Leisue and hobbies Dora McDermot: Our first holiday in Spain was a catastrophe! We missed our flight at Manchester Airport and the next plane to Marbella was four hours later. We landed in Marbella very late at night. There was only one taxi at the airport. The driver wanted a lot of money for the journey to town. Dad was angry, but we gave the man the ney and took the taxi. He drove us to the Hotel Casanova. It was a wonderful hotel with a big swimming pool. We were hungry and the food in the restaurant smelled wonderful. But there was a little problem. They didn t know us sand they didn t have a room for us. Now Dad was really angry and he shouted. mo- Mum opened her bag and looked for our travel information. They were right. We were in the Hotel Carcinoma behind the station. We walked there because we didn t dn t have the money for another taxi. An old man opened the door and showed us our rooms. There wasn t a restaurant, but the beds were fine and we were more tired than hungry. Task 2 There are ten mistakes in the following report. 6 Station 3 Task 1 A fish for supper Read the following text and highlight any words that you don t know. Name: Leisue and hobbies Rikmal Gupta and his parents arrived at the camping site near Windermere in the Lake District on Monday afternoon. The lake was very beautiful and Rikmal was excited. Let s go fishing! That s a good idea, said his father. Just a minute, said Mrs Gupta. I haven t got anything for our evening meal. We must buy some food first. No need for that, dear, said Mr Gupta. We ll catch a nice big fish for supper. Oh, really? said Mrs Gupta. OK. But don t take too long. I m hungry. Rikmal and his father lifted their canoe off the top of the camper and went fishing. It was a nice day, there were no clouds and the sun was warm. It s only 3.30, Rikmal said. We can be back with our fish in an hour or so. This lake must be full of fish! So they waited for a fish. They waited for two hours but no fish. Now it was 5.30 and Rikmal was very hungry. And then something in the water pulled his fishing line. Rikmal jumped up. I ve got a fish! Don t stand up! his father shouted. Too late. Rikmal fell into the water. Mr Gupta pulled him back into the boat and gave him a towel. We d better go back now. But, Dad. We haven t got a fish for supper. I can see the supermarket. It isn t far. We ll go there first and buy a fresh fish. But don t tell your mother. Half an hour later they pulled their canoe out of the water and carried it to their camper. Mrs Gupta opened the door and looked out. Hey, Mum. We ve got a nice big fish for supper. We ve cleaned it, too. Wonderful! She took the fish and went into the camper. Supper will be in ten minutes. Rikmal and his father sat down at the small table in the camper. Mrs Gupta served the grilled fish. Mmmh. That smells good, Mum! Yes, and it tastes s just like cod. But it can t be cod, can it? Because cod is a sea fish. Mrs Gupta laughs. You must go fishing again tomorrow perhaps next time you ll catch a mackerel or a herring. Task 2 Compare your text with the highlighted words in your partner s text.
