A Safety precautions A1. Anyone working with or on the Söll Vi-Go fall arrest system must be familiarized with these instructions prior to using the system. Use which is not in accordance with these instructions constitutes a risk to human life. Operatives must be given training covering these instructions and the user information before starting work and at regular intervals thereafter, but at least once a year. A2. The operator of the Söll Vi-Go fall protection system as well as the user of the fall arrester must properly ensure that this manual is always stored in a dry place together with the appropriate fall arrester and is available for consultation at all times. A3. The operating company must present this instruction manual at the request of the manufacturer (HONEYWELL FALL PROTECTION Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG or one of its authorized dealers) It has to be enclosed to the fall arrester when sending it in. A4. National accident prevention regulations and the rules for use of personal protective equipment against falling, for work positioning and for rescue must be adhered to. A5. The guided type fall arrester that comes with the Söll Vi-Go system is an integral part of the Söll fall arrest system type Söll Vi-Go in compliance with EN 353-1:2014 and is designed for use as personal protection equipment. To ensure proper use of the Söll fall protection system, the operator must ensure that the full body harness and the fall arrester are used according to these instructions. After use, the fall arrester must not be left connected to the anchor line. The fall arrester that comes with the Söll Vi-Go system must be operated only in original Söll Vi-Go fall arrest systems. Use with systems from other manufacturers can interfere with the function of the fall arrester. In such cases, Honeywell Fall Protection Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG and its authorized dealers do not assume liability for the product. As a result, the complete liability is transferred to the operator. A6. The fall arrest system must be used only in conjunction with full body harnesses that have been checked and approved in accordance with EN 361 and are equipped with a front attachment point. A7. The conjunction between fall arrestor and full body harness is effected through connecting the karabiner hook of the fall arrester with a certified fall arrest D-ring/loops (marked with A ) at the front of the full body harness. The distance between the fall arrester and fully body harness must not be minimized and enlarged (e.g. by adding or removing a connector). A8. A maximum of 3 users may simultaneously protect themselves against falling from a height using the Söll Vi-Go fall arrest system, in which each user must use a seperate fall arrester. The distance between the users must not be less than 3,0 m. The actual number of users depends on the load-bearing capacity of the base structure. A9. The allowed user weight indicated on the fall arrester is minimum 50 kg (without equipment) and maximum 140 kg (incl. clothes and equipment). 4

A10. To ensure the safety of the user in case of a fall, fall arrester must not be used by hand but it has to move freely on the guided type fall arrester. A11. The fall arrest system should always be handled in a manner that will protect it from damage or corrosion. A12. The fixation-points for the cable of the Söll Vi-Go system must not be used for securing loads. A13. Before and during the use of the installed fall arrest system, the system must be visibly inspected to ensure that it is operating properly. A14. The operator of the fall arrest system must ensure that a rescue measures plan is available that takes into account all possible emergencies that may occur when working. A15. Working temperatures are between 40 C to +60 C. Here, ensure that the system is free of grease, oil and ice. When not in use the ambient air temperatur the must not exceed 100 C. A16. Because of the risk of non-visible stress corrosion cracking, the fall arrest system made of stainless steel should not be installed in a highly corrosive atmosphere (e.g. above a swimming pool), unless specific control measures are in place or compatibility is established. A17. The operator must be in good health and must not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicines. A18. In case of the use of further personal protective equipment, relevant instructions must be followed. A19. The check list (see section F) must be fully and correctly compiled by an authrized person or body using of an indelible pen. A20. Note: Because of the required arresting distance in case of a fall the user may be not be sufficiently protected against hitting the ground or obstacles if at a height of less than 2 m. Therefore when using the fall arrest system, ensure that there is always a minimum free space of 2 m under the user s feet. A21. To protect the safety of installers and users it is important, that if a reseller sells the equipment in an other country, the reseller is responsible for providing these instructions in the relevant national language(s). A22. Any modifications or enhancements of the Söll Vi-Go system without a written approval of the manufacturer are not permitted. A23. 6 B Installation B1. Important! Before installation, check whether the substructure on which the Söll Vi-Go system is to be fixed is capable of withstanding loads resulting from a fall (certificate for stability). A qualified expert must certify this. The maxiumum installation angle to the vertical axis is 15 (forward, backward or lateral incline). The maximum length of the cable may not exceed 200 m. The following characteristic loads form the basis of the certificate of stability: loads resulting from dynamic loads due to fall, user loads and the individual weight of the system components. For fastening the upper end of the cable, acting vertically downward: number of simultaneous users Characteristic vertical load F c1 [kn] For fastening the intermediate bracket and the lower end of the cable, independent of the number of users, effective in each direction: F c2 = 1,5 kn. 6

The upper cable anchor point most always be above the user. B4. Warning! The cable must be sufficiently tensioned. The tension reading on the cable tensioner must be between the minimum and the maximum marking. 7

B5. The maximum distance between two intermediate brackets is 10 meter. The intermediate brackets reduce and limit the deflections of the steel cable. The deflection of the system depends on the total length and the wind speed. The intermediates must avoid that the cable is touching the construction and can get damaged. For longer systems and in regions with high wind speed, we recommend shorter distances between the intermediate brackets. - Systems length up to 55 m, 4 m between the intermediate brackets. - Systems length more than 55 m, 3 m between the intermediate brackets. - If the wind speed is more than 130 km/h, 3 m between the intermediate brackets. These are recommendations. If it is secured, that the cable will not touch the steel structure, the maximum distance between the intermediates can be used. B6. At least the following components must be used when installing the Söll Vi-Go system: 1. Cable tensioner (2, fig. B1a) 2. Cable 7 x 19 (8 mm / 10 mm) (3, fig. B1a) B7. Installing the Söll Vi-Go system: Fig. B2 A A: Upper cable end thimbled or with end terminal B: Bottom cable end with thimble C: Cable tensioner D: Tensioning element E: Tension indicator F: Cable attachment point G: Lock nuts H: Cable clamps H B Important! Cable clamps (H) may only be fixed at the bottom cable end. 4 pieces are required. F 1. Fasten the upper cable end (A) at the upper attachment point. 2. Fix the cable tensioner (C) to the lower attachment point. C D G G 3. Hang the lower cable end (B) on the cable attachment point (F) of the cable tensioner (C). 4. Turn the tensioning element (D) counter clockwise until the tension indicator (E) is between the minimum and the maximum marking. At 1500 N the cable is sufficiently pre-tensioned. 5. Secure the tensioning element (D) against twisting using the two locking nuts (G). E 8

B8. Note! The cable of the Vi-Go system must be pre-tensioned to ensure the correct functioning of the shuttle. The required pre-tension is 1500 N (+/- 100 N) B9. Important! If automatic intermediate brackets will be installed, they must be pushed onto the cable before fitting the cable end connections. Please make sure that the engraved arrow is pointing upwards. (fig. B3) Fig. B3 B10. For installation of the swageless terminal cable end part an acid free gasket material e.g. Silkaflex 221 should be used. It has to be put in the conical housing of the cable end part. Therefore the swageless end terminal has to be screwed on and the gasket material has to be put in conical housing and also in the gaps of the clamp jaws. After that the swageless end terminal has to be screwed together. This act has to be retried till the gasket material discharge out of the opening where the cable has to be inserted. Then the swageless end terminal has to be cleaned. Clamp jaws of an already tightly screwed end terminal must not be reused. 9

C Use C1. Important! Inspection before climbing: Before each use, inspect the cable, the cable tension, the fall arrester, the intermediate fixings and the karabiners for usability. The fall arrest system must not be used if defects have been noted or in case of doubts as to its proper function. Before further use an inspection by a authorized person or body is needed or the defective parts have to be replaced. Before and during use it should be planned how to effect a rescue safely and effectively. C2. Each user must secure himself to a separate fall arrester. C3. The fall arrest system, properly used in connection with a full body harness, protects its user during ascent and descent against falls. C4. When working in or next to the ascent route and during jobs and actions that are not a part of the usual ascent and descent movements, the climber must additionally secure themselves with a lanyard in accordance with EN 354 or a lanyard for safety harness in accordance with EN 358. (Securing with an anchor device). This is also applicable for idle positions that are intended to be a break on the fall arrest ladder. Only suitable anchor devices must be used for this. In all these situations, the lanyard must be held tight in order to prevent a fall. C5. Important! The fall arrest system according to EN shall be used only by persons who: have been trained or are otherwise competent are supervised directly by a trained or competent person C6. The guided type fall arrester that comes with the Söll Vi-Go system is a cable -guided fall arrester with an integrated shock absorber, which permits the use without opening the anchor line. Its technology allows one-handed fixing on an 8 mm or 10 mm thick steel cable. The fall arrester has an anti-inversion mechanism, which prevents the fall arrester from being attached in an upside down position to the cable. 10

C7. Connecting the fall arrester to the full body harness: 1. Pull-down the knurled bushing (4.1) of the karabiner. 2. Then turn the knurled bushing and press it inwards. 3. Connect it directly with the front sternal fall arrest D-ring/loops of the full body harness marked with A (see fig. C1). 4. Release the knurled bushing, it locks automatically. Danger! An unsecured karabiner (open knurled bushing) is dangerous to human life Fig. C1 front fall arrest D-ring / loops attachment element attachment element C8. Warning: Risk of life! The karabiner of the fall arrester must be directly connected to the certified front sternal fall arrest D-ring/loops (marked with A ) of the full body harness to ensure the usage in accordance with the standard EN Note: It is absolutely prohibited to use karabiners of another type than the original ones provided! C9. Danger! The full body harness must fit well and tightly to the body! If the harness becomes loose during ascent or descent, it should be correctly adjusted again from a secured position. C10. Note: The distance between the outer edge of the guide rail and the internally bent eyelet / loops on the harness must not exceed 200 mm. 11

C11. Inserting in the guiding cable Danger! The engaging the fall arrester s release or locking function as well as attaching the fall arrester to the cable should be done only from a safe position where there is no risk of a fall. Check whether the shuttle can freely slide vertically on the guide cable. 8. Check the functioning of the locking and catch mechanism by moving the latch (3). Note: When the fall arrester is locked correctly the reset pin (4) must be flush with the housing. 12

Fig. C3 C12. Danger! Fall protection must be ensured in another way before removing the fall arrester from the guide cable. The engaging the fall arrester s release function or handling fall arrester during ascent or descent could hinder or even deactivate the safe operation of the braking mechanism and should be done only from a safe position where there is no risk of a fall. Removing from the guide cable: 1. Press the lock knob (1). 2. Press the lock knob (1) and push slider (2) into the housing. 3. Push the latch (3) upwards. 4. Through the now-open gap in the housing of the fall arrester, remove it. 5. Release the slider (2) and the lock knob (1). C13. Important! When trying to attach the fall arrester to the cable upside-down (fig. C5) the blocking lever (5) automatically swings out and thus prevents attaching the fall arrester to the cable. Fig. C4 5 13

D Maintenance D1. A fall arrest system which has been subjected to stress resulting from a fall shall no longer be used and must be removed from service. It may only be used again if an authorized person or body approves such use. The fall arrester must be returned to the manufacturer or authorized dealer for inspection together with these instructions. D2. The Söll Vi-Go fall arrest system should be inspected regularly as required, but the system must be inspected at least once every 12 months. Abnormal environmental conditions (dirt, dust, chemical impacts, temperature, UV radiation and other) can require more frequent maintenance intervals. Please ask the customer service person responsible for your area for advice. Always ensure Manufacturer s instructions and statutory regulations are taken into account when inspecting. Danger! Not or only insufficient carried out inspections and maintenance will impair the efficiency and the lifetime of the fall arrest system and therefore endanger the safety of the user. Warning! Inspections may only be carried out by the manufacturer or by its authorized person or body. The authorization can be acquired through a training and regular refreshers by the manufacturer. The hereby received certificate is valid for 3 years and authorizes to conduct regular inspections of Söll systems. Warning! An authorization for inspections does not include an authorization to carry out repairs. For reasons of safety repairs may only be carried out by the manufacturer or a person appointed by him. D3. Important! If, in case of abnormal environmetal conditions, the fall arrester doesn t lock correctly and the reset pin (fig. D1, pos. 4) protrudes from the housing, the fall arrester can be locked manually by pushing the reset pin. If this is not possible or the fall arrester subsequently doesn t close automatically it must be removed from service and must be sent to the manufacturer or its authorised body for revision.
