Yet very few players split step, never mind do it well. Footwork is the foundation of all your shots and by taking a strong split step (a short hop) just before your opponent strikes the ball, you ll develop better anticipation and a quicker first step to the ball. You may register for a golf cart and pick up a key at the Golf Shop. Keys must be returned to the Golf Shop when you have completed your tour. Please understand that walking or riding around the golf course is restricted to cart paths only. The new grasses need me to grow in and take root. 14 Page 14 LET S SHAPE UP FOR GOLF! GOLF News Mini-Band Walk Sideways (1 Set, 10 Steps, Each Direction) Why it works: The resistance of the stretch bands against your legs activates and strengthens the hips, groin, quads and glutes, all key to maintaining a stable base when you swing, especially at faster speeds. How to do it: Place a mini-band around your legs above the knee and another around your ankles. Walk sideways in small steeps, keeping your legs fairly straight and alternating the elbows driving back with each step. Keep your back straight and your knees over your toes at all times. PLEASE TAKE NOTE Unlike many sports, golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules. All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times, irrespective of how competitive they may be. This is the spirit of the game of golf! Playing at a better pace is not about hurrying up or rushing around the course. It is simply about being more efficient with your valuable time, as well as everyone else's. Adopting this mindset and not being afraid to share it with your fellow players will ultimately add enjoyment to your golf experience. MEN S 9 HOLE GOLF By Bob Spry Let s dust off those golf clubs, find those old golf shoes, take a few warm up swings, and play 9 holes of golf. Remember to bring lots of golf balls! Starting November 13, 2013 and running thru April 30 th, 2014, Our Pro, Suzanne, and Lew Moody will be setting up a Wednesday 2:30 to 5:00 P.M. golf game for the first 36 players to sign up. $5.00 per player will be charged to your account with 3 winning teams. The cut-off for sign-up will be every Sunday, 5 o clock. All events will be team events, 2 or 4 man scrambles, shambles, etc. This event is for guys who just want to walk or ride for 9 holes of golf. It will allow many of us to keep playing or begin again when we thought we were over the hill. Just plain fun. Any questions call Bob , or Lew Moody at the Landings after October 25.

15 Page 15 RULES REMINDERS GOLF News GOLF COURSE RANGERS MISSION Golf Course Rangers mission: The ranger is the golf course watchman: who directs the flow of traffic, enforces the club rules and regulations, minds the golf course grounds and assists the players with any on course problems, and helps members find balls. The rangers are there to help members and guests enjoy their day. This year we will be using the flag system. The colors of the flags will be different color (see below) but as a ranger passes you your group will always know their position. Our rangers will be using the flag system: Green flag means everything is running fine. Yellow Flag means the your group has fallen behind and needs to pick up their pace. (This group will be checked again by the range within a minutes time span) Red Flag means the group will be asked to pick up their balls, and take a net double bogie for the hole(s) skipped and catch up with the group in front. Please know... The new 90º cart path rule is always in effect here at the Landings unless it is path only restrictions. This means that you should drive out at a 90º angle to your ball and return the same way. This will be very important for the next 2 years so that we can insure the root structure of the new grasses and firmly rooted Ball Unfit for Play A ball is unfit for play if it is visibly cut, cracked or out of shape. A ball is not unfit for play solely because mud or other materials adhere to it, its surface is scratched or scraped or its paint is damaged or discolored. If a player has reason to believe his ball has become unfit for play during play of the hole being played, he may lift the ball, without penalty, to determine whether it is unfit. Before lifting the ball, the player must announce his intention to his opponent in match play or his marker or a fellow-competitor in stroke play and mark the position of the ball. He may then lift and examine it, provided that he gives his opponent, marker or fellow-competitor an opportunity to examine the ball and observe the lifting and replacement. The ball must not be cleaned when lifted under Rule 5-3. If the player fails to comply with all or any part of this procedure, or if he lifts the ball without having reason to believe that it has become unfit for play during play of the hole being played, he incurs a penalty of one stroke. PACE OF PLAY Play ready Golf! On The Fairway 5. Hit when Ready & Safe; do NOT use honor system. 6. Take appropriate clubs to your ball and hit without delay. 7. Have your group watch where your shot goes. 8. Limit search for lost ball to 3 minutes.

18 Page 18 Marina News DOCK BOXES ARE HERE! They are finally here! The dock boxes for our brand new C dock have just arrived. If you are interested in having one of these beau es for your new slip, please contact the Ship s Store and make arrangements to have yours installed today. These boxes are fade proof, crack proof, and are extremely easy to secure your items. We also have locks available for you either in combina on or keyed if so desired. LYC IS CRUISING AGAIN RENTAL BOAT ANYONE? It does not seem possible, but the first cruise of the season is underway for the Yacht Club. All of the vessels made it out of the marina with minimal problems and everyone has made it safely. Being the first shakedown cruise of the year is a reminder for everyone to make sure your vessel is in p top shape before the season starts. As we always say, preventa ve maintenance is the best maintenance. Impellers are probably the most important pieces of equipment on all styles of engines. Engine zincs, fuel filters, thermostats, poppet valves and lubes are essen al for you to have a problem free season. Please give us a call to schedule your annual maintenance as we are backing up with service or WATER IN FUEL ders. We want to make sure everyone has a pleasant boa ng season and scheduling well in advance insures that will be accomplished. Call today to schedule your service STONE CRAB SEASON IS HERE While we all can t wait for these delicious morsels to be on our plates, it also brings in the me of year for prop damage from crab pots. Please pay a en on to the layout of the crab pots as you boat during this season. Even though these are supposed to be laid out in a line pa ern and out of harms way, it is seldom the case. We offer prop tuning and also repair through our vendors and will be happy to assist in any way we can. TAKE OUT MENU AT THE GAS DOCK Thanks to our F&B, we are now able to offer a to go menu for our boaters. If your going on a short fishing trip, leisurely sunset cruise, or a picnic at the beach, we have a menu to fit your needs for your me on the water. Check the Wheelhouse or the Ship s Store to get more informa on. Don t have a boat in the marina? Maybe you should check out the Landings rental boat for a truly wonderful experience you can share with friends and family. Our boat holds up to 10 people and is a breeze do drive. Add some food from our new to go menu, a cooler full of your favorite beverage, and passengers, and it proves to be a day you will not forget. Times are booking up already this season so make sure you contact the Ship s Store to make your reserva on today. We are also available to take you and your group out if you need someone to drive! We have run into numerous problems this year with water in the fuel system. Granted, we had torren al downpours this summer, and water does find ways to get into the cracks and crevices of the boats, but we can prevent a lot of this from happening with preventa ve maintenance. It is so important to change the o ring on your fuel fills every year. These are the leading cause of water ge ng into the fuel tank. Vented fue caps are also a problem as they do not completely seal. We have solu ons to help get rid of this problem and have found a vent system that does not allow intrusion of water. Besides the fuel fills, the other way to help keep moisture out of your fuel tank is to keep it ¾ full to eliminate condensa on build up through the hot months. CALM WINDS AND SMOOTH SEAS!
