Jackie Rex November 3, Informative Speech The Great Pacific Garbage Patch I. Introduction- I. Everyday billions of people throw away unused items, old food, wrappers, ratty clothes and all different types of garbage and every year that little big you throw away every day tums into a whopping sixty-five tons (clean air council, 2006). Did you ever wonder where it all goes? Did you ever think of how such a universal conglomerate of pollution effects you, as an individual? Well for starters fourteen million pounds gets dumped straight into your oceans world wide and most of it after months of absorbing and releasing toxic chemicals into our water supplies it all travel along the ocean currents and ends up in +& one place, The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (clean air council, 2006). q Here in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch a giant heap of hazardous materials congeals into a swamp of chemical waste and debris that is ''q consed by our wildlife and is then eventually consumed by us /!#w ' resulting in a wide variety of health and environmental concerns. 11. Body- The composition of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch I. What is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch? a. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch was first discovered about twelve years ago and is also known as the eight continent because of it's massive size (Yun Zhane, Yuan Biao Zhang, Yine. Feng, 2010). The GPGP is a collection of marine trash that has collected in the North Pacific Ocean due to ocean currents. The patch is estimated to be roughly twice the size of Texas at its thickest ad most easily measurable points ( Kaye Cathryn, 2010). The exact size of the patch is unknown because it is constantly changing and expanding on how it is beiig measure. Some specialists don't consider the patch to be on unite because it is broken up on come places, however, d in all the trash composition could easily cover the United States( clean air

Veronica Prieto Coml November 9,20 10 Informative Speech I. Introduction m o d y a "What is the quietest sport to play? Bowling. You can hear a pin drop." (Ziegler 2005p.I 0) b. Fact about bowling i. Bowling is one of the most popular sports in the world today. Over 95 million people enjoy bowling in more than 90 different countries. (Olenjniczak 2008para. 1) c. My personal bowling experiences i. Grew up around bowling with my family ii. Began bowling on my high school's bowling team. d. Thesis- There are many different aspects of bowling. Today you will be informed L. of the history of bowling, tools used when a person is bowling, and a few place where you could go to bowl. ransition - Now, the best way to explain a topic is to understand its history better. a. History of Bowling i. "Bowling balls and pins were found in the tomb of an Egyptian king who died in 5,200 B.C." (Professional Bowling Association, 2010, "History of Bowiing" para. 2)
ii. Bowling was also played throughout Europe in places such as Germany and Britain. (Professional Bowling Association, 2010, "History of Bowling" para. 3) iii. "British kings Edward I1 and Richard I1 banned bowling because they said people were wasting too much time playing the sport." (Professional Bowling Association, 2010, "History of Bowling" para. 3) iv. The game was emerging in America in the late 1800's and early 1900's (The Sports Book 2007 p. 324) v. The first indoor bowling alley was opened in 1840 in New York City. (The Sports Book 2007 p. 325) vi. Today there are many different bowling organizations. To name a few there are the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA), the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) and the British Tenpin Bowling Associated (BTBA) (The Sports Book 2007 p. 325) vii. Video games are now revolutionizing the game of bowling. For example, Brunswiclc, one of the biggest bowling companies, has teamed up with Sony to create a more "serious bowling game". (SchieseI201Opara. 5) Transistion - Knowing the history of the sport is only the fvst step in understanding the game. The next is leaning about the objects one uses when bowling. b. Tools i. The Ball
1. Originally made of all wood, bowling MIS now are composed of plastic, urethane, epoxy or a combination of all three. (The Sports Book 2007 p. 324) 2. ("High-Tech Rollers" 2006para. 2) 3. There are many different weights to bowling balls as well as different designs. 4. Showing a bowling ball and explanation of the finger holes. Transition- Now like any other sport bowling is scored. The score of a game of bowling relies on how many pins a bowler can knock down. ii. The Pins 1. "Bowling pins have minds of their own. They remain standing, smiling at you, even though you rolled a perfect shot... Bowling pins are diabolical." (Joseph 2008 para. 4) 2. Made of hard maple and are 15 inches high(professionai Bowling Association, 2010, ''The Lane and Equipment" para. 2) 3. Piins are arranged in rows with the first row containing one pin, the second two, the third three, and the final row has four pins. The after look is in the shape of a triangle. (Professional Boding Association, 2010, "The Lane and Equipment" pam 2)
2. Small ten lane bowling alley ii. Plaza Lanes 1. Located on Kennedy Ave in Highland, IN 2. Leagues every night of the week. 3. Cosmo bowling on Fridays after 9pm iii. Olympia Lanes 1. Located on Calumet Ave in Hammond, IN 2. Red Pin bowling on Saturday nights at 1 lpm iv. Open bowling, they all have it, just walk in and ask for a lane and a shoe rental.
