1 Minutes of the WCOA Football Board Meeting on 04/30/2012 at Germany Library at 6:00 PM Football Board Meeting called to order at 6:00 pm. Attendees: Dr. Greg Kaiser, Harold Greenfield, Phil Crangi, Lee Mowry, Darrell Richardson. Clem Brooks, Ken Calhoun, Hank Weil Absent: Clem Brooks (WCOA President): Clem addressed the board concerning important agenda items concerning his return to the WCOA board. Thom Powers has resigned from the position of president and will concentrate on being the treasurer. Clem Brooks was appointed by the executive board to fill the remainder of Mr. Power s term as president. Clem expressed he is here to help guide the WCOA thru the 2012 year and stay up-to-date on business and association matters. We must get and stay compliant with football committees in accordance with the FHSAA guidelines, with a minimum of 3 members on each committee. Dr. Greg Kaiser (WCOA VP of Football): Jefferson has now become available on May 19 th. Previously, Jefferson had a commitment to another function in the auditorium, but that is no longer the case. Therefore, there will be a change of location: The clinic is NOT at Tampa Catholic, it is at Jefferson High School. Reason: We did not expect 180+ attendees. Tampa Catholic could not accommodate 180+ attendees as well as Jefferson. We will be contacting the FHSAA with the location change and will notify the membership. Lee Mowry is leaving us. Lee has accepted a promotion with the Graybar and will be relocating to West Palm Beach, Florida. Lee s availability is questionable for May and June. The board now has the duty to replace Lee with an interim board member for the remaining one year of Lee s term. The board has nominated Tom Johnson, and (pending his acceptance) the board will be back to its full complement for the remainder of the year. The board also discussed Lee s replacement as crew chief. The board is replacing Lee with Brett Nehrt. Brett Nehrt was the crew chief for the 16 th crew in 2011 and is the logical person to assume the vacant crew chief position. Dr. Kaiser participated in a 90 minute webinar with the FHSAA, he represented the WCOA during the meeting in which the FHSAA reviewed the procedures for hosting a state field clinic. The WCOA is receiving weekly updates on pre-registered clinic participants. We will have a large group representing multiple associations around the state. Packets will be mailed to each of our NFL and NCAA clinicians containing NHFS mechanics and rules books, materials from past WCOA clinics and instructions on their duties. We will ask a number of association members to help out at the registration desk on the day of the clinic and be their early. Preliminary assignments for getting breakfast, drinks, etc. were discussed. We will go over these things in detail during the next board meeting just prior to the clinic. The finances of the clinic were reviewed, by staying within a set budget it will allow the WCOA to make quite a bit of money from the clinic. There are a few members of the WCOA who do not need this FHSAA Football Field Clinic this year and who are normally playoff officials. Therefore, they will be offered the opportunity to participate in the Rookie/Referee Clinic in late July to early August to fulfill their clinic requirement with the WCOA and remain playoff eligible. The board does not want to exclude these members from the opportunity to be playoff eligible since the FHSAA Football Field Clinic will serve as the WCOA Football Clinic this year. The board again reviewed the duties and responsibilities of Referee s. This was approved and will soon be available on the website. Spring scrimmages will soon be posted in the football section of the WCOA web site. The scrimmages held the day of the FHSAA field clinic do not count as scrimmages for play-off qualifying. 2 Please sign up for any scrimmage you can make and be sure to sign in at every scrimmage you attend. There are 2 crew-hopeful s scrimmages coming up. Excellent chance to be seen and observed. Crew chiefs needing new crew members are encouraged to attend these scrimmages to scout the available talent. At the May 7 th meeting there will be committee sign-up sheets. Anyone interested will be asked to express their interest in a particular committee and sign the list. The final make up of each committee is up to the committee chairman.
