This is your last chance to register your fair projects! DEADLINE IS JULY 10 No exceptions! NEW for 2015: ONLINE REGISTRATION Go to oneida.uwex.edu 4-H EXHIBIT JUDGING INFORMATION JULY 21 & JULY 22: Photography entries: Bring your photographs in on July 21 or July 22 to the UW- Extension office. Judging will be held at 9:30 a.m. on July 22 at the UW-Extension office. WEDNESDAY, JULY 29: Bring in your fair entries to the fairgrounds between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. If you have foods or plants that will not hold until judging, you may bring them in on judging day. You will receive a letter in the mail 2 or 3 weeks before the fair with confirmation of your exhibits registered and more fair details. THURSDAY, JULY 30: All 4-H exhibit judging will take place at 9 a.m. and may continue until 2 p.m. The times will be dependent on the number of entries. There are only three 4-H judges who will be judging all 35 departments plus open class, so please be considerate and patient with wait times for judging. Thank you! FRIDAY, JULY 31: Dog judging will take place at 9 am. at the Airport. Cloverbud judging will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

More than 130 youth participated from the community and 27 sponsors helped make this event a success. Please mark the first Saturday in June on your calendars for Family Fishing Fun Day next summer! 4-H volunteers Kathy Winkler, left, and Carol Lofquist, right, hand out prizes to participants at the event. WISCONSIN BLACK BEAR EDUCATION CENTER Members of the Keep it in the Northwoods 4-H Club visited the Wisconsin Black Bear Education Center on June 13 in Wausau. Oneida County 4-H made a donation to the Education Center. From left are Vince Lofquist, Lynn Feldman, Carol Lofquist, Black Bear Center Director Jeff Traska, 4-Her Anna Wood, Jean Wood, 4-Her Ben Kubisiak and 4-Her Louis Malais. The Wisconsin Black Bear Educational Center was founded by Jeff Traska, a lifelong outdoorsman and reformed sport hunter who has been fascinated by bears since childhood. 4-H family members attended a free horse clinic on Saturday, June 20, at Great Northern Adventure Co. in Eagle River. BAT EDUCATION NIGHT COME AND BUILD BAT HOUSES A bat education night is being planned for the last week in August. Oneida County 4-H is looking for 3 or 4 adults interested helping youth build bat houses for a citizen science bat monitoring project. Bat house plans and lumber will be supplied. Adult helpers will need simple tools. Call or anne.williams@ces.uwex.edu if you are interested. 4-H Dog Training 10-11:30 a.m. Sundays Do you have a dog that you would like to work with in obedience or agility? Bring yourself, your dog and your dog treats to dog training with certified 4- H volunteer and dog trainer Carol Lofquist. This group will meet at the 4-H dog training arena, located outside the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport. For more information, please contact Carol Lofquist at carol.lofquist@gmail.com. Join us in the 4th of July Parade! 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4 Please come and ride the 4-H float with us during the Fourth of July Parade on Saturday, July 4, in Rhinelander! Meet near the Trinity Church parking lot (across from Magic Scissors on Brown Street) and get ready to ride the float! The parade starts at 11 a.m. Wear 4-H apparel, green clothing and/or dress like you are going fishing! This year's theme is Fishing for 4-H Fun. The float will be decorated in the theme of a fishing scene featuring a shoreline and boat. 4-H families are invited to help finish decorating the trailer at 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 3, at Lorenz King s garage, located at 1975 North River Road, Rhinelander. Directions: Take highway 47 north. Turn left onto north river road (as if you are going to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles). Lorenz s blue garage shop is behind the big blue factory (first building on the left). Lego Robotics 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 7 The Mindstorm Legos Robotics group will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. at the UW-Extension Oneida County office (lower level of the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport). Let Amy Engel know if you are interested in participating in this by calling Skynet Astronomy 11:30-12:30, Saturday, July 18 Last session before the fair! Come and learn how to use Skynet at the UW-Extension Oneida County Office, located in the lower level of the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport. This program is geared for youth in grades 5 and older. Photography 1 p.m. Sunday, July 19 Anyone interested in learning about photography is welcome to attend this free photography clinic at the UW-Extension located in the lower level of the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport. For more information, contact Lynn at or by at lynn.feldman@ces.uwex.edu. Pawsitive Outdoor Games Baked goods & freezer needed! Saturday, Aug. 29 Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association is selling food as a fundraiser at the Pawsitive Outdoor Games on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport. Help make this fundraiser a success by bringing baked goods to sell (individually wrapped items to sell for $.50/piece, such as bars, cookies, etc.). Volunteers are needed to help run the food booth in 1-2 hour shifts, but most of the help is most needed beforehand to help set up the booth and after the event to take it down. A small freezer is also needed to keep ice cream treats cold. Sign up to help online at or call ; or Anne Williams, 4-H support staff, at anne.williams@ces.uwex.edu. Proceeds from the food sales at this event will go to the Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association, which funds supplies for 4-H projects, materials and activities, scholarships for 4-H trips, donations and more. Pawz n' Clawz Natural Pet Food and Grooming along with TLC Training with Love by Carol are hosting The Pawzitive Outdoor Games at the Rhinelander/ Oneida County Airport. The day will consist of 3 competition events: Dock Diving, Agility and The Fastest Dog in the Northwoods. Wisconsin State Fair: Aug Oneida County 4-Hers are encouraged to sign up to give a demonstration at the Wisconsin State Fair (Aug. 6-16) and/or sign up to help at the State Fair. Lynn Feldman, 4-H youth development Fall Forum November 6-8 SCHOLARSHIPS! Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association will pay: 25% of Fall Forum fees for 1st year 4-Hers 50% of Fall Forum fees for 2nd year 4-Hers 75% of Fall Forum fees for 3rd year+ 4-Hers Fall Forum is an opportunity for learning and networking for youth and adult volunteers. The sessions are interactive and provide practical ideas you can use at a club level; with a school program or in an outreach program. What s great is that youth and adults are learning together! Fall Forum is planned for a committee of youth and adult leaders from state Youth Leader and Adult Leader Councils and county staff. This year s forum offers 20 + educational workshops to choose from; plus Friday night will have over 15 different interactive learning stations. The sessions are taught by a teams of youth and adult volunteer leaders; county staff and state specialists. Registration is required for ALL PARTICIPANTS. Youth and adult leaders will register themselves using Registration is open in early September. Registration fees include materials, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday; breakfast on Sunday. Art Camp Upham Woods Register by Sept. 1 Wisconsin 4-H Art Camp for youth in grades 6-8 will be held Oct. 3-4 at Camp Upham Woods in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Cost is $75 which includes a camp T-shirt. 6 P a ge 6 T h e Clover Patch July 2015 affordable! Don t miss 4-H Arts Camp! Where else can you go to one place to learn about music, drama, visual arts, photography and communications! You ll rotate through the different Arts tracks each day, participate in a group Arts experience Saturday evening, and close with a ceremony for parents and families, celebrating the results of your group Arts Camp experiences. You ll also meet new friends, participate in camp games, and enjoy the great natural setting of Upham Woods, a 300-acre environmental education center on the Wisconsin River near Wisconsin Dells. 4-H Arts Camp is sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Extension and is planned and led by a talented group of 4-H high school youth, assisted by UW-Extension specialists, 4-H staff and key adult volunteers. You ll learn lots of creative ideas to take home to share with your family and friends. If you haven t been a part of the Arts Camp experience, come and see what you ve been missing! Space is limited. Fill out the application found on page 7 of this newsletter and turn it into your local 4-H office. SCHOLARSHIPS! Proceeds benefit the Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association. 4-H SHIRTS FOR FREE AND ON SALE Contact the 4-H Office by July 10 Any youth who wants a 4-H blue shirt contact the 4-H Office by July 10. Call to order by July 10! 4-H Shooting Sports July 11 & July 18, Rhinelander Register by July 10 4-H youth in grades 3 and older have opportunities to learn archery and air rifle (BB gun) for free with trained, certified 4-H volunteer shooting sports instructors. Archery lessons will take place at 9 a.m. and air rifle is scheduled for 1 p.m. Both will take place at instructor Jim Winkler s residence, located at 5948 Troy Haven, Rhinelander (from Rhinelander, take Highway 47 north and turn left onto Forest Lane.
