2 FROM THE MANAGER We had two settlements this month so I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Grange Community to warmly welcome Maureen and Stuart who will be shortly moving into The Grange and Olive and John who are in the process of moving also. We wish all of you the best in your new homes and hope this next chapter in your lives brings good health, much happiness and many new friendships. I have a special request from the Maintenance Department to ask residents if they have any spare original tiles (wall and floor) or original pavers in their garages or sheds. There is a shortage of spares and in some case no stock at all for repairs. If you don t mind checking it would be greatly appreciated. If you can assist, please contact the office or speak to one of the team. We had a rather lengthy committee meeting last Monday. If you missed the meeting, I suggest you make sure you read the Minutes as there is a lot of information to absorb, particularly in relation to the McQuoin Park Development which is about to commence. It s that time of the year when I start focussing on the next budget. Over the next couple of months, I will be obtaining quotes, carrying out inspections, consulting with the Committee and crunching the numbers in preparation for our Budget Information Meeting scheduled to be held on Monday, 18 th April, I encourage all Owners to diarise the date now and the same goes for the AGM which will be held on Monday 23 rd May, These are two meetings not to be missed. Dr. Bronwyn Edwards is having a Flu Vaccination Clinic on Friday, 11 th March. Anyone interested can add their name to the list which can be found on the Nurse s Office door and in the Doctor s Surgery. Parking on McAuley Place is going to be difficult from next week and we will be governing our visitor s car spaces more carefully to cater for our Grange contractors and guests. If you see anyone illegally parking in the visitors spaces, please let me know asap. I also ask residents to be mindful of By-Law 2 - (An owner or occupier of a lot must not park or stand any motor or other vehicle on common property except with the prior written approval of the Owners Corporation). There are some exciting events on the horizon which you might be interested to attend and you will notice as you turn the pages, Grange News has a slightly different format which we hope will make it more user-friendly. We welcome any feedback! Kindest regards Mary Whitmore

3 LIFESTYLE REPORT JANUARY 2016 The Grange was in party mode for Christmas and New Year. The popular staff Christmas drinks and nibbles afternoon was well attended on 23 December and the staff were thrilled to be handed out end of year bonus letters. We are very fortunate to have such a loyal group of people dedicated to making the Grange such a wonderful place to live. In the evening about fifty residents wandered around the village admiring the Christmas lights in owners' gardens and some living rooms. Thank you so much for inviting us. Drinks and refreshments were waiting outside the Steins' house, thanks to those living nearby, and carols were sung as we gazed at Fay s nativity scene. Many of the people continued strolling around and eventually finished up at the home of Don and Maureen for coffee and cake. It was a delightful evening with perfect weather and everyone went home feeling very happy. On New Year's Eve some people arrived early and went home after the 9pm fireworks. Others came later as the variety of entertainment continued. Twenty six revellers watched the midnight fireworks with the most stalwart being Bill and Madeline who were there from start to finish. Not quite as many residents managed to get to the pool and surrounds on New Year's Day, but those who did enjoyed a swim, a chat and a barbecue on a glorious summer afternoon and evening. The charity Trivia night was almost too popular with a very crowded room, but eager participants and great prizes contributed magnificently to the Lantern Club which supports the Deaf and Blind School in North Rocks. Now the Christmas decorations have been put away it is lovely to see the summer season of flowers filling Grange House. Many thanks to Fay and Kathy for their arrangements. They even kindly rearranged a couple of them last week, with wattle and waratahs in preparation for Australia Day. I m sure you will all agree they look absolutely spectacular. It always surprises me that not everyone reads Grange News or takes note of dates as so often people seem unprepared when events take place. On 9 February Stafford Fashions will be having their annual sale and Tina Hyman & White Pepper will be holding their stalls including jewellery, handbags & accessories on 23 February. Our carol singing on 23rd showed there are some enthusiastic singers at the Grange so there is more opportunity to exercise your vocal chords on Wednesday 10 February at a "sing-a-long" accompanied by visiting pianist Ann Flegg. No skills needed, just come for the enjoyment. The 35th Anniversary Book team is gathering material from various people. The deadline for material is 31 March so please put your memories on paper, handwritten or typed so we can get some idea of the content in the near future. Christine

15 THE GRANGE CROQUET NEWS for 2016 A Happy New Year to all our Croquet players and a very warm welcome to the many new players! Thanks to the big effort by John Fogarty, Lorraine Heffernan and Fay Shakeshaft, our coaches, we now have many new residents playing our wonderful game will be a busy year on the green. Starting on WEDNESDAY the 6 TH OF APRIL during SENIOR S WEEK, along with the bowlers we will be holding our fist GALA DAY. We plan to have a winners/losers competition on that day. Details to come at a later date. On Thursday 14 th of April at 3.30pm we will be holding our AGM to elect a committee for the year and to get some new ideas from our players. Please come along with your plans. Throughout MAY the first of three competitions will be held, THE SEEDED PAIRS. A notice will be posted and a draw made nearer the time. The second GALA DAY of the year will be held on Friday May 27 th.with drinks and nibbles. During the month of JULY the SINGLES will be played followed by the SELECTED PAIRS in SEPTEMBER. Details of these events will be out during the year but maybe the dates can go in the diary. Our LAST event before the lawn is closed in November will be a GALA DAY on FRIDAY the 28 TH.of OCTOBER. And finally our presentation day with the bowlers in early DECEMBER. A busy year ahead. BOOKING OF THE LAWN As stated earlier, we have a large number of new players wishing to book for their games. Many may not know the method of booking and the rules set out. 1. Because of ongoing maintenance by our wonderful staff, bookings cannot be made before 9am and also on the days that the lawn is closed for spraying etc. These days are marked in the booking book. 2. If you wish to play at a particular time your name must be written in the book provided. Only the players with their names booked at a particular time will have use of the lawn. If you book in advance, (as many do), and will not be playing please CANCEL so others can enjoy a game. 3. So that bookings can run smoothly, please make bookings on the hour i.e. 9.00am, 10.00am and so on. This will help solve a problem which now exists. Thank you for your co-operation. Have a great year and looking forward to seeing you on our wonderful green, The Croquet Committee
