1 Animate: Adding Sounds This assignment uses your skills in creating motion, symbols, and layers then adds how to enhance with the use of sound. Renée Cole 2018

2 Click to view an example of adding sound Aquarium Example Open a new project in Animate Set the stage size to 800x600 (Modify>Document) Go to View Percentage>Show Frame Double-click on Layer 1 and name it Water Draw water to cover the entire stage by filling a rectangle blue with no stroke See Next Slide...

4 LOCK Water layer Insert a layer (Insert>Timeline>Layer or click icon) Rename the new layer Sand Draw sand by using a rectangle across the bottom ¼ of the stage with a sand fill color Delete the stroke Water layer locked Sand layer added Stroke deleted Rectangle filled for sand

5 Use the Selection tool to bend the top line of the rectangle to add some shape Lock the Sand layer Save as (your initials)aquarium in your Animation folder. (Save frequently as you continue to work)

6 Insert a Layer and rename it Fish Use any of the drawing tools to draw a fish Select all the pieces of your fish NOTE: Since the other layers are locked, use Ctrl+A to select all and only your fish will be selected Group the fish (Modify>Group or Ctrl+G) Your fish should now have a blue box around it to tell you it is grouped

7 Select your fish Convert it to a SYMBOL (Insert>Convert to Symbol or F8) Key FISH 1 as the name>choose Graphic Behavior>OK Save Position the fish on the stage so it is facing the middle of the stage Add a MOTION TWEEN Click on frame 60 of the Fish layer and press the F6 key to create a keyframe NOTE: The water and sand will disappear because your playhead is now in frame 60 and the water and sand layers do not have 60 frames. (See next slide for example)

9 Click on frame 60 and move the fish to the other side of the stage Drag the Playhead to test the motion Click on frame 61 and insert a keyframe Select the fish and Modify>Transform>Flip Horizontal (This flips the fish to the opposite direction)

11 Click on frame 120 of the Fish layer and insert a key frame Click keyframe 120 and place the fish back on the other side of the stage Lock the fish layer Unlock the sand layer and insert a keyframe at frame 120 Lock sand layer again Unlock water layer and insert a keyframe at frame 120 Lock water Press Shift Enter to preview the movie Save If your movie works correctly the fish will swim to one side of the aquarium, turn around, and swim back

12 Now add some more fish to your Aquarium! Open the library by going to Window>Library Move the playhead back to frame 1 Add another layer and name it Fish 2 Make sure the Fish 2 layer is selected and drag a copy of the fish symbol onto the stage near the first fish Click on Fish 2 to select it and then click on the Free Transform tool to change to a different size

13 At this time Fish 2 only appears in frame 1 Add a MOTION TWEEN Insert a KEYFRAME in Frame 60 Move fish 2 to the other side of the aquarium Click in frame 61 of the Fish 2 timeline and insert a keyframe Flip Fish 2 so it faces the other direction (Modify>Transform>Flip Horizontal) Click in frame 120 of the Fish 2 timeline and insert a keyframe Move Fish 2 back to the other side of the aquarium

14 Press Enter to play the movie (The two fish should be moving) Lock Fish 2 layer Add a third fish and make it move faster (You can control the speed by using fewer frames to get the fish back and forth across the stage.) Move the playhead to frame 1 and open the library (Window>Library)

15 Add another layer and name it Fish 3 Make sure frame 1 of the Fish 3 timeline is selected and pull another copy of the fish onto the stage Resize the third fish and make it quite a bit smaller than the others Add a MOTION TWEEN Click on frame 30 of the Fish 3 layer and add a keyframe so Fish 3 reaches the other side of the aquarium in 30 frames Place Fish 3 on the other side of the aquarium Insert a keyframe at frame 31 and flip the fish

16 Add another keyframe at frame 60, move the fish back to the other side Add keyframe at frame 61 and flip the fish Add a keyframe at 90 and move the fish back to the other side Add keyframe at frame 91 and flip the fish Add last keyframe at 120 and move the fish back to the other side Lock Fish 3 layer Add another layer and name it Bubbles Draw bubbles and add keyframes and motion tweening to make the bubbles move Make sure to make the bubbles a symbol

17 Add more fish, seaweed, rocks, etc. to your movie as desired (Be sure to add layers for any new objects and make all new drawings symbols) Go to the next assignment to add a sound effect to your aquarium. You will show me after you have completed adding sound Next Assignment: Adding Sound Part 2
