1 Simons, Siegling & Cappelmann bound volumes, SCHS# Creator: Simons, Siegling & Cappelmann Description: 32 Linear Feet (48 boxes + 21 oversize volumes) Scope and Content: This collection consists of bound volumes, many of them oversize, relating to the law firm of Simons, Siegling & Cappelmann and its partners. Volumes include cash books, ledgers, letterpress books, receipt books, books of precedents, dockets, day books, and a few indices. A letterpress book ( ), includes correspondence relating to the Percival, Defiance and Sterling Manufacturing companies, of which John D. Cappelmann was a partner. Volumes pertaining to James Simons, Jr. include records (1880s) of legislative bills in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Receipt books relating to personal and legal business contain receipts (pasted in) relating to estates as well as receipts for purchases of goods and services from many businesses in Charleston (S.C.) and elsewhere, for bank transactions, organizational membership dues, etc. Note: Many bound volumes which were originally part of this collection have been moved to the records of Simons & Simons (call no. 0431), and a few have been cataloged separately.
