4 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Purpose The purpose of Alton Cricket Club is to provide a safe environment in which all members of the club can play friendly and competitive cricket to the best of their ability and for the whole community to have the opportunity to access the game of cricket. It will achieve this purpose by: 1) Attracting and retaining new and existing members including playing and nonplaying members. 2) Promoting personal development through participation in cricket and other activities, particularly for young people. 3) Facilitate the improvement and improved use of the facilities at Jubilee Playing Fields. 4) Ensure at all times Alton Cricket Club provides safe, effective and childfriendly activities and fulfils its duty of care to groups and individuals. 1.2 Current Status Alton Cricket Club already has a strong foundation and has been actively involved in continuous development for several years. In summary the Club already has: 1) Sound financial management and a robust administrative structure, 2) A strong playing and non-playing membership that is vibrant, has a clear volunteer ethos, an enthusiastic fraternity and good Codes of Conduct, 3) A long established, well managed and coached junior sections with good disciplines, 4) Adequate playing and training facilities, and, 5) Strong Partnerships with the local Council and school groups. Alton Cricket Club considers that they do not have to make any major changes to the way the Club is run. However, the Club will actively continue to promote and develop the Club to achieve the goals set out in this Club Development Plan. 1.3 Structure of the Report Alton Cricket Club has identified core areas where it must concentrate its efforts to meets its goals and within those core areas has set a number of clear and achievable objectives. The core areas include Club Management and Affiliations, Sponsor Relations, Community Partnerships, Senior Cricket, Youth Cricket, Club Officials, Ladies Cricket, Disabled Cricket and Grounds and Facilities. 5 SECTION 1 DEVELOPING CLUB MANAGEMENT AND AFFILIATIONS Comments on Club Mark The Club has registered for Clubmark Gain Clubmark accreditation Teamwork from Sub committee Generate a Clubmark Checklist and follow the Clubmark Resource Pack. 7 SECTION 1 DEVELOPING CLUB MANAGEMENT AND AFFILIATIONS Comments on Child Welfare The Club has a Child Welfare Officer that has been training in Good Practice and Child Protection and a Time to Listen All coaches umpires & scorers and playing members of the committee have undergone CRB Checks All members to have completed a Self Declaration Form Appoint Assistant CWO to be trained Include Self Declaration Form as part of Membership Pack Provide Annual Refreshers and monitor progress Encourage and support any existing members who are interested in gaining qualifications. The club has an excellent relationship with the Alton Town Council The club to be continually represented on the Alton Sports Council and to present views of the Alton Cricket Club. Continue to work with Alton Town Council and develop relationship Attend meetings regularly and develop strong relationships with all members of Council. 11 SECTION 2 DEVELOPING SPONSOR RELATIONSHIPS Comments on Major Sponsor The Club does not have a Major Sponsor A Major Sponsor to assist in developing the club by providing financial support Product a list of local businesses that would be potential sponsors. 12 SECTION 3 DEVELOPING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS Promoting Alton Cricket to Schools and Groups The club promotes itself through the press and to local schools and groups. The club has informal links with Four Marks and Bentley primary schools There are approximately 10 primary schools in the area. There are 2 secondary schools in the area. Promote and improve links and have points of contact with: 1. Existing linked schools 2. Local Schools 2. Treloars College Establish links with 6 primary schools increasing to 10 Links to 1 secondary schools increasing to 2. Alton Coaches to provide support at local Kwik Cricket events and for school cricket taster sessions. Encourage links via membership of sports forum and other such organisations Establish contact names, numbers & addresses. Training Sessions at the following Primary Schools Four Marks, Bentley, Anstey Junior, St Lawrence, Medstead and Wootey s. Provide coaching to schools include using Overseas Player and 1st Team players. 13 SECTION 3 DEVELOPING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS Make Available Alton Cricket Club Cricket Facilities to Local Groups The club does share facilities with local schools including Alton College. Continue to share the grounds and facilities to existing to groups. Increase the number of groups that have access to our facilities. Promote facilities as per Actions in above item. Ensure there is a formal agreement with existing clients and promote use of facilities to other schools. 14 SECTION 3 DEVELOPING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS Make Available Alton Cricket Club Social Facilities to Local Groups The Cricket Club does not host non-cricket club events. Hold Social Functions at the Club House. For example. Kids Parties, Darts Nights, Pool Nights. Investigate the requirements for holding Social Functions at the clubhouse. Promote the facilities to existing members and within local press. Local Community Groups. Investigation will determine local partners that could assist. 15 SECTION 4 DEVELOPING CLUB MEMBERSHIP Playing Membership A playing membership of around 120 including colts. A well managed process to encourage new colts members Retain existing members and provide an organised transfer of Colts to the Senior Teams once they leave the Colts Teams. 16 SECTION 4 DEVELOPING CLUB MEMBERSHIP Non-Playing Membership Approximately 30 non-playing members. No real structure or process apart from Vice Presidents. Get more non playing partners & friends to parties and functions at the club house Target is to retain non playing membership to half the level of the senior playing membership Make all nonplaying members aware of Coaching, Umpiring and Scoring opportunities. 17 SECTION 5 DEVELOPING SENIOR CRICKET Senior Cricket The club has: 4 Saturday XI Teams 2 Sunday XI Teams Midweek XI Touring Squad No Ladies Section (Development of Ladies section included in Section 8 below) Get the Sat 1 st XI to Gold league Have equally spaced ability between the Saturday teams with the primary objective for the 1 st and 2 nd Xis to retain their positions and the Sat 3 rd XI promoted. They are currently in a league too close to the 4 th XI and too far away from the 2 nd XI Players to feel they are treated fairly Ensure players are picked on ability with appropriate balance of skill and experience. Ensure the 3 rd XI has the right balance of experience and ability Ensure the selection process is fair and accountable and Captains personally inform players when they are selected for a different team Cricket Selection Committee and Senior players 1 st XI into Gold 1-3 years Equally spaced teams in the Saturday Leagues 1-3 years Fair selection process already working just need to keep making sure that the process is always followed Cricket Selection Committee and ultimately the Chairman of the Selection Committee, the Club Cricket Captain No financial outlay Issue 1 / May ACC/CD/CD01

18 SECTION 5 DEVELOPING SENIOR CRICKET Senior Cricket Development and Coaching Senior Coaching through preseason and throughout the playing season from Qualified Coaches. Currently have three ECB Level 2 Active Coaches. Continually improve the playing strength through development of current members through coaching and playing friendly and competitive matches. Continue to use existing resources. Encourage all coaches to conduct training sessions throughout the season. Make available to all members one on one coaching by qualified coaches. 19 SECTION 5 DEVELOPING SENIOR CRICKET Integrating Young Players in to the Senior Sides Colts already play a major part in the Senior teams it is important that this balance is retained and the opportunity remains. Retain this opportunity for the colts offering games for the higher ability colts on Saturday or Sunday. Also look to fast track certain colts with opportunities in the Saturday and Sunday 1 st XIs. Ensure the U17 and other managers are invited to put forward colts at the selection meetings Investigate providing a mentoring system for Colts Players using Senior members Support from the coaches and colts managers We are there already we are planning to ensure we retain this capability, encourage colts to play a major part in senior games whilst retaining the balance of senior players (this being the only available game for them) Cricket Selection Committee and ultimately the Chairman of the Selection Committee, the Club Cricket Captain No financial outlay Developing Junior Coaching & Competition Junior members play senior cricket when appropriate. Improve Juniors ability to ensure they can cope with the step up to senior level. Fast-track good juniors to the 1st team. 20 SECTION 6 DEVELOPING YOUTH CRICKET Youth Cricket The club has a junior section. Retain the current junior members and improve the quality of the junior section. By maintaining coaching resource and improving organisation. Encouraging more parent volunteers and working with local volunteer agencies. 21 SECTION 6 DEVELOPING YOUTH CRICKET Coaching The club has 15 ECB qualified coaches. Club Coaches to be actively involved in training of Youth Teams. See Section 7 below Coaching Regular practice sessions are organised throughout the winter and summer months Each Colts Level has a Colts Manager with a coaching qualification Maintain & Improve coaching for Junior Section. Increase length of U11/13 training sessions Ensure all Colts Managers have an assistant. By increasing coaching resource and improving organisation. 24 SECTION 7 DEVELOPING COACHES, UMPIRES, AND SCORERS Coaching The club has 15 Active Coaches. The club has three ECB Level 2 Coaches The club has a ratio of better than 1 coach for every 16 Ensure all Coaches assist in coaching within the Club across all levels. Maintain current ratio of active coaches above 1 in 16 players Ensure a minimum of two ECB Level 2 Coaches within the Club. Encourage all coaches to update their qualifications and move to ECB Level 2 or above. Determine costs of ECB Coaching Courses. 25 SECTION 7 DEVELOPING COACHES, UMPIRES, AND SCORERS Scorers The club has 2 unpaid scorers Jean Gillingham and Patsy Heffernan. Jean Gillingham is a qualified scorer. Maintain a minimum of 1 scorer for each Saturday League Teams. Total of 4 Ensure Scorers are adequately trained in Child Welfare. Advertise within the current membership base. 26 SECTION 7 DEVELOPING COACHES, UMPIRES, AND SCORERS Umpires The club has two voluntary members who regularly umpire on Saturday for the 2 nd and 3 rd Team. Maintain a minimum of 3 voluntary umpires. Ensure umpires are adequately trained in Child Welfare with Good Practice and Child Protection or a Self Declaration as a minimum. Advertise within the current membership base. Advertise in the local community. Encourage and support umpires to conduct training courses Encourage more Parents to get involved with Senior Section, and not just involved with their children. 27 SECTION 8 DEVELOPING LADIES CRICKET Team The club do not have a Women and Girls Section Develop a Women and Girls Cricket Section Participate in a minimum of 5 friendly matches first year. A Womens and Girls section affiliated to a league and playing league cricket Working with CDO s to establish a local player base and promote cricket in schools and other social groups. Promote within local sports including Hockey Club and Rugby Club. HCB and Cricket Development Officer. Alton Town Council Local Community. Awards for All Grant. Start the Section in Summer 2005 and play Friendly matches. Join a Womens league in Huw Ross, Cricket Committee 1. Equipment Clothing Assistance from a Government Grant Management No Womens Cricket Representative on the Committee Member(s) of the Womens Section to represent the Women and Girls Section on the Club Executive Nominate members of the team who are interested in representative position. 28 SECTION 8 DEVELOPING LADIES CRICKET Team Coaching The club has active volunteer coaches within available to work with the Women and Girls Section A permanent coach for the Women and Girls Section to assist with training and management Work with the Hampshire Cricket Board to Attract a full time qualified coach to manage and coach the ladies team. HCB and Cricket Development Officer Summer 2005 Cricket Committee and Huw Ross Cost of a coach per season is 800. Includes approximately 40 hours of coaching and playing time. Player Coaching The club has no female coaches A minimum of 2 female players to be trained to ECB Level 1 Standard and provide volunteer coaching within the club. Encourage and support all female players to take ECB Level coaching course. Determine cost of ECB Coaching Courses and provide subsidy to club members. 29 SECTION 8 DEVELOPING LADIES CRICKET Marketing The club do not promote cricket to Women and Girls. To promote the Women and Cricket section within the Community. Advertise the club in newspapers, radio and using posters. Utilise ground for female coaching events Local Newspaper and community groups. Volunteer Coaches within Club. Ongoing Clubs Coaches and School Liaison Officer Cost for Coach to conduct taster sessions 20 per hour. 30 SECTION 9 DEVELOPING DISABLED CRICKET Host Disabled County Games The club hosts 2 county games per year The Club has links with HCB, Dorset, Somerset and Hertfordshire CB Continue to host disabled county cricket games To have a solid reputation as a cricket club with active links to English Disabled Cricket Continue our relationship with the Disabled Cricket Organisation HCB, Dorset, Somerset and Hertfordshire CB through Jeff Levick Ongoing Fixture Secretary John Kiddle NA Facilities The club has temporary ramp facilities to allow access to major sections of Building. There is no Disabled wheelchair access toilet. 31 SECTION 9 DEVELOPING DISABLED CRICKET Community Development The club have not held a Development Day for disabled people. Provide facilities to local community By contact and liaison with these schools and groups The club coaches are available to a disabled or special needs team/school Make special schools aware that club coaches are available either on or off-site to these groups. 32 SECTION 10 DEVELOPING GROUNDS AND FACILITIES Evidence of Grounds and Facilities The club has a council-owned ground consisting of two grass squares and one artificial wicket. The Club has a Clubhouse, Changing facilities for two teams, training facilities, scoreboard and cricket equipment Retain our existing facilities (See below for separate requirement for SPL accreditation) Grounds and Facilities Report ACC/GF/GF01 has been created to deal with the ground and facilities improvements necessary. 33 SECTION 10 DEVELOPING GROUNDS AND FACILITIES Evidence of Ground Lease Agreement The club has a tenure agreement that is secured for the following:- 84 yrs Ensure tenure gets renegotiated within a timely manner e,g not the year before it runs out. Need to establish when it does and ensure the club secure same if not better deal. Negotiate terms of lease with Alton Town Council. The clubhouse to be compliant with the Disability Discrimination Report conducted on behalf of the Cricket Club. Ramped access has to be created for all of the entrances to the changing rooms and bar area. Quotes have to be compiled from building firms for the construction of ramps. End of the 2005 season. Grounds and Facilities Committee Clubhouse Veranda The clubhouse veranda is in urgent need of repair. A new veranda incorporating scorers area and provision for smokers. Smoking in all areas of clubhouse is banned as of Replacement of balustrades with galvanised steel poles. New wooden worktop. Supply of materials by Rikki Little. The club does not own any bowling machine balls. A functioning bowling machine for training purposes. New practise balls for the bowling machine. Repair and Maintain current Bowling machine. Fundraising specifically for a bowling machine or applying for grants. Club Volunteers Beginning of 2006 season. Grounds and Facilities Chairman John Kiddle 1500 approx. Grounds Nets The Cricket Club possesses two portable practice nets for use on central artificial wicket. Two fixed nets on two artificial wickets. 1. Investigate Different Locations for Nets 2.
