There will be a scoped and iron sights match for each classification. You will be shooting off a bench rest at a distance of 50 yards. The scoped rifles will shoot 1 round each at 25 very small targets. The iron sights will shoot 5 rounds each at 5 larger targets for a total of 25. Just a reminder...the bench rests must be 2 pieces--the front and rear rests cannot be connected. The match will start at noon, but I should be there about 10 A.M. Let's have a good turnout.

Silent Guns Chatuge Gun Club Board of Directors member, Larry "Bird" Prather, age 60, passed away at his home Thursday, April 15, 2010. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran in the 146 th Infantry.

Everyone that had the pleasure of making Bird s acquaintance recalls his fine sense of humor, kindly disposition and keen tradin skills.

3 Silent Guns Chatuge Gun Club Board of Directors member, Larry "Bird" Prather, age 60, passed away at his home Thursday, April 15, He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran in the 146 th Infantry. Larry was a charter member and past President of the Chatuge Gun Club, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked as a Postal Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service since the early 1970's. Everyone that had the pleasure of making Bird s acquaintance recalls his fine sense of humor, kindly disposition and keen tradin skills. Bird touched many lives every day with his smiles & laughs, jokes & good humor. Another sure way to make Bird s day was if he could make you laugh. Bird was the kind of guy you d love to joke with but watch out cause he d come right back at you. He was a good friend to the club and its members, always remembering the original goal of our founding club members, to provide a safe place to enjoy and participate in the shooting sports and the camaraderie that accompanies those activities. He was the way a real friend is supposed to be always there when you needed someone to help or talk to. Bird loved kids if he could show a child how to shoot, hunt or fish, then that made his day, even his week. He cared so much about having people enjoy nature and wildlife. Our condolences to his soul mate, Karen McKin of Young Harris, GA, and brother, Kevin Prather of Blairsville, GA. We all will miss Bird. Adieu my friend. The 2009 Shootist Award George Dazy Perry is the 2009 Chatuge Gun Club Shootist of the year. He beat out the second place by 20 points. Here are the results for the top 16 Competitors. 4 28 th Anniversary 2010 Chatuge Gun Club Annual Meeting The 2010 Annual meeting was held Tuesday, 20 April at the Anderson Music Hall at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. More than 400 were in attendance and enjoyed the fine food catered by Brenda Swanson, the music provided by the Hiawassee Opry Band; the Swap Table manned by Larry Sorgen and paid their 2010 dues at the same time. Following the Pledge of Allegiance we were treated to a special presentation of the National Anthem played on a fiddle by Alex Thomlinson, a 15-year-old fiddler from Suches GA A few words from NRA EVP, Wayne LaPierre and the Grandson of Club Member Cheryll Thomlinson. A few guests were introduced and the Guest Speaker for the evening was Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Rifle Association. The speaker was followed by a short club meeting which included an election of officers. Guess what? We re all back!!! Door prizes were given out including 2 guns and other good stuff. In all it was a memorable evening and if you missed it: You snooze You Lose. 5 SAFETY..First, Last, and Always A continuing refresher course presented by: Nelson Fagan & Gene Blackburn These will be the last two rules of the Chatuge Gun Club. Hopefully, these articles will help to fully explain our rules and there will be no confusion as to their interpretation. Rule #2. When the range is cold all firearms shall be on the bench or in racks with magazines out and the actions open. No firearms will remain loaded or be handled for any reason while people are down range. This includes sight adjustments as well as moving firearms to or from the firing line for any reason. This seems simple enough but on a few occasions, a few shooters don t understand this. To put it bluntly, when you see people ahead of the firing line, you don t touch your gun for any reason. Seems simple enough, won t you agree? The second part of the rule states that when people are down range, your gun will be unloaded with the magazine out and the action open. It does not say that you can have the action open but with a full magazine or the under barrel tube loaded and in the gun. In short, an empty gun means there are no shells in the gun period. Rule # 10 All guests will be accompanied by a club member. Guests actions and safety are the responsibility of the club member. Club members have priority use of shooting positions and host members and guests will shoot from one firing line position. Remember, you as a member of the Chatuge Gun Club are responsible for seeing that your guest follows the rules with no exceptions. There are a few members that when taking a guest to the range will go over the range rules with them prior to any shooting but that does not always happen. Also, it seems that guests are the ones that give you the most guff when a rule infraction is pointed out to them. We have no limitations as far as the number of guests but it doesn t seem possible that a member can bring up six guests and watch them all at once. Again, these rules apply to everyone not just members. To say that you can violate a range rule because you are a captain in the Dekalb Police Dept. doesn t hold water but a guest actually used this excuse when a violation was pointed out to him. NOW THEN Often when a new member of the club signs up at our meeting there is always a lot going on and even though the new member signs the rules, he may not take the time to fully digest the rules. It is hoped, that by putting just a couple of rules in the news letter at a time, that members will have the opportunity to study the rules in a more relaxed setting such as sitting in their living room at home. May your days at the range be successful and safe. REMEMBER: Your gate key will not work after 0800 hrs 1 June The new key has a 0 stamped on the side opposite the number. If there is a 9 on the shank on the side with the number, that is last year s key. Be sure to come to the May meeting if you have not picked up your new key and paid your 2010 dues yet. Time s a getting short.
