4 4 Hermitage Leisure Centre : Summer Camp Wet & Wild Week 8-14 years Monday 12 Friday 16 August 8.45am pm This is an action packed week of wet and wild activities including the swimming pool inflatable and wet and wild sessions in the pool. This summer camp also includes day trips to Waterworld Aqua Park, Holme Pierrepoint where you can canoe, kayake, water ski, raft build and have a go on an army assault course. Other activities during the week include a Get Kinected session, multi sports, sports hall inflatable chamber, treasure hunt and more. Children must be able to swim. Cost 114 for 5 days. Summer Camp Adventure Week 8-14 years Monday 29 July Friday 2 August 8.45am pm This camp is an action packed week of adventure activities including multi-sport games, treasure hunt, DVD afternoon, Skate Park, Slacklining, Get Kinected sessions, pool inflatable, swimming and trips to West Midlands Safari Park and Alton Towers. Why not turn up and try out the exciting nine-hole course at Hermitage Recreation Ground! Cost 2.30 If you fancy playing a full 18 hole round then you can go around twice! If so, try out the challenging mini golf course! What s more, you don t have to worry about bringing any equipment as all is provided from the Park Attendants office. Junior 5 a side Pay and Play Pitch Hire Cost 5 per hour Fishing Lake If you enjoy fishing or have never fished before and are looking for a quiet lake to start on, why not try the fishing lake at Hermitage Recreation Ground? To fish on the lake you will need a rod licence which you must get in advance from a Post Office. Cost overs and 4 for under 16 s. Recommended minimum age is 12 years and under 16 s must be accompanied by an adult. The fishing lake is managed by Swadlincote and District Angling Club.

Stage 1: developing basic movement skills, water confidence and safety awareness, using swim aids Stage 2: safe entries into the water and continuing to practice floating, travel and rotation in the water, using swim aids Stage 3: working towards being able to swim10m on front and back and will be able to swim underwater to collect objects from the bottom of the pool. No need to book just turn up. Buggycise Cost: FREE A 6 week course aimed at mums wanting to get back into shape that involves a combination of strengthening and toning exercises. Each weekly session will last approx 1.5 hours and will be led by a qualified pre and post natal fitness instructor. Booking is required as limited spaces are available. Beginners - Intermediate Family Geocaching Cost: 2 per family Make Walking fun by turning it in to a game! Geocaching is a modern day twist on the popular treasure hunt game and is a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors whilst having fun,. 24 Calling All Young People Aged Years Create A Play-In-A-Day! A fantastic day which I strongly believe was beneficial to each and every child Friday 9 August, 9.30am 7.15pm Based at Ashby Venture Theatre Join professional theatre company Chorus Theatre to create, rehearse and perform a new play in just one day! This exciting one-day project offers the chance to work with professionals to learn acting and improvisation skills leading to a performance at the end of the day. Based at the Venture Theatre in Ashby-de-la- Zouch the group will work together to create characters, scenes and stories. A performance of the devised play will take place in the evening to an audience of family and friends. Previous experience is not necessary but enthusiasm and commitment are! This exciting project is open to anyone aged years and costs only 20 per person. Places are limited and must be booked in advance so please contact us to reserve a place. 25 Moira Furnace : / A visit to Moira Furnace is a wonderful family day out and is a must see. The 1806 blast furnace, which is an Ancient Monument, is steeped in history and is set in a wonderful country park alongside the Ashby Canal. The Joseph Wilkes barge operates at 11am, 12noon, 1pm and 2pm, and the trip along the canal is both leisurely and relaxing, taking in the local wildlife and scenery. 26 Andrew Head Breathing in other peoples tobacco smoke, known as second hand smoke, is known to cause a range of disorders from minor eye and throat irritation to heart disease and lung cancer. Children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of second hand smoke which can increase the risk of cot death, glue ear, asthma and other respiratory disorders. Evidence shows too that children growing up in an environment where they see others smoking are up to 4 times more likely to become smokers themselves with most smokers starting the habit before they are 16 years old, some as young as 10 or 11 years old. Restricting smoking to a specific room, smoking near an extraction fan or open window offers little real protection as the pollution from second hand smoke lingers on carpets, furnishings and walls which absorb the toxins from tobacco smoke and then release them back into the air, smoking in cars exposes babies and young children to even higher levels of toxicity. For further information pick up a leaflet from the Council Offices or your local library and make the promise now to Step Right Out* and keep it smoke free for your family. If you want help to stop smoking call for free confidential advice. * Step Right Out is the smoke free homes and cars scheme in place across Leicestershire as part of the work of the Tobacco-free Leicestershire and Rutland alliance. Launched across the County in April, the scheme is designed to protect children and young people from the harm caused by second hand smoke.
