Troy NJROTC is again hosting the 2014 Troy JROTC Athletic Field Meet. This friendly annual competition will be held on Saturday, September 20, This is going to be an extremely fun day, with opportunities to make many new friends. This is a great way to get new eager cadets involved with your program before they have mastered military drill. The entry fee remains only $100 (payable to Troy NJROTC Booster Club ). 2. Quick summary: trophies to be awarded start your year off with some BLING! - September 20 is one year later than last year. - Reminder: Bus parking is only available in the front of the school. 3. The LOI is very similar to last year. Changes: - The point value for tug of war is the SAME as other events. - Number of throws for the football toss was changed from 7 to 4 per cadet. - Board walk course shortened from 20 yds to 15 yds. - Rope Bridging changed from 7 to 6 cadets, 4 to cross vice 5, 1 female vice 2. A copy of this LOI will be posted on the Troy NJROTC website, 4. Food: a. Schools are encouraged to purchase plate lunches. Tickets are $6 if you RSVP for the lunches by Sep 17 (this is a Troy fund raiser). Lunches are $7 for late RSVPs and on the day of the event. RSVP tickets may be paid when you check-in for registration. b. Schools may also bring their own food and drinks. Please do NOT sell food or drinks. c. There will be water ($1) and Gatorade ($1.50) available throughout the day for sale. d. Cases of water may be purchased for $15.

2 e. There will be breakfast foods available for sale on a limited basis. f. There will be a complimentary Instructors table in the NJROTC classroom (room 402) which will include coffee to get you started in the morning! 5. Schedule: Time Event Remarks Schools arrive at Troy Bus parking in FRONT of the school. Limited locker availability in locker rooms. Recommend wearing PT gear to Troy if possible. First Aid: Troy will have two first aid stations set up, one in the NJROTC classroom (room 402) and by the soccer field (middle of athletic events). The nearest hospital is the St. Jude Medical Center, at the intersection of Bastanchury and Harbor, 3 miles from Troy. We will have a nurse on site for any first aid situations. Remind your cadets to HYDRATE and use SUN SCREEN! 7. Event Scoring: Enclosure (2) details the points being awarded for each event and the breaking of overall event ties. Individual ties will be broken by a head-to-head competition for that event prior to the awards ceremony. Enclosures (3) through (6) are the score sheets. Bracket assignments including volleyball game times and tug of war pulls are included in enclosure (6). 8. Awards: Trophies will be awarded to the TOP 10 TEAMS overall. Event trophies will be for the TOP 10 in all events except Volleyball and Tug of War (TOP 8). Troy NJROTC will compete in every event, but will not be eligible for trophies. The overall first place unit will also take home the perpetual Troy Cup for one year. The unit s name will be added onto the trophy as that year s winner. Narbonne, the 2013 champion, must bring back the trophy to the 2014 Troy JROTC Athletic Field Meet to defend their title. There will also be awards for the schools who exhibit the best Sportsmanship and for the Best Spirit. 9. A stand-by list of schools beyond 32 will be maintained. Throughout the day, all events are first come, first served except for volleyball, running relays, and tug of war. Let the games begin! 3 EVENT RULES 1. Rules of Engagement: a. Cadets may compete in more than one event, but teams must have all team members present prior to starting an event. b. Events will be conducted where possible with at least 2 schools competing simultaneously to enhance everyone s competitive spirit. c. Timed events will be to the 100 th second. 2. Running Relay Events ( ). All relays will be held on the Troy football field/track. I yd relay run: 12 person team (6 males and 6 females). Fastest time wins. This a 100 yard relay with 6 cadets on each side. Cadets will pass a baton to each other. A 5 second penalty will be given for each cadet that cross over start line prior to receiving baton. If baton is dropped, the passing cadet MUST pick up baton. If any other cadet picks up baton, there will be a 5 second penalty. All spikes and cleats are prohibited. II. 3/4 mile relay: 6 person team (3 males and 3 females). This is a 3 lap relay with each cadet running 220 yards. There is a 10 yard passing lane. No penalty for dropped baton, but only the cadets involved can retrieve the baton. Fastest time wins. All spikes and cleats are prohibited. Interference or passing batons beyond the passing zone are 5 second penalties. 3. Athletic Events: Events must be finished prior to 1430 to count. Bracket will be ed separately 1 week prior and will be posted on the Troy website. II. III. IV. Push-ups: 5-cadet team, with a minimum of 2 females. Standard Navy push-ups with the upper arm parallel to the ground when in the down position and the elbows locked when in the up position, maximum correct form push-ups done in 2 minutes. Shakeouts permitted, but once the chest/knees hit the ground, the cadets are DONE. Team score is the total push-ups completed by the team. Cadets from another school must count the push-ups. Sit-ups: 5-cadet team, with a minimum of 2 females. Maximum sit-ups in 2 minutes. Team score equals total sit-ups for the entire team. You may rest in the up or down position. Hands on the shoulders, both elbows must touch the mid-thigh, and the shoulder blades must touch the ground each time. One warning for incorrect form, cadets are DONE if told a second time. Cadets of the same gender from another school will hold the ankles. Board Walk: 5-cadet team of first year cadets with minimum of 2 females. Boards are two 6-foot planks with rope handholds for team members. Competition is for the team to walk together through a 15-yard course around obstacles. Teams must start behind the start line, and time stops when either board touches the finish line. Quickest overall time wins. Teams are encouraged to compete against another school. V. Boat Paddle: 7-cadet team. Minimum of 3 females. Paddle a Combat Rigid Raiding Craft (CRRC) boat in the pool with the coxswain touching 5 cones in sequence while holding to a rope in the stern. Disqualification is any cadet who falls in the water. Quickest overall time wins. VI. Frisbee Golf: 4 cadet team. Minimum of 2 females. The course consists of 3 holes. Each team member will complete the course by tossing the Frisbee toward the hole (box) and counting the number of tosses for each hole. The team score is the total number of Frisbee tosses for the entire team. VII. Football Throw: 5 cadet team. Minimum of 2 females. Each cadet will get 4 tries to throw football through a target. For each football that goes through the target the team will get 1 point with the max being 25. In case of a tie, the teams will have a throw off. VIII. Torpedo Run: 10 person team with minimum of 4 females. Course will be 25 yards one-way and 5 yards wide. First cadet will line up on start line in the push-up position starting a tunnel. At the start the next cadet will sniper crawl through the cadet and get in push up position next to the first cadet locking arms, as soon as the feet of the cadet sniper crawling pass the first cadet in the tunnel, the next cadet can start. Once all 9 cadets have gone through the first cadet, that first cadet will break off and tunnel through forming up at the end as part of the tunnel and so on (same foot rule applies). When the last cadet passes through the torpedoed ship time will stop. Cadets must maintain a side-by-side continuous tunnel (cadets must have arms interlocked). If a cadet starts too soon, they will sniper crawl backwards to restart from their push-up position. 5 second penalty for going out of bounds. 2 Encl (1)

5 IX. Endurance Station Relay: 5 person team with minimum of 2 females. Course consists of a 660 year run (1.5 laps) with 4 exercise stations and a 220 yd sprint. Each member starts at their respective station. Faster overall time wins. - Station 1: 10 incline push-ups (hands on the ground, feet up on a bench) then run a ¼ lap to tag cadet #2. - Station 2: 20 jumping jacks then run a ¼ lap to tag cadet #3. - Station 3: 10 mountain climbers (hands on the ground, feet alternating from under the chest to extended behind their body) then run a ¼ lap to tag cadet #4. - Station 4: 10 six count body builders (stand, squat, feet out, push-up, squat, stand) then run a ¼ lap to tag cadet #5. - Station 5: Sprint ½ lap. X. Extreme Leap Frog (or Over/Under Relay): 8 person team with minimum of 3 females. Course will be 30 yards one-way. First cadet will line up on start line in a standing position. The second cadet will crawl between the legs of the first cadet and stop one arm length away in the opposite position of the cadet before them (in the squatting position). Then the next cadet will crawl under the first cadet, leap over the second cadet then leap over and stop one arm length away in the opposite position of the cadet before them (in the standing position) and so on. Once all cadets are on the course the last cadet in line (the starting cadet) will start his leaping and crawling through the other cadets and so on. The relay will end when any cadet crosses the finish line. Cadets who are greater than one arm length away from their adjacent cadets will be sent to the back of the line. XI. Dizzy Izzy Relay: 10 cadet team with minimum of 4 females. 20-yard dash to bat, then 5 complete spins with head down on end of bat, then 20-yard dash back to tag next team member. Runner coming back from spinning must hand touch the next runner behind start line. Bat must stay on the ground throughout the event and foreheads must touch the bat/hands or the spins will not count. Quickest overall time wins. XII. Wheel Barrow Race: 10-cadet team with minimum of 4 females. 15-yard dash, then switch partners at the turn-around point. Next pair starts when the previous pair touches the start line. Quickest overall time wins. XIII. Rope Bridging: 6-cadet team. 4 cadets to cross, including 1 female. Swiss seats tied before clock starts. The rope bridge will remain tied throughout the day. Teams are only responsible for traversing the bridge. Time starts with the first cadet on the ground, all 5 will swim the river, and the time stops when the 5 th cadet is on the ground. One cadet is pre-staged at either end of the bridge to assist cadets on and off the bridge. These two cadets do not have to cross the bridge. Gloves may be used, but no other equipment may be used beyond the provided gear. 15-second penalties each for touching the ground (river) between the cones. Quickest overall time wins. 4. TUG OF WAR ( ) 10 cadets with a minimum of 4 females. Single elimination, gloves permissible, but no cleats. Winners continue per the elimination bracket. Mooring hawser is the tug-ofwar line. Each team will start with all cadets in a push-up position alternating on each side of the line. Elimination bracket is attached and posted on the Troy NJROTC website. 3 Encl (1)

6 Competition Scoring and Final Point Standing 1 st Place Overall Sportsmanship 2 nd Place Overall 3 rd Place Overall 4 th Place Overall Best Spirit 5 th Place Overall 6 th Place Overall 7 th Place Overall 8 th Place Overall 9 th Place Overall 10 th Place Overall Event Scoring: For each competition, except for tug-of-war and volleyball, the following points will be awarded: 20 points for 1 st, 18 points for 2 nd, 16 points for 3 rd, 14 point for 4 th, 12 points for 5 th, 10 points for 6 th, 8 points for 7 th, 6 points for 8 th, 4 points for 9 th, 3 points for 10 th, 2 points for 11 th, 1 point for 12 th Volleyball and Tug-of-War points are: 20 points for first place, 18 points for second, 16 points for 3 rd, 14 points for 4 th, 10 points for teams who lose in the 3 rd round, 5 points for teams who lose in the 2 nd round In the event of a tie, - The unit scoring the highest in the 12x100/Sit Ups/Push Ups combined points will win. - If a tie still exists, the unit which placed higher in the tug-of-war wins. - If a tie still exists after that, a coin will be flipped. The maximum points for the day are 320 points. Encl (2)
