2 JUNIOR A NORTH FINAL LEAGUE WINNERS 2013 Nenagh Éire Óg battled their way to a two-point win over a determined Borris-Ileigh side at Dolla on Sunday evening in the North Tipperary Junior A hurling league final. Having played with the aid of a stiff breeze in the opening half Éire Óg led 0-8 to 0-3 at the break, but dug in superbly, late in the second half, when Borris-Ileigh closed the gap to two points. Indeed, Éire Óg were very good value for this win with captain Eoin Fitzgibbon collecting the league trophy for the third successive year. Early points from David Hackett (free) and Paul Ryan helped Éire Óg into an early lead before Borris-Ileigh responded in kind. Two David Hackett points fired Éire Óg into a 0-4 to 0-2 lead by the 13th minute and even though Borris-Ileigh managed a response points from Brian Quinn and David Hackett (free) forced Éire Óg into a 0-6 to 0-3 lead by the 20th minute. In the 24th minute Bob O Brien was denied a certain goal by a superb save from the Borris- Ileigh keeper. Éire Óg closed out the opening half with points from Gary Howard and Andrew Coffey to lead 0-8 to 0-3 at the break. Two quick Borris-Ileigh points immediately after the interval closed the gap significantly before a David Hackett free settled Éire Óg in the 34th minute: 0-9 to 0-5. A Borris-Ileigh point reduced the Blues lead to three points, but Éire Óg responded with two David Hackett frees to lead 0-11 to 0-6 with eighteen minutes to play. Two Borris-Ileigh frees cut the Éire Óg lead significantly before an Andrew Coffey flick in the 47th minute bounced agonisingly wide of the Borris-Ileigh goal. A minute later Donnacha Quinn scored a vital point for Éire Óg before two Borris-Ileigh points closed the gap to a very manageable two points (0-12 to 0-10) with four minutes to play. Éire Óg stood their ground manfully in the closing minutes with a late David Hackett effort from play forcing the Blues into a three-point lead. Borris-Ileigh did manage another point, but the Éire Óg defence refused to cough up a late goal-scoring opportunity. Nenagh Éire Óg: Kevin Flynn, Donnacha Heffernan, John O Donoghue, Michael Collins, Adam Grattan, Niall Cahill, Eoin Fitzgibbon (captain), Alan Kelly, Andrew Coffey (0-1), David Hackett (0-8, 0-5 frees), Brian Maxwell, Paul Ryan (0-1), Gary Howard (0-1), Bob O Brien, Brian Quinn (0-1). Subs: (38th) Darragh Walsh for Gary Howard, (38th) Donnacha Quinn (0-1) for Brian Maxwell, (51st) James Mackey for Andrew Coffey. Eoin Fitzgibbon Captain 2013 Junior A League Winners

NENAGH SEND SARS PACKING Nenagh Eire Óg pulled off the major shock of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship first round on Sunday evening as they knocked out Munster Champions Thurles Sarsfields. Few gave Eire Óg much chance against the highly rated champions but the Nenagh lads produced their best display of the year to progress to the next round and do so on merit Nenagh Guardian. 4 BLAST FROM THE PAST! 1991 MINOR COUNTY WIN On November 10, 1991 Nenagh Eire Óg captured the county minor title for only the fourth time in our history after a comprehensive victory over West champions Knockavilla Kickhams on a score line of 4-10 to The blues gave such a fantastic display of hurling that the late Gerry Slevin was moved to write that "the Nenagh team stepped up a gear or two from their first half performance to bewitch and bewilder the West champions, who were fortunate not to be more in arrears at the call of time" and "there was something approaching arrogance in the play of Fergal Hynes, Robbie Tomlinson and goalkeeper Christy McLoughlin". Despite the wind and rain in the first half "the Nenagh team opened their shoulders" and put in performance "that in the end it was hardly a contest, and lacked the excitement of a drama filled finish". Eire Óg were "like thoroughbreds on a tight rein waiting for the race proper, unleashed a sustained burst of skill, speed, innovation and finishing that turned what might have been a final of interest and potential shock into a near rout". At half time Nenagh led 2-03 to 0-03 with first half goals coming from Brendan Shanahan and Declan O Meara. So good was the build up to O Meara's strike that it was described as "a goal that appeared to have been planned on the training strip of MacDonagh Park". Shortly after the restart O Meara bagged his second goal "with the panache of a more senior hurler". Not to be outdone Robbie Tomlinson scored his own delightful goal after he "took off on a forty yard run, leaving defenders floundering in his wake and his fierce drive from 25 yards was a winner all the way". Tomlinson added the fourth goal after a fantastic clearance from Christy McLoughlin found its way to Robbie and he duly dispatched it to the net. "It was an impressive performance by Eire Óg captain Fergal Hynes, with Robbie Tomlinson, Christy McLoughlin and Declan O Meara all turning in superlative displays. Hynes was the pillar of a great defence, Tomlinson's composure never faltered as he roamed wide and far in search of a scores, McLoughlin won the hearts of the crowd with a string of saves and a flamboyant display of goalkeeping, with O Meara a delight with his goal poaching". Eire Óg: Christy McLoughlin, Rory Flannery, David Creamer, David McAuliffe, Frank, Fergal Hynes, Shane Connolly, John Tucker, Mervyn Scanlon, Robbie Tomlinson (1-05), Brendan Shanahan (1-00), Padraic O Kennedy (0-01), Kevin Tucker (0-03), Kevin Coonan, Declan O Meara (2-01). 5 NENAGH MAN COACHES LIMERICK HURLERS TO SUCCESS On Sunday June 9th, the Tipperary hurlers came undone in the Munster semi-final against a well prepared and determined Limerick team on a score line of 1-18 to While most Nenagh people were upset by the loss, one Nenagh man was smiling like a Cheshire cat. Donach O Donnell, who was a panelist with the Éire Óg Senior County Championship winning PLAY THE CLUB LOTTO WE ALL WIN The Nenagh Éire Óg Club Lotto has been in operation for many years now and has provided the club with vital funds that help us run our various teams, maintain our grounds, club house and help promote Gaelic Games in our community. 6 U14 A NORTH FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS Under 14A North Football Final Winning Panel from left to right, back row, Fiachra Starr, Evan Murphy, Alan Manning, Shane Flynn, Mark O Farrell, Cian O Brien, Conor Bonnar, Ethan O Brien, Luke O Carroll, Scott O Brien, Fiachra Carey, Daniel O Donavan, Killian Malone, Conor O Sullivan. Front row, Daniel Molamphy, Aaron White, Seán Shanahan, Peter Folan, (Captain), Jake Morris, Conor MacCarthy, Barry Coffey, Seán McTiernan, Mark Carey, Albert Purcell, Stephen Hallinan, Dylan Cleary. Our under-14a footballers brought the first silverware of the season to the juvenile club on Monday May 27th when they collected the north title thanks to a 3-8 to 1-2 win over Borrisokane at Kilcolman. It was their third meeting this year so the teams were no strangers to each other. Nenagh lost out to them in the Féile Football but learned a lot from that match, going on to have an unbeaten run in the league which included a good win away to Borrisokane. It was a more competitive match than the score line might tell, but Éire Óg accuracy in front of the goal kept daylight between the teams. Congratulations to captain, Peter Folan and the team on a great win. This win propelled them into the County Semi-Final in Templemore the following weekend against a very strong Galtee Rovers side. The West Tipp side started brightest and before Nenagh had time to settle into their game, they were seven points down. It is to their great credit that heads never dropped. The team showed huge fight and determination to claw back the deficit. Jake Morris struck 3 goals in the second half and the score was level with 5 minutes to go. Unfortunately the team just couldn't get ahead and suffered a narrow defeat following a brave performance. Final score Nenagh 4-05 Galtee Rovers 5-05 CONGRATULATIONS TO NENAGH BOYS (L to R) Jake Morris, Mark O Farrell, Peter Folan and Conor Bonnar and the North Tipperary U-14 team on winning the Plate Final in The Peadar Cummins Tournament in Borrisoleigh last month. It was a great experience for the lads who are now taking part in county trials. Best of luck to all four.

8 NENAGH JUNIOR B CAMÓGIE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Last May the Camógie Club achieved another major milestone in its history when the Junior B team captured our very first adult league title after a comprehensive victory over Portroe. The girls, having already defeated Knockavilla Kickhams, Portroe, Kilruane MacDonaghs, Cashel and Ballingarry on-route to the final, were in an unforgiving mood and scored seven first half goals to blitz their opponents, with Michelle Collins, Aileen Duggan, Holly O Brien, Louise Hickey and Danielle Harrington (3) all finding the net. The onslaught continued in the second half with some delightful points from Ciara and Rachel Maher before Harrington added the final goal after a fantastic thirty yard run leaving the final score 8-05 to This game wasn't all about the forwards however as goalkeeper Clíona Curran answered all questions asked of her while the backs excelled throughout with the young guns Rachel Maher, Nenagh Éire Óg Captain, Alice Darcy, receiving the Junior B League Plague Alanna Morris and Zoey Grattan ably assisted by the more seasoned campaigners of Mary Dillon and captain fantastic Alice Darcy. Michelle Collins, at midfield had a fantastic hour which included the opening goal of the game, a fantastic effort from fifteen yards after a great twenty yard run, while her partner Ciara dominated the middle patch scoring some great points and setting up numerous attacks. The forwards all gave fantastic displays with each of the starting forwards finding the net but it was Danielle Harrington who grabbed all the headlines with five goals earning her the "Guardian Performance of the Week" accolade. Congratulations to all the panel and their hardworking manager Denise Morris and coaches Paul Henry and Shane Connolly Team Clíona Curran, Alice Darcy, Mary Dillon, Rachel Maher, Zoey Grattan, Alanna Morris, Michelle Collins, Ciara, Aileen Duggan, Danielle Harrington, Louise Hickey, Holly O Brien Subs Brenda O Sullivan, Amy Heffernan and Paula Ryan MATCH VIDEO LINK PRESENTATION VIDEO LINK JUNIOR B CAMÓGIE PANEL WITH MANAGER DENISE MORRIS AND COACHES PAUL HENRY AND SHANE CONNOLLY.
