Membership Application Alex Ramirez Outdoor Specialty Products Sage, Outcast, Rio Demonstrations Our speaker this month will be Alex Ramirez. He will have the latest Sage rods and Rio fly lines. The meeting will be starting early so you can cast the Sage fly rods on the dock behind the clubhouse. We will be there at 5:30 pm to cast from the dock. After everyone has had a chance to cast the rods we will have our raffle then Alex will talk about the products and tell stories of being a representative for Outdoor Specialty Products. 2 Membership The Membership Directory has been published. We are still accepting this year s Club Due. Parking Permits Required for Our Meeting Night President s Message For the next two months we will be doing something different, we have Alex Ramirez a representative from Sage, Rio and Outcast. Next Month we will have Hutch Hutchison from Orvis showing off the Orvis line up and telling stories. Alex Ramirez from Outdoor Specialty Products is our speaker this month. Alex will be showing us the new Sage, Rio and Outcast line ups. We will be there at 5:30 so you can try some of the Sage rods out. About 7:00 pm we will be having our regular meeting with the raffle. Then Alex will be telling us stories about his adventures being a representative for Sage, Rio, and Outcast. Everyone that attends the meeting will be getting a store coupon from The Grizzly Hackle Bob Marriott s Fly Fishing for 25% off their next purchase. Then in August we will have George Daniel as our speaker. George was on the USA Fly Fishing team. Be sure to ask for a 2016 blue Parking Permit when attending the monthly meetings. Per the City ordinance, all vehicles parked in the parking lots at Fairmount Park from dusk until dawn, without a permit will be ticketed. There is limited parking available in front of our clubhouse. Overflow Parking is available directly across the street at the Fairmount Park Golf Course. Fly Tying Before the Meetings Clark Stevens will be tying flies before our meetings. Clark will be there at 4:00pm for those early arrivals, but will be tying until the meetings starts. Clark will be able to answer any questions you want ask about fly tying before the meetings. This can be a beginning question or any other technique that stumps you in your fly tying. 2

The club owns the software Microsoft Publisher that we use to do the newsletter. We will train you on how to use it. This job takes about a day or two to do or a weekend. We will show you how to set up the text boxes and add photos. You will be cutting and pasting in the text boxes. We need someone to take over by May. If you are interested please talk to Ken Rhodes, Art Santore, or Gary Applebee at the meeting so we can start training you before the May deadline. Conservation We are teaming up with Trout Unlimited (TU) on a conservation project in the local San Bernadino and San Jacinto Mountains. Our local mountains are in Region 6 of the CADFW. This is the largest Region in the state. The CADFW has only one Coldwater Fisheries Biologist and she is in Bridgeport. She can not monitor our streams and creeks from Bridgeport. Deep Creek Fly Fishers has partnered with TU to do Drought Monitoring Surveys of the waters we fish. We have talked to the CADFW and they think it would be helpful for us to collect data in the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains. we need people to go fish Deep Creek, Bear Creek, Santa Ana River, Holcomb Creek, and other waters in our local mountins. There is a data sheet on the Deep Creek website. You have to go to Conservation, on the drop down menu click on the Angler Drought Monitoring. Everything is there, an Intro PDF, Training PDF, and Form to download and fill out.

6 Fly Tying Night A few of us have been talking about trying to get together to tie flies at the clubhouse. We just want to tie some flies up, nothing very organized. Just a night to tie flies and BS, figure out a fly you want to tie. If you want a snack or munchies and something to drink bring it. Bring the tools and materials for that fly. One of the guys has already said he needed a fly for the Firehole River. Another guy said he has a great fly pattern for that. They are going to tie that fly. If you are a beginner wanting to learn how to tie flies, come and someone will help you tie a simple fly. At the end of the night we are going to ask everyone to pick the best fly they tied. We will save these for the Holiday Banquet Fly Auction. The next night will be Thursday, July 14th at 7pm. Then we will meet the second Thursday of every month ending in October. SWCIFFF NEWS SWCIFFF Communications Director Are you a Hemmingway? An Erdrich? Like to spin a yard in writing? We have a need for you! The Southwest Council continues to expand its presence in various media forms and we need someone who loves to write. Sometimes it will be about conservation and other times about a Council event. Your help means we can get the word out far and wide as our releases have been on the radio and print ads in California and beyond. We call this job our Communications Director and here is what you would be doing- 1. Using material we provide to you to craft an article or news release. 2. Using your own material to do more of the same. 3. Sending this information to media outlets and the clubs of the SWC for their newsletters. This is a Board position and as such, you also get to help drive the direction of the Council. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact me by or phone at any time. Other positions in the council Kurt Marcks and Greg La Polla tying up their super secret flies. Our biggest problem is having enough people that are willing to help out. That allows the Council to devote more time to fly fishing outreach and getting more people involved in our sport. And hopefully involved in YOUR club! Remember, we are not asking you to devote tons of hours per month. 1-2 would make such a difference. 6

Participants do not have to be members of the IFFF, just a current member if a SWC club. We are asking that the newsletter editor of each club, to please include information regarding the contest and its link in their upcoming club newsletters. Another option would be to forward the information directly to all of your club members. Attached are the contest rules and entry forms for the three tying divisions.
