There have been reports of yellowfin and striped marlin from Port Macquarie, a trailerboat tagged two blues at the Gold Coast last weekend, and here we are sitting between the two bites. I m pretty sure some of the love is going to rub off on us too, so be ready for anything from tuna to marlin to mahimahi this Saturday.

3 The Pensioners (Geeza and Bob Crutchfield) went for a run on Better Than Vegas on Tuesday and scored a double header of 31 and 33 kilo yellowfin just south of Byron s, so there s clearly a few about at present. Geeza hooked up to his striped marlin. Bob thinks it s all taking too long. Later in the day, Adam Allaway blew the old folks into the weeds with a substantially better yellowfin of 61.5 kilos. The downside though, was that he hadn t renewed his membership no, not again! Just about in tagging range.

5 This is a screen capture of Vegas on Marine Traffic on Tuesday. Do you think Pete had marlin on his mind? It certainly worked! The marlin hookup came from the front of the dorsal fin, the tuna from the tips of the tail. On matters yellow-fin, can someone please remember to keep an anal fin from the next tuna (around kilos) they catch for the Anal Fin Award? It d be good to get the trophy put together while they re around. Will wonders never cease? Geeza s drinking light beer! CLUB MEMBERSHIPS NOW OVERDUE As we ve seen already, it s a shame to have fish not count for trophies and general pointscore because memberships haven t been renewed, so if you haven t done so, here s another reminder THEY RE DUE NOW! Adults need to be members of the Coffs Harbour Yacht Club as well, which is a paltry $15, or join for a couple of years to make it easier.

6 To put it in perspective for the miserable tight arses out there, membership amounts to three schooners at yottie prices, or about one 10/0 stainless Mustad at FTA prices. It s time to pony up everyone, to help the club that helps us. ANOTHER ANAL FIN NOMINATION This is probably best considered a group effort, involving Bobby, Geeza, Pete and Adam. There was a bit of a delay in weighing the Vegas tuna on Tuesday, because they couldn t open the big box where the scales were kept. That s because they were trying to open the little box where marina gate key is kept for boats arriving after hours hmm. BOAT INSPECTION DAY Chopper reports all the boats passed with flying colours without cash or beers having to change hands (worse luck, he says), and then everyone adjourned to the downstairs bar at the yotties for a pre-season barbie. Once again, Rod from Café Bellissimo rocked it with awesome hamburgers, while Bob St John manned the bar. It was a terrific afternoon, and an extremely enjoyable lead-up to the real business at hand. COMP DAY TOMORROW! So yes, the season opener is finally upon us. Fishing times are 7.00am to 4.00pm, and Seaborn is running the skeds. With good weather and excellent fishing reports, we re expecting eight boats to be fishing at this stage, so see you out there. Post fishing, there will be nibbles on downstairs at the club, and if anyone snares a fish worth throwing on the barbecue, by all means bring it along.
