1 25 th Annual East Texas Oilmen s Chili Cook-Off Downtown Kilgore, Texas at the World s Richest Acre You Are Invited to Participate in the IT S ALIVE AT 25! Celebrating 25 Years! The 25 th Annual East Texas Oilmen s Chili Cook-Off will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the World s Richest Acre on Commerce Street in Downtown Kilgore, Texas. This competitive event features oilfield related companies who will cook at least 50 pounds of meat. Prizes are awarded for the top 5 judged chilis as well as People s Choice, Showmanship and Best of Show awards. The NIGHT BEFORE set-up event is always fun and is open only for cook teams and their invited guests, age 21 and above. Have some fun and raise money for the East Texas Treatment Center! This year s theme is based around a Monster Bash...decorate your booth with Halloween flair. We would also like to encourage all teams to do individual fundraising for ETTC by holding a raffle/game at your cook-site. This is a great way to attract attention to your booth and your chili. Wristbands must be purchased before the Wednesday of the cook-off. We will not sell wristbands at the gate on Wednesday night. (Wristbands are good for both days. Cook teams are supplied with three (3) wristbands but may purchase more for their guests). Wristbands are required to be worn at all times. If you do not wear wristband, you will be escorted off the premises. The public is invited to join in the fun with tasting beginning at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 26, Wristbands will be available for $5.00 at the gates. The wristband allows a person to sample all the chili and vote for their top 5 favorites for the People s Choice award. Due to the limited space available downtown the following restrictions will apply: 1. Minimum space will be 12 x 12 with a maximum space of 12 x 48 (tent area included). Space is limited, so please return your entry forms ASAP. Maximum tent size of 15 wide. 2. REPORTING LOCATION: Set-up times will be scheduled in blocks. You will be notified prior to the event of your scheduled set-up time. You will only be allowed to set-up during your scheduled time. You will NOT be allowed to set-up early. Set-up times will begin on Tuesday. All cook teams will report to the First Baptist parking lot located at the corner of East North and North Martin Street. VERY IMPORTANT... If you do not show at your scheduled time to set-up, you will lose your spot and will be placed at the end of the street. This is due to congestion after cookers are in place. 3. No campers, motor-homes or travel trailers will be allowed. Cook trailers/enclosed trailers ONLY!!! 4. No motorized vehicles of any type. UNDERAGE DRINKING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED! EXCESSIVE DRINKING IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED! Please pay attention to the distribution of alcohol to your invited guests and employees on Wednesday night. No alcohol on Thursday! 3 2017 CHILI COOK-OFF RULES RIG UP/RIG DOWN Cook teams will be notified (prior to the cook-off) of their scheduled time to set-up. All teams must report to the First Baptist parking lot located at the corner of East North and North Martin. Teams MUST come during their scheduled set-up time, no early birds! Teams will not be allowed to bring any alcohol through the gates after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Plan on making one load in at set-up time and remove all vehicles after unloading. Once a Cook Team has been set-up, they cannot be dismantled or removed from that area until after the completion of the cook-off on Thursday following the awards. The cook-off will be over by 2:00 p.m., Thursday. Please plan to vacate your area as soon as possible after that time. CHILI RULES Note: This is NOT a certified Chili Cook-Off. 1. All cooking must be done on site, from scratch, with raw meat. 2. All Teams must start with a minimum of 50 pounds or more of meat. 3. No beans allowed in chili!!! Beans may be served as a side. 4. If you use commercial chili mixes, your chili will not be judged. 5. No cooking of chili on the night before. 6. Judging cups (20 oz.), and public (4 oz.) tasting cups and trash service will be supplied. Cook teams will be responsible for all spoons, crackers and napkins, etc. 7. All entries MUST cook chili. No exceptions! 8. You can begin cooking at 4 a.m. Thursday morning. 9. The chili will be judged on five criteria which are aroma, red color, consistency, taste and after taste. PARKING On Wednesday and Thursday morning, please do not park in front of any business which is open. Please do not park or drive under any of the derricks or park on the concrete foundations. Warning your vehicle will be towed! Additional parking is located at North Kilgore Street at the Kilgore Plaza and at the First Baptist parking lot located at East North and North Martin. Please park your vehicles at either location! FIRE PITS and OPEN FIRES ALL cook teams that will have an open fire must have an APPROVED fire pit located on an APPROVED surface for burning! COOKING AREA 1. Use Coleman type stoves, propane cookers, etc. for your heat. No open fires for cooking. MUST have fire extinguisher. 2. All cooking MUST be done outside at the cook-off. 3. Please be prepared for any and all weather conditions. 4. All cooking utensils, tables, chairs, cooking trailers, and tents are the responsibility of each individual cook team. There are no electrical outlets so please plan accordingly. 5. The Chili Cook-Off Association will supply trash service. Each cook team is responsible to keep your site clean and free of trash and clutter at all times. 6. No dumping of grease or left over chili in grass or streets. 7. The Kilgore Health Department requires each cook team to have hand wash facilities such as a portable hand washing station or water (in a jug with spigot), soap, paper towels and pan to catch water. Proper hand washing etiquette should be observed. Proper heating and cooling of hazardous foods should be maintained. Inspector will be at event on both days observing and speaking to cook teams. NO DISPLAYS OR ADVERTISING OF OUTSIDE VENDORS OR EVENTS AT A CHILI BOOTH AND NO SELLING OF PRODUCTS OF ANY KIND. MANDATORY MEETING JUDGING CUPS A mandatory meeting will be held for all head cooks at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Judging Tent located at the World s Richest Acre. The head cook will be given a judging cup, booth number, voting can and sample cups. The number in the judging cup should be removed and retained by the head cook. The winners will be announced by this number. If you lose your number, you lose your chance to win. Do not tamper with the number on the cup. 8:30 A.M. 4 2017 CHILI COOK-OFF PARTICIPANTS The Committee is asking each cook team to be extremely cautious with the public consumption of alcohol. We would like you to monitor your invited guests and team members throughout Wednesday evening. We understand that you are not responsible for the behavior of others, but please do your part by being a concerned participant and business partner. We don t want anyone causing trouble and even more importantly, getting injured. Our ultimate goal is to raise money for a worthy cause, and have an enjoyable time in doing so. Reminder no alcohol will be allowed on Thursday! We look forward to seeing everyone and having a great time! ATTENTION Due to the overall footprint available, the number of teams may need to be reduced. Please get your registrations completed and entry fees paid on or before the deadline. Space is on a first come, first served basis. No spots will be guaranteed without documents and payments received. Please start planning the process now if your check needs to be issued from a Corporate Office! Wednesday Night Event Only 21 and older will be permitted to attend event! Wednesday Night will Shut Down at 10 p.m.

6 HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFICATION AGREEMENT EAST TEXAS OILMEN S CHILI COOK-OFF To the fullest extent permitted by law, agrees to defend, including attorneys fees, pay on behalf of, indemnify, and hold harmless the East Texas Treatment Center, its Board of Directors, employees and volunteers and others working on behalf of the East Texas Treatment Center, including but not limited to the members of the East Texas Oilmen s Chili Committee against any and all claims, demands, suits or loss, including all costs connected therewith, and for any damages which may be asserted, claimed or recovered against or from the East Texas Treatment Center, its Board of Directors, employees, volunteers or others working on behalf of the East Texas Treatment Center including but not limited to the members of the East Texas Oilmen s Chili Committee by reason of personal injury, including bodily injury or death and/or property damage, including loss of use thereof and/or theft, which arises out of or is in any way connected or associated with the event of the East Texas Oilmen s Chili Cook-Off, in which knowingly and voluntarily participates. WAIVER OF LIABILITY & AGREEMENT, agrees to observe all state and federal laws, including those pertaining to the consumption of alcohol during the East Texas Oilmen s Chili Cook-Off, lasting from October 24 to October 26, 2017, and agrees to prohibit persons under 21 years of age from participating in the Chili Cook-Off on Wednesday, October 26, This agreement releases the East Texas Treatment Center, including the Board of Directors, any employees or volunteers, and the East Texas Oilmen s Chili Cook-Off Association, from all liability relating to injuries or loss of property that may occur during the East Texas Oilmen s Chili Cook-Off. acknowledges there is a risk involved in the consumption of alcohol at the East Texas Oilmen s Chili Cook-Off. RULE INFRACTION DISQUALIFICATION AGREEMENT Any infractions of the rules will result in disqualification and booth closure for the remainder of event.
