2 Attention: WME PARENTS We are very excited about continuing to use a program called Remind101 that will assist us with communicating quick alerts such as when severe weather is determined. This is a program that allows for you to receive a text message from West Memorial s administrative team. These messages will be very short and to the point. The program does not allow for a reply and WME s administration cannot see the phone numbers attached to the subscriber. Please understand that although the hope for this tool is to assist with communicating quick alerts, it s not guaranteed that it will always work. The front office will always be able to assist you. If you are not currently a subscriber, and you have texting capability, please consider doing these quick and easy steps: Open your message system and type in the following number: In the message, type (no It will then send you a message asking you to type in your name. After this step, you are finished. From that point, you will begin receiving messages as they are sent. We have found this this program to be valuable in communicating with our parents and hope that you will participate! Katy ISD Education Foundation Harvey Relief Fundraiser The Katy ISD Education Foundation has launched a unique fundraiser that will provide support for Katy ISD staff, students and their families adversely impacted by flooding in their homes as a result of Hurricane Harvey. The funds will be administered by the Katy ISD Education Foundation. Every Katy ISD campus will be given the opportunity to designate staff and students in need of support. Any donation you can make regardless of size will help us help our Katy ISD family. Please share this opportunity on social media and to help spread the word. The Education Foundation s mission is to provide extraordinary classroom experiences for Katy ISD teachers and students. In this case, the extraordinary will, in fact, be the ordinary - needed funds that directly help Katy ISD students, staff, and their families rebuild their homes and lives. Donate and share today! Katy ISD Education Foundation foundation@katyisd.org OCTOBER RECIPE: Apples n Yogurt: Remember, never cook alone and only use knives and other cooking tools with the help of an adult. 7 It is time to bring your favorite book character to life! Book Character Parade Friday, October 20 8:45 AM WME will participate in a Book Character Parade! Come to school dressed as one of your favorite characters from a favorite story. Be creative with your costumes and think about what your favorite book character would wear. We encourage students to carry the book with them throughout the parade so we know which storybook the character is from! Students may choose any character from a book they enjoy! Parents are welcome to stand outside on the sidewalks down Provincial Boulevard to watch the parade. Since this will be a full day of school, we encourage students to pack a change of clothes so they may change out of their costumes after the parade.
