3 Importance of Canadian Championships: 2016 Olympics WAG Team Selection Process Canadian Championships is one of a number of competitions in 2016 that can contribute to the points accumulated for Olympic Team selection. The selection process has been circulated and has been established to select the best team for Canada to meet our stated objectives.

4 Objectives of Olympic Selection Process: At least 1 athlete in an Apparatus Final Rank in top 8 teams Rank 1 athlete in top 8, and 1 in top 16 All Around

5 Areas of Emphasis for Senior Team We are building our strength as a team on Vault We need to maintain a strong Bars team and gain consistency over two days of competition (we moved from 4 th in CI to 7 th in CIV). Floor is our weakest event and where we need to improve the greatest in overall D score and reduced execution and artistry deductions. By Canadian Championships D score will continue to be worked but E score must be refined. In May/June the emphasis must be on E score and solid stable performances.

9 HP NOVICE MODELS CLARIFICATIONS BARS CR #2 - minimum two close bar circle elements (minimum B) The model says "excl. B release" the clarification really means "excluding flight"

10 HP NOVICE MODELS CLARIFICATIONS BARS: Bonus: The Canadian bonus principle for Close bar circle element will be awarded only when the entry is done with the proper technique: - with feet together. Please note: if the element receives C as per FIG, it will keep the bonus for the C as per any other element since this technique is not a prerequisite for FIG. It is only the specific Canadian bonus that will require the Canadian direction for technique of the entry.

12 FIG Code of Points Review Time: A total time deduction on BB of 0.4 is possible if a gymnast remounts after 10 sec. and before 60 sec. (-0.3) and then performs a routine exceeding the 1:30 time period (-0.1)

13 FIG Code of Points Review FALL TIME For Canadian Championships the timer should count out loud the fall time as follows: Uneven Bars Count 10, 20, 25, 30.. then 50, 55, 60 (no deduction) (0.3 deduction) Balance Beam Count 1,2,3 up to 10.. then 50, 55, 60 (no deduction) (0.3 deduction)

17 2016 COP Review Vault Warm-up: Consider run approach (attempt) during warm up when: Example 1 Run Up Handspring, then immediately stand on table and salto: - Considered 2 attempts Example 2 Run Up step/jump onto table then salto- Considered 1 attempt Example 3 Any run up on runway is considered an attempt (except run up on runway in the opposite direction to the VT table, before the official first attempt of warmup). 19 2016 COP Review VAULT Kasamatsu Technique: Vaults performed with the Kasamatsu technique belong to Group #3: Tuskahara Description of Pre-flight: Handspring with ¼ - ½ turn ( ) in first flight phase Therefore if the gymnast shows less than 90 turn, the vault will be recognized as a handspring vault, with deductions for: staggered/alternate hand placement for fwd entry vaults EG: Gymnast calls #3.34 (Tsukahara stretched with 2/1 twist); performs less than 90 turn in pre-flight Award #2.33 (Handspring with 1 ½ twist) and deduct for staggered/alternate placement of hands
