2 The following pages are considered the material changes to the Playing Conditions for the 2018/19 season that may affect the day to day running of your match.

3 Spirit of Cricket and Player of the Year Playing Condition 5.6 The Spirit of Cricket, and Player of the Year marks are required for any match that finishes in a no result (wash out) where more than 30 overs of play has occurred, or where the match has already had the first innings completed but less than 30 overs in the day has been completed.

4 Using 12 Players in a Match Playing Condition 9.2(4)(e) If a team plays with 12 men at the halfway point when drinks are taken where the fielding team must rotate one player, the person coming on to the field is now allowed to bowl straight away.

5 Matches Played in 20 Over Segments Playing Condition 9.3(2) Teams are no longer able to play their matches split into two segments of 20 overs each in normal weather conditions (or when rain looks possible). 20 over segments are now restricted to days where the temperature is 35 degrees or more. Both captains AND the umpire must all be in agreement for this to occur.

6 Restrictions on Players Aged Under 16 Playing Condition 9.11(3) Sometimes a team may play an under 16 year old because they are short. Playing conditions allow this. However, starting in 2018/19, any under 16 player shall not bat any higher than number 7 in the order.

7 Playing Condition 10.1(2) Masters and Classics Cricket Leg Side Wides Bowlers can deliver two balls per over down the leg side that make no contact with the batsman. A third or subsequent such delivery shall be called wide. Umpires must supply a first and second warning signal to the bowler and the batsman after each of the first two free leg side deliveries are bowled in the over A leg side delivery that is so wide that it is called wide under the regular laws of cricket shall not count as one of the two free leg side deliveries that a bowler can deliver per over.

8 Accidental No Ball Call Playing Condition 10.6 The square leg umpire does not have jurisdiction to call No Ball for a high full toss. If a player acting as square leg umpire, or an officially appointed umpire standing at square leg calls no ball for a high full toss and the official umpire at the non strikers end deems the call incorrect, then the call will be treated as invalid and void. If the batsman gets out on such a delivery the dismissal shall stand.

9 Umpire Appointments / Payments Playing Condition 4.4(1) and 4.4(2) The match fee this season is $80 per side for a one umpire game. Where 2 umpires are appointed it will be an experienced umpire with a newer umpire who will receive coaching during the day. Clubs will pay $110 each (instead of $80) for days where 2 umpires are appointed. To ensure clubs are not financially disadvantaged the allocations of two umpires to a match will be limited to no more than 3 occurrences per season, per team. * FYI Round 1 - Masters (3 games with 2 umps). Classics (2 games)

10 Umpire Payments for No Play Days Playing Condition 4.5(1), 4.5(2), and 4.5(3) If participants arrive at the ground and due to weather or ground conditions no play takes place - If play is abandoned before 2pm then the umpire match fee is reduced to $35 each team (1 umpire) or $55 each team (2 umpires). If play is abandoned from 2pm onwards the full umpire match payment is due, ie, $80 each team (1 umpire) or $110 each team (2 umpires).

11 Unfair Play Contriving a Result Playing Condition 11 A number of unsavory incidents have occurred in recent seasons where batsmen in the lower order deliberately try to get out to hasten the return of a better batsman who was forced to retire at the maximum score (40 for Masters and 30 for Classics). Fielding teams have in response tried to delay the return of such batsmen by deliberately not trying to effect the dismissal. This ends up in a stalemate with tempers fraying and things getting confrontational. Measures have now been put in place in Playing Condition 11 that gives the umpire powers to deal with such a situation which can include a 5 run penalty and/or the reporting of the team captain and the offending player/s for code of conduct breaches. All participants are encouraged to read and understand the contents of Playing Condition 11 ahead of the start of the season.

12 Extreme Heat Policy

13 Masters and Classics Cricket Extreme Heat Policy * Where play is forecast to be more than 38 degrees at a majority of venues the day before play, the competition committee should be calling off the whole round. * Where play commences play should be suspended if the temperature goes over 38 degrees during the day based on the weatherzone app. Umpires have been advised to not hesitate to suspend play and not to cave into undue pressure from captains to keep playing where the temperature has exceeded the upper threshold. * The safety of all participants is more important than the match result.

14 Extreme Heat Policy QUESTION What if the competition committee fails in its duty to call games off where the temperatures are forecast to be over the threshold on the day before the game?

15 Extreme Heat Policy * 7am Sunday morning Venue is forecast to be 38 degrees or more, and * Competition management has not yet called off the match, then * Umpire Appointment will be withdrawn If the game goes ahead, it does so without an umpire.
