1 EAU PLEINE OUTDOORS CLUB NEWS LETTER 501(C)3 FEIN March 16, 2016 EPOC HISTORY IN A NUT SHELL History EPOC was formed late December 2011 by the current board members. The NASP, National Archery in the Schools Program, had been previously established by Jeff and Cindy Braun and the group saw a need for a more established organization to better provide for area youth. The goal was to find a location and a way to construct a building for designated archery practices and outdoor activities. Much time was spent working with area land owners and the village of Stratford in finding the right location for our club. In the meanwhile we were coaching anywhere from youth NASP archers annually. We travelled to the State Tournament where we qualified for Nationals in Kentucky every year. Many individual archers and our teams have qualified for and participated in the NASP World tournaments that are located annually in different EPOC VISION To educate, foster, encourage and expand interest in shooting sports in all forms and to people of all ages: To develop and create a spirit of fellowship and sportsmanship while building self-esteem and character in our youth: To acquire and provide facilities and instructors for practice in competitive and recreational shooting sports. locations across the country. During this time, EPOC secured a twenty-year lease with the village of Stratford and established an outdoor 3D archery range on 80 acres of village property just east of the village off Highway 153. Mid 2014 EPOC purchased the 2 acre lot, at 470 West Meadow Street, in the Stratford Industrial EPOC BOARD MEMBERS President: Cindy Braun cbraun@amsbowfishing.com Vice President: Allan Brusky allanbrusky@yahoo.com Treasurer: Jeff Braun jbraun@amsbowfishing.com Secretary: Mindy Slominski Slominski4@me.com Board Members: Mathew Schillinger Julie Stueber Brad Slominski LOAN BALANCE: $69, March 16, 2016
2 E A U P L E I N E O U T D O O R S C L U B park where our building is located today. Fundraising ensued and after funding most of the building cost through CURRENT EVENTS fundraisers, corporate and private donations and a grant from the B.A. Esther Greenheck Foundation, we broke ground in late A commercial loan was set up to handle the additional building expenses. CASH RAFFLE Now Through April 16 With a $69,000 loan balance, EPOC needs your help in selling raffle tickets for our cash raffle. Only 100 tickets will be sold at $100 each. This raffle could bring EPOC $5000 with an additional $5000 pay back to the lucky ticket winners. First Place is $2500, Second $1500, and Third $1000. The drawing will be held at our Open House on April, 16, We need every one to sell a couple tickets for this very important fundraiser! Please contact Jeff Braun for tickets You have a 3/100 chance of winning at least $1000. Way better odds than any lottery! Sold Tickets need to be turned into Jeff Braun or the Lock box at the range as soon as they are sold please. Tournament Success! Feb. 26 & 27: NASP Invitational Archery Tournament EPOC and the Stratford Sharp Shooters held our fifth annual NASP Invitational Archery Tournament. Over 375 archers from as far away as Superior, Wisconsin participated in the event. This was a great fundraiser for the club and we were able to make a $5000 payment on the loan with some of the proceeds from the tournament. March 16: Membership Meeting - Brief Notes Treasurers Report: Checking: $ Savings: $ Loan Balance: $69, Building Update: We will be getting barn board from Allan Brusky to finish window trim before open house. Keith Stuttgen will square up service doors prior to trim installation. Latches for service doors have been replaced with automatic locking hardware so the doors down range will not allow unexpected entrants. Polster has replaced the women s bathroom light switch with a new brand. It seems to be working better with the new switch. Carpeting, donated by Rices Capital Carpets, for a back stop has been installed on the east wall. The opening in the south-east corner is for a closed storage area. Kitchen: Gary Jicinsky donated the full kitchen of Cherry Cabinetry. Eric Schermetzler from the Granite Shop donated all of the granite for the window sills and kitchen. Pete Swita at Swita Cabinetry from Mosinee donated and installed the bathroom stalls in both bathrooms. Thank you for your donations! Donor Plaques: TD Fischer from Wausau has completely donated all of the donor signs that will be installed in the range. We have 6 Platinum Donor signs ready to hang and are just finalizing the remaining silver and bronze signs. We hope to have them all installed before the open house. 3D League: The 3D league is going well. We are currently wearing out the inserts on many of the 3D targets but feel that they will last for the last five weeks of league. Due to the wear on the 3D targets and the cost of replacement, the fee for summer league will be increased to $10/week with a non-member fee of $20. Dates for summer league to be determined. Membership Rules: Family memberships can include 18 or 19 year old students that are STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL. Once the student graduates from high school and is 18 or older, they are no longer included as part of a family membership and will have to buy their own single membership. Extra key fobs are $20
3 Eau Pleine Outdoors Club each. Each family membership only gets one fob. All members who are under age 18 must be accompanied by a member adult when using the facility. Rules will be updated. Kicking Bear Youth Camp: We are looking into hosting a Day Youth Camp in the fall with Ray Howell. Look up Kickingbear.org for additional information. Thrivent Financial: Members who use Thrivent Financial have offered assistance in directing their Choice dollars to EPOC. They also offer Action Teams where EPOC can apply for funds through a Thrivent member. EPOC is now set up to receive Choice Dollars from Thrivent. Contact your agent if you would like to direct your Choice dollars to EPOC. Future Events: Were discussed and are listed below Adjourned: 8:45pm April 1 & 2: NASP STATE TOURNAMENT, CHULA VISTA RESORT, WISCONSIN DELLS, WI EPOC will host the aerial Disk thrower and the AMS Bowfishing Boat at the NASP State Tournament in Wisconsin Dells, April 1 & 2. All proceeds go to EPOC. Set up will be Thursday March 31, and shooting will begin Friday from 9-6 and Saturday from 9-6. We will need help from NASP parents attending state with set up, working and tear down. This is a great fundraiser for EPOC. April 8-10: EPOC Hosts Hunter Safety Course ** LEAGUE HOURS LIMITED THIS WEEKEND ** Our Hunters Safety Course has filled up with 30 participants. Hours of the course will be Friday night, April 8, 6-8pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am 3 pm. Cost for the course was $10 per person and lunch will be offered for $5 per plate on Saturday and Sunday. Allan Brusky is handling registration and collection of the course fees and meal monies. Allan can be reached at This is a cell phone so text messages will be fine. Payments can be put in the lock box at the range or given to Al Brusky. Allan is also compiling a list of others that are interested in the next course. Please let him know if you have interest in a future course. Instructors are volunteers. Additional donations welcome and will be put directly toward our outstanding loan balance. THE BUILDING WILL BE CLOSED TO LEAGUE AND MEMBER SHOOTING DURING THE HOURS OF THE HUNTERS SAFETY CLASS. OPEN SHOOTING AVAILABLE AFTER 3PM. April 16 th Saturday: 12pm 4 pm EPOC Open House Finally, an opportunity for the community to see what we re all about. We will offer a free open range for both 3D and NASP Targets. 4 Eau Pleine Outdoors Club April 20, PM EPOC General Membership Meeting May 12, 13 & 14: NASP NATIONALS EPOC Fundraiser Opportunity Louisville Expo Center, Louisville, Kentucky We ve partnered with AMS Bowfishing and are able to use their bowfishing boat to offer an interactive shoot for Nationals Participants. Youth archers climb aboard the boat and shoot at 3D fish targets from the boat. Over 12,000 archers meet in Louisville to compete at the National Level. This is a HUGE Fundraiser for our Club. All Proceeds are donated to EPOC. Generally, families and parents of NASP shooters participate and work the booth at this event. We are looking for NASP parents who are interested in attending nationals who would be willing to work the boat during the National Tournament. May 18: EPOC General Membership Meeting May 19: St. Joseph School Flower Sorting at EPOC St. Joseph School will be using the EPOC building all day on May 19 to sort and distribute potted flowers for their annual fundraiser. There will be no open shooting, league or NASP shooting at all that day. May 21 & 22: AMS Bowfishing Big 30 Tournament EPOC Fundraiser Opportunity Marshfield Fairgrounds, Marshfield, WI EPOC members would be able to operate the aerial disk thrower at the tournament and charge participants $5/10 arrows during the day on Saturday. AMS Bowfishing provides free lunch for the tournament participants. This would be a great fundraiser to be run by the kids. Sunday morning breakfast could be provided by EPOC for a fee of $5 or $10 depending on the type of breakfast at weigh-in from 5am-10 am or so. There are expected 100, three man teams. = 300 hungry guys x $5 = $1500 potential for breakfast gross income? Looking for people willing to help. This has to be run solely by EPOC members so all funds are clearly made by EPOC. This would be a great fundraiser to be run by the kids! June 15: EPOC General Membership EPOC Building 7PM
5 Eau Pleine Outdoors Club June 24, 25 & 26: NASP WORLDS EPOC Fundraiser Opportunity Myrtle Beach, South Carolina It is possible that we could bring both the aerial disk thrower and use the AMS Bowfishing Boat offer an interactive shoot for NASP Worlds Participants. Over 6,000 participate at the National Level. Depending on NASP interest and qualification for Worlds, this could be a great Fundraiser for our Club. All Proceeds would be donated to EPOC.
