavour Rally, after having tested the car out on the Southern Mountain Trail Revisited in March. As far as being an all-female team, these experienced ladies are expecting no issues. We have done very tough rallies together so nothing will stop us. Three Women, Three Generations Car 012 True Blue Gen 3, a three-generation and all-female team, are excited for The 2017 Great Endeavour Rally. Ilene s son Wayne will also be joining the Rally in Car 11, and Wayne s son Joshua will be in a support vehicle they are bringing everyone along on this adventure! While this is the first Rally for Rowanne, Ilene and Karen will be returning once more in Car 012. The stories that Ilene and Karen came back with from the 2016 Rally were highly entertaining (hilarious in fact) and they both enjoyed the adventure. They both wanted to do the Rally again so I decided to join them, said Rowanne. True Blue Gen 3 are looking forward to the Rally for many reasons, including celebrating a few milestones with Ilene s 80th birthday in July and Karen s 60th birthday in June! We are looking forward to visiting the Daintree, meeting new people, and sharing this adventure together. With the three of us living hundreds of kilometres apart, this is a great opportunity to spend some quality time together, Rowanne said. In preparation for the Rally, the women will be running many different fundraising ventures including a Cent Sale in May, a seafood raffle for Easter, a breakfast and a raffle in April, hand-made card raffle for Mother s Day, and sausage sizzles at the Hervey Bay refuse station. Car 012 seem like they are well prepared and ready to go, solving their most important issues: Ilene has been given a one-bag clothing allowance so the limited space challenge has been overcome. That just leaves making sure the wine is chilled at the end of the day! said Rowanne. It s great to have not only another all-female team on board, but also one that is three generations! We are looking forward to spending the Coral Sea Adventure with True Blue Gen 3!

4 Bundaberg Network Rentals Bundaberg Network Rentals will once again be joining us on the 2017 Great Endeavour Rally! Driving what is known as the Spares Truck, driver Wazza and navigator Carty volunteer their time to make sure the participants gear safely arrives at each stop. Besides carrying spares, camping gear, and general supplies (including some much needed refreshments ) for all entrants, the Spares Truck also acts as our sleeping quarters and venue for nightly discussions. We pack the gear each morning, then get to the next nights venue ahead of the rally entrants, then unload the truck so that their camping gear is ready for them, Carty said. While the Spares Truck comes to support the Great Endeavour Rally and our participants, Wazza and Carty enjoy it just as much as entrants. Highlight? There has been plenty of them seeing places we wouldn t otherwise see. Finke Desert Race, Uluru a night on the Birdsville track was a big one! said Carty will be the duo s third Rally, and hopefully not their last. We re most looking forward to catching up with the friends and characters we ve met on previous trips, Carty said. The Spares Truck is a huge help for participants while on the rally, so we would like to thank both Wazza and Carty for their time, effort, and dedication on part and future rallies. Barefoot Bowls Family Fun Day Brett & Mark from Team HRT 716 are holding a Barefoot Bowls Family Fun Day to raise funds for the 2017 Great Endeavour Rally! Held on 1 April at Moranbah Bowls Club, there will be fun for the whole family with fancy dress, prizes, a live band, a jumping castle, and more! Starting at 2pm, tickets are $10pp or $30 for a family. Dress code is YOU in 40 years! For more information or to register

5 TRU BLU II Saturday Session Trevor, Wayne, and Russell from Car 17 Tru Blu II are once again holding their Saturday Session fundraiser at the Spotted Dog Tavern! From 2.30pm on Saturday 20 May 2017, Bundaberg will be going off with live entertainment, continuous raffles, hot food, prizes, auctions, and more. Tickets are $25, which includes 10 raffle tickets. For more information please contact: Trevor Wayne Russell Endeavour Charity Ball Congratulations to Mick and Mel of Car 12 Sooby Doos on the recent event, the Endeavour Charity Ball. Held on 25 February at the Nelson Bay Bowling Club, the night was a great success raising $7,500! With around 75 guests, they were treated to a threecourse meal, drink on arrival and live music by Tim Usher. With raffles, prizes, and auctions, the entertainment was non-stop. It was the first of what will hopefully be many more successful fundraising events from Car 12! Congratulations Mick & Mel.
