2 Recognition At the 2014 Trout Unlimited Annual Meeting in Santa Fe, NM, Colorado TU was recognized with the prestigious State Council Award for Excellence. The selection committee cited a variety of noteworthy accomplishments, but highlighted the organization's landmark victories on the Upper Colorado. Colorado TU President Rick Matsumoto proudly accepted the award on the organization's behalf, noting that this was a team award with many of the key players present. From L to R: Executive Director David Nickum, Vice President Marshall Pendergrass, President Rick Matsumoto, Outreach Coordinator Stephanie Scott, Youth Coordinator Garrett Hanks, and National Leadership Council Representative Tom Jones. Administrative Assistant Shannon Kindle and Immediate Past President Sinjin Eberle were also recognized. When the State Council Award for Excellence was introduced 10 years ago, Colorado TU was the inaugural winner. Tom Krol was President at the time and Collegiate Peaks Anglers Chapter member Steve Craig was Colorado's representative on the National Leadership Council.

What is unique with this survey is that it offers an anglers perspective to issues relative to water quality, evidence of insect hatches, growth rates and populations of trout.

6 Michael Harrington Editor Collegiate Peaks Anglers will meet periodically on the second Wednesday (except in May) The meetings alternate between Salida and Buena Vista. The Board of Directors Strategic Planning Meeting have altered this years meetings. The e-letter will continue monthly, announcing up-coming meetings, programs, events, in the EVENTS CALENDAR. Member submissions to the newsletter are needed and encouraged. Have a comment? Opinion? Humor? Viewpoint? Share it, INTHE SEAM. Anything relative to fishing will appear now and then. Send by or regular mail. Editor's deadline is the 23rd of the month. Questions or e- mail mikeebluedun@ ridgeviewtel. us. The FlyGals The Collegiate Peak Anglers Chapter of TU has an awesome group of ladies in their ranks - the FlyGals. FlyGals host great events like Companion Fishing, where more experienced women fly fishers are paired with more novice women for a day of fly-fishing, and River Fishing, where each woman has a "river helper" (often a member of Collegiate Peaks Anglers) to serve as a "guide" for a morning of fly fishing on the Arkansas River.water fishing. In the summer the FlyGals get together for trips What is required of each angler is straight forward information of the location, size, and type of fly used to catch Brown, Rainbow, or the recently introduced Hofer strain of Rainbow trout. The tools you will need to maintain accuracy in all reports is to carry a small notebook and pencil to measure and record the size of all trout, noting the clipped fin of the Hofer strain of Rainbows, the date, type and size of fly used, water temperature and location of where each trout was caught and released. If you love gadgets, I recommend an infra-red water temperature meter and a GPS tool to record the coordinates of your location. As with any survey the time and accuracy of your reports are most important. However, it is important to note that this survey is not for federally funded projects, but is more anecdotal and providing supporting evidence to existing Parks and Wildlife restoration efforts. Please report your information of: Date: Size & species of each trout. (Rainbow, Brown, or Hofer.) Location: Type & size of fly (optional) Water temperature (use a tape ruler, GPS and infra-red device for accuracy, if possible.) Send to:

7 from high mountain lakes fishing for native cutthroats to private water on the Arkansas. With over 30 women currently on the roster, FlyGals is a great testament to women on the rise in fly fishing! For more information or to join the FlyGals list, please contact Barbara Plake at bplake1@unl.edu FlyGals 2014 Activities Schedule 2014 Year-in-Review for FlyGals FlyGals have had a terrific year with 6 activities so far and over 40 women participating. We have also had a lot of fun. Our last event of the year is a "Year-in-Review" wine and cheese activity on Saturday, October 18 from 4:00-6:30 at Karen Dils' house (29940 CR 353E in Buena Vista). In addition to a social event, we will view photos from all of our 2014 activities, and talk about ideas for making 2015 even better for FlyGals. Contact Barbara Plake ( ; bplake@unl.edu) for more information. Details for each event are on the FlyGals Facebook page: Collegiate Peaks Anglers FlyGals Collegiate Peaks Anglers Newsletter and Website: Barbara Plake and Dominique Narracato, 2014 FlyGals Co-Chairs Marjie Gray and Tracy Craig, FlyGals Planning Committee Fishing Quote "Water, in short, is all. More than anything it is that glinting, tantalizing horizontal veil, the surface of water dividing so absolutely one realm from another, which gives angling it's mystery, it's magic, it's endless speculation." Ken Iwamasa iwamasa@colorado.edu PO Box 374 Poncha springs, CO rise River Lore From stem to stern what do you learn when not a fish will to your disguise. You look where you began, change flies, start again. Physically strong, mentally spent, a thousand casts, nary a dent. Every sport has its unknown, don't complain, moan or groan. The next day just might reward you and your results will be shown. Michael C.
