A Message from the Captain Dear Members As we enter the second fifty years in the life of JSGC (Dhekelia) myself, and the Committee offer our best wishes to our members and visitors; we hope that you have an enjoyable and rewarding year. I am honoured to be entrusted with the leadership of the Club during 2015 and I will endeavour to continue with the steady development that the Club has enjoyed over the years. A development that is mainly due to the many hard-working officers and Committee members. Once again we have such a group for this new season and we are very grateful to them for taking on the many and varied responsibilities that ensure the smooth and successful operation of a golf club. We ask that from time to time all members show their appreciation for our dedicated committee members and follow their example by participating in our Club activities on and off the course. Furthermore, we are also very grateful to our many sponsors and ask our members to show appreciation for their generosity by supporting them whenever opportunities arise. With the difficulties we face in the current economic times the importance for wholehearted support of our members cannot be stressed enough, only with the involvement of all can the Club continue to flourish. Whatever level of success the coming season brings you, enjoy your golf and your golfing friendships in Mark Pegler A Message from the Chairman Dear members, Thank you for your continued support. It is a testing time ahead with focus on Entitled vs Non-Entitled figures and scrutiny is going to become more intense later this year. I promise to keep the crocodiles away from our collective canoe as best I can but please remember one thing, I DO NOT have influence over any other encroachment and, even though what does seem unfair scrutiny on us, it will be coming to all encroachments, which may result in some closures this won t be happening to us! 2

I will endeavour to get the browns changed to greens before my tenure ends and even though we have half the required funds, there is a long way to go. Keep your fingers crossed that Nuffield Trust look favourably on us. We must incorporate a plan to replace the greens on a rolling basis when this project is complete to provide a replacement programme enabling JSGC (D) to have some of the best greens in Cyprus long term. The Astro Turf we intend to put down is very good quality with a 10 year guarantee you will be impressed. As you may have heard, my golf seems to have taken a turn for the worse and I have dragged a few people down to my desperate level when I have had the pleasure of their company recently for this I apologise, BUT I can only blame one person for this - Tony Laslett. I do see a light at the end of the tunnel and hope to see an improvement soon Hit 500 balls practice each day, stop cocking your wrists, follow through, keep your head down I have constantly ringing in my ears. Hope to see you on the course or for a pint soon. Jim Sugrue GROUNDS From the outgoing Grounds Member, Phil Mulligan The AGM now come and gone, I suppose it s not a bad time to reflect on what s happened and to look into the future. The course is like anyone s garden. Many of you must have spent hours weeding and pruning in your own place only to stand back and say; it doesn t look any different. I personally have always had a long list of things to do, but unfortunately it just kept getting longer. As you know the Acacia Mimosa has taken over, not only on the course but most of the base. Please continue to pull up the little blighters. Members should be aware that although we have machines and equipment, most of it is extremely old and requires frequent repairs, the majority of which is carried out in house, by our own grounds staff. The consequence of a particularly dry season, coupled with reduced water supplies and borehole pump problems, the course has not been at its greenest. The aggressive Pontefelius and Stirivenus continue to pose a thorny problem in the rough whilst Agregocem and Cantiflea manage to spread themselves on fairways. Although many members have pitched in from time to time, I would like to thank Peter and Sharon Woodcock, Mike and Carole Short, Eifion Jones, Melvyn Carr, Jim Smart and Penny for going that extra mile. 3

What of the future? As you know, the club membership has been invited to make proposals for any course changes. Sadly however, the response was a tad slow. To conclude. Astroturf. I hope you all like the mock up green at the practice area. I m cautiously optimistic that something will happen. My own point of view is that whatever the grant outcome we should proceed to upgrade hole by hole from our own funds. For myself, I shall remain committed to the wellbeing of the Club and will no doubt continue to potter about on the course helping the new grounds member, especially when we hire a JCB! [I was never much good with a shovel, despite my name]. Many people have asked me why I resigned. Well, I got tired and kept injuring myself, and people said I shouldn t be doing it at my age [Damn cheek]. Amazingly though, I HAVE RECENTLY WON THREE COMPS. Thanks for your support over the last couple of years. Phil Mulligan Grounds member retired P.S. The flora names I used earlier are made up. OUTGOING LADY CAPTAIN I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all this year s winners. Especially congrats to Aleks our new Club Champion and to Randi our Ladies Open Winner. Randi really has had an outstanding season earning herself our Golfer of the Year in every way. For me, this year has been the best as far as weather is concerned, and it has been a pleasure to be out there on a well prepared course. The Ladies section have all worked together in organising competitions, running them, buying prizes, setting the prize table. All these jobs take time and if it s spread out, then it s not on one person s shoulders. Breakfasts [Sue F] and the Halfway House ladies have done us proud, and a big thank you to the non-playing spouses who have supported HWH throughout the season. The Ladies have also done a lot of work around the club and garden areas, a task that sometimes goes unnoticed but it is appreciated. It s our club and we want it to look nice. The Ladies Blue Wave Open, the start of the FOG was a great success and, as I said earlier, was won by a great champion. Sadly I lost out. [I hate Switchback!] They say the back nine on a Sunday afternoon is the hardest golf to play. Next year! Thank you everyone for your support this year and good luck to the incoming Ladies Captain and her committee. Penny Mulligan 4

A message from the Vice Captain It is with great pride and pleasure that I assume the mantle of Vice Captain for the upcoming season. You will be aware that due to Service commitments it has proved difficult for an entitled person to take up the appointment. I will do my utmost to ensure that I give 100% to the office and that I will give my full support to the Captain. This is something of a first as I cannot find any records of a Septuagenarian having undertaken this office previously. If I can be of assistance to any of you in any respect please bother me first before you tackle the Captain, he has enough on his plate! I wish you all a very good year for the season both on and off the course. You are always welcome at the 19th hole! Remember the old adage "You cannot teach an old dog new tricks" Well I am quite happy to be the exception. Yours in Golf Peter C Parish A word from the Club Manager With the season well underway and lots going on around the Club it is a good time to remind members of some ways they can support their Club. We welcome guests and visitors to the Club whether to play or just to socialise and I am happy to help with security issues. Please read the details on the board in the Club room so you know the system and speak to the appropriate people in good time if you want to bring someone onto the Station. There are quite a few people allowed to escort so it shouldn't be too onerous for any one of them. 5

It is always a nice surprise when members offer to help with small jobs around the Club that they have noticed need doing. Dhekelia is still very much a Members Club and we rely on you to be observant, reporting problems and helping out where you can. A few members do a lot of work around the place and an offer of help - watering and weeding, moving furniture, carrying supplies and so on - means a lot to us all. Whilst our golfing events are always successful with a great atmosphere in the Club afterwards it would be nice to have some more social events. There are always plans to do this but of course it requires time to plan and organise. If anyone has any ideas for social events and is prepared to organise something please get in touch with me. This year will be busy, both on and off the course, and I would like to thank all those members who offer me help and support in trying to keep the Club on track for a successful and rewarding season all round. Chris Harper Club Manager The junior sessions started at the beginning of September and at the moment there are 13 new kids enjoying the Laslett/Rowe experience. Due to the numbers involved there are 2 sessions, one starting at 1645 and the second at I would like to thank my able assistant Phil Rowe as he has now progressed into a fine teacher; standing there for the last 50 odd lessons, he is now more than capable of teaching the kids. This frees me up to try and bring the more experienced kids up another level. I have now got the Business and Casual User Licence required to teach at Dhekelia. Lessons are going really well as several players have already shown a vast improvement. Kara Winter [8] having her second golf lesson. Kara s dad is serving with PWRR 6

Golfing Lessons. I am currently running 3 Education Centre sponsored golf skill courses with more coming soon. Please feel free to discuss any of your golf problems with me, or join the group short game lessons for the men and ladies. Please remember a golf lesson is not always a swing change, it may just need a tweak to put you back onto the par train!!! Tony Laslett the Pro A word or two from the Bar Manager Now that the Golfing Season has started in earnest with its inevitable time changes, cancellations, delays and postponements, that potentially affects the bar opening and or closing times, and of course the staffing. To help me provide the best possible service, flexibility and amenability, I ask that groups or members let me know as soon as possible of any such changes. Furthermore, I am more than happy to extend, change or even put on extra times as long as I am given enough notice. Additionally, due to financial restrictions I will have to close the bar if the customer numbers are not sufficient to keep it open, so please use it or lose it! Whilst the draught beer has been well received, I have found the delivery service to be unreliable and therefore ask the members if they are happy with this hit or miss system. Please let me know. A number of members have asked about the provision of fresh rolls for the Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime groups. I am currently working on a solution to make the rolls available in the next few weeks, until then however, we have pasties and sausage rolls available at the bar. Lastly, if anyone has any inquiries, comments or complaints, no matter how small, please don t hesitate to speak to me. I am always willing to listen and make reasonable changes if necessary. I look forward to seeing you at the bar. Kim Laslett Bar Manager 7

Shop The Shop is now stocked with the basics for the coming season. Unfortunately, the Forces Fixed rate (FFR), the exchange rate at which we convert our UK sourced goods at, has risen from 1.21 to the to A rise of around 4%. This is great if you paid your fees by UK cheque but not if you buy Shop goods! The good news however, is that the Chairman has agreed not to raise any prices for the time being. With Christmas fast approaching, if there is anything golf related that you have on your wish list, just ask and it could be here in time to go under the tree! A reminder that all profit from the Shop (& Bar) goes back to the Club. And now for something completely different Importing a Car to Cyprus as at Oct 14 As most of you will know Morgan recently imported a car from the UK and thought the experience may be of help and interest to anyone thinking about doing the same. Select a shipping agent in the UK. I used Andrews Shipping ( in Essex on recommendation and have no negative comments. Discuss date for shipping options. Delivery time 7-10 days. Cost: Roll on Roll off (RoRo) VAT. Container VAT. The benefit of a container is that you may fill the extra space with other items, whereas with the RoRo, the car must be empty. Fuel content minimal. Marine insurance 1% of invoice value for loss or 2.5% for more extensive coverage. Excess 250. I took the lower level as the excess would cover the likely transit damage. 8

The option for shipping is to deliver the car to the port of choice or, to the Agent in Essex. I selected Southampton and dropped the car off a few days early in the shadow of the MS Aurora. Select a Clearing Agent in Limassol. I used Kyriacos on recommendation of Andrews Shipping. Again, no issues, very thorough and necessary to go through the clearance process. Cost, including all clearance papers, 490. You have 10 days to complete the necessary Customs and Vehicle Registration procedures whilst being permitted to drive on the UK plates. Customs. A straightforward and easy process (in Larnaca anyway). Go to the Customs House near the Port roundabout, to the Customs desk. You will need: UK invoice, Log Book, Clearance papers (from Clearing Agent), Emission Certificate (from Road Transport Dept, Aradippou). They will provide the necessary clearance certificates and a receipt for the duty paid. Note: the Excise Duty is based on the Emissions. Less than 120 is optimum. Mine at 114 cost 39.12! To find out the likely cost, visit: and complete the valuation form. Transport Offices, Aradippou. This proved to be the hard part as there were no guidelines or assistance, unless you go to the ladies under the umbrella! No need now as I did it the hard way! You need: Customs docs, Invoice, MOT Cert ( 35.25) irrespective of age of vehicle, Insurance, UK Log Book, Registration Application Form*, Emissions Certificate*, each which may be purchased from one of the ladies, Nicky, under the umbrella. *These forms are obtained from the offices in the garage behind the front public area. This is the same place where you have the vehicle inspected, where they confirm the Chassis/Engine numbers etc. You are then sent to Room 29 for a final logging of the vehicle. Then, back to the queue! I would recommend queuing there at 0800 when it opens. 9

Cost to register: pro rata for the Road Tax. Again, this is determined by the Emissions, the lower the better. 115 (they couldn t find my car, a 14 model, so picked one that was close to the Manufacturers number stated!), cost 60 for the year, ie 15 for Oct Dec. Get number plates made. For this you will need a form produced by the Transport Office. Cost: 20. I used a small tyre garage a few hundred yards on the sea side/dhekelia side of the Port roundabout I hope this helps. For clarification of any part, please ask. Morgan John GROUNDS FOR THOUGHT - THOUGHT FOR GROUNDS As the playing season is now underway, I thought it would be useful to give some background information to Members regarding the course. The Golf Club relies upon 'grey water' from the sewage plant to irrigate the course. The 'grey water' is 'generated' by the population of Dhekelia Station and pumped from the sewage plant to the tanks above Nunnery tee box. When the population living in the Station dips - as this summer when the Resident Infantry Battalion changed - there is less 'grey water' available. Unfortunately the sewage pumps failed on several occasions this summer and our diesel generator that powers our own irrigation pump 'across the road' failed as well. This all adds up to a very dry course. The Grounds staff manage the water that is available as well as they can, by putting different irrigation lines on at different times throughout the week and at weekends. This means that sometimes the irrigation will be on whilst Members are playing and our Local Rules reflect this. Unfortunately in some areas, it is not possible to restrict the water to only one side of the fairway in play. This is because of the way that the pipes were originally connected. The Grounds staff are working to change this situation, by dividing lines and changing connections, whilst improving the overall irrigation coverage of the course. 10

As Captain, Mark Pegler asked that the popups be lifted around the browns. This work is well under way, with the popups being serviced or repaired as they are repositioned. Each popup takes a long time to correct, as when they were originally installed, they were connected directly to the main feed pipes. To raise each popup, the feed pipe has to be dug out and a new connection made to allow the popup to be repositioned. Mark also decided that Leeway would be the main focus for this year. The work to improve the profile, irrigation and grass coverage of the bank around the brown has been completed. This is now better to play and easier and quicker to maintain. The browns have been a particular problem for the Grounds staff this summer. Unfortunately there was a scarcity of oil available from local garages and that delayed the scratch up/oil/sand/brush treatment. This year the grounds staff have rolled the browns before the final brush, following the trial that Phil Mulligan did on Clunis brown last year. The resulting putting surface is much improved with truer ball roll and better consistency. As well as binding the fresh sand, the oil is used to soften the baked sand base before scratching up and raking. Unfortunately the environmental directive means that much less oil may be used on any one brown. Consequently, the Grounds staff were unable to scratch up all the sand base on all browns, which has resulted in some shiny hard patches. A solution may be to soak the brown surface with irrigation water before scratching up. When a suitable opportunity has been identified, the work will be carried out. Roll on Artificial Turf greens!!! Retired Mal Boor JSGC [D] Grounds man 2007 to 2014 Finally and unfortunately, the Club is to lose a key member of the Ground staff this month. Mal Boor started as a casual labourer, to help prepare for the Festival of Golf, seven years ago. He has always worked hard and diligently, taking a pride in presenting the course in the best possible condition. He has decided to retire and return back to UK and he leaves with our sincere thanks and best wishes. John Harper Grounds Member 11

THE LEAD STORY Continued from the front page. Big Old Golfer gets it in the Head When TX2 became aware that big Bob Homer [Mem No 497] had been taken out by a golf ball big style, it immediately dispatched its top senior reporter to investigate the incident. TX2 found Mr Homer playing the 12 th [Leeway. 370 yards Par 4 SI 3] hacking his eighth shot towards the pond. However, the seasoned reporter suffered a heavy bout of uncontrollable laughter that prevented his quizzing the disgruntled head case that resulted in a Q&A compromise. The following is Mr Bob Homer s response to a set of unfair and unsympathetic questions. Q. When did the incident occur? A. St George s day 27 July 2014 Q. What time did it occur? A. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" about half an hour before the bar opened. Q. Which Hole were you playing at the time? A. The 13 th [Playing Field], lucky for some, not me! Q. What was the golfing occasion? A. A Sunday meet of the Tuesday/Thursday afternoon club. Q. Who done it? A. Many people think it was the butler - but I know it was George Colville (at least I think it was, my memory hasn t been the same since). Q. Were you ambulanced? A. No - I was banjaxed! We still had two holes to finish. Q. Which Hospital were you taken to? A. Eventually at the insistence of my wife Dawn: Paralimni General. Q. What treatment[s] did you receive? A. Top notch, within 20 minutes I was on the examination table with a young doctor mumbling 'knit one, pearl one' in Greek which turned out to be 4 stitches in the bonce. Q. How long were you hospitalised? A. About 3 hours, it was nearly an overnight for observation but I managed to convince them I was normal. 12

Q. Were you insured? A. Probably as I have so much personal insurance, but not with a specific golf insurance apart from that of the Golf Club (which I still need to investigate to see if there is some muzooma to be had from that.) Q. Did anyone give you mouth to mouth resuscitation? A. They all tried but I knew this Ebola thing was going round and I didn't want to get it again, so I refused. Q. Was the perpetrator apologetic? A. Yes, with a very large bottle of Glenmorangie A Nice Divot Q. When you do it again would you let me know and I'll buy a ticket. A. I'm planning it for next Spring - please send 50 for the ticket. Albeit no intelligent life was known to be harmed in the making of this article, they are a number of serious and important lessons within. For example, George Colville [Ex Artillery] hit a moving target with his first shot. Now that s impressive. TX2 would like to thank both Bob and George for their candid humour. A TRIBUTE TO THE LADY EX PAT S By Alan Banks Some seasons ago I wrote an article for our newsletter that, for political reasons, couldn t be published. However, what fell out of my sarcasm was the realisation that our girly members, and for that matter the girly nonmembers efforts in the smooth running of the Club were, in the main, unsung. Not being a wordsmith I pondered on how I could best sing the Club s appreciation of the ladies. And this is what I came up with I turned up on time for my tee-off and was greeted by a lovely lady with a smile and jolly banter who issued me with a bright red scorecard with my name and playing handicap on it. Just before my tee-off time, another pleasant lady gave a Starter s brief which explained the rules of play and how to fill the scorecard in. 13

I then stepped onto the first tee and started my game, everything was going according to plan until I reached the 48 Steps where my tee shot veered violently to the left and I thought that s torn it, or words to that effect. I then saw ladies scurrying towards where my ball had veered and to my relief I got a green flag. After chipping on and putting out we were escorted to the security gate by another delightful lady who unlocked the gate to let us through to Pickford Pylons. She said the locks are knackered, so we have to stand guard until the golf has finished. As a passing remark I asked How long have you been doing this, she replied about 4 hours. On the Road Hole, our three ball, still enjoying a good game, finished and crossed the road to be greeted by another lady who opened the security gate and welcomed us through with a mile wide smile and polite banter asking us what would we like to eat and drink. I ordered the healthy option of a fried egg and bacon roll with real butter and a cuppa tea with six sugars and a fiver out of the till. We continued on until we had finished the Leeway ending up at the Halfway House that was staffed by a gaggle of delightful and jolly ladies. I waded into my egg and bacon roll and cuppa. No sooner had I finished when one nice lady cleared my utensils cutlery and crockery away while another cleaned the dribble of egg off my chin and dusted the bread crumbs of my chest and sent me off to continue the round. I don t care what anyone says, you don t get that kind service in the YMCA. Further on, we reached the notorious McGill Hill where a 10 is a good score?! But I needn t have worried as there were more lovely ladies ball spotting. Thanks to them I got away with a 6. The same again on the Nunnery, more lady ball spotters and the same again on Switchback and Paradise Lost. I was beginning to think I could play this game blindfolded as there was always someone there to spot my ball. After finishing my round, scores were checked; card signed and put in the Comp Sec box, whereupon the scores were entered into the computer by another lovely lady. I then proceeded to the bar for a pint or three to await the results and prize giving. I wandered outside to look at the results board which was manned by more ladies busily writing in the scores. It looked promising. Will I get a prize? I asked. Not today Alan, one of the ladies replied, It s my day off. After freshening up I got ready and went for a drink with a couple of mates, one asked how did your day go, I said great, I played 18 holes, served breakfast, I was fussed and looked after by dozens of delightful ladies, I won a golf bag, had a smashing meal, a couple of drinks and I only spent 10 Euro!? "Crikey" they both said can we join. Thank you Ladies 14

JSGC [D] HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP AWARDS 2014 The Club Committee agreed the nominations for two senior gentlemen [Gentlemen in the loosest sense of the word] for honorary life membership this year as Mario Galpin and Malcom Newell. Other JSGC Dhekelia Honorary Life Members Maj P Lewis Mrs H McGill Mrs D Munro Mr D Wiles Mr D Edwards [USA] Mr R Burrows Mr D Wake Mr B Boomer Mr T Cook Mario Galpin. It was with great pleasure to present a letter from our Chairman, Captain Jim Sugrue, to Mario Galpin informing him that he had been selected for Honorary Membership status by the Executive Committee of the Joint Services Golf Club (Dhekelia). Mario has been a member for many years, and was a winner of the Cyprus Open in 1982 and Mario was totally overwhelmed when he read the letter. He expressed his sincere thanks to the Chairman with a telephone call. He has been unwell for the last couple of years, however we hope that he will be coming up to the Club to meet with new members and to catch up with all his old mates. On behalf of the Club we wish Mario well. Susie Rance. Lady Captain I have had many pleasant surprises in my life, but this one has been one of the greatest. I would never had guessed that when I first joined Dhekelia back in 1966 (my first ever golf club membership) I would receive the supreme honour of Honorary Membership 48 years later. It has solved the dilemma of whether to continue membership or not and has given me a new lease of life. I shall be pleased to join the exalted company of the Honorary Members and contribute in any way that I can still serve the Club. Yours sincerely. Malcolm Newell 15

GOLFER OF THE YEAR 2014 Golfer of the Year 2014 Phil Rowe Mr Paul Andronicou of Atlantic insurance presents Phil with the GOY award Ladies Golfer of the Year 2014 Randi Steele The Club Chairman Capt. Jim Sugrue presents Randi with LGOY Award Captain v Professional Season Opener By Mark Pegler Club Captain 2014/15 The 2014/15 golfing season got under way on Sunday 7 th September with the inaugural playing of the Captain v Professional match, with a twist! This competition was very generously sponsored by the Club Manager, who unfortunately, due to the season starting a month early, was not able to be in attendance. 37 golfers took part, playing 18 holes of stableford golf; the twist, they would not know which team they were playing for until the prize giving! 35

It is fair to say, our Club Professional had a shocker! Maybe he was overawed by playing with the Captain!! After a steady first 5 holes, he then proceeded to register 8 bogeys on the bounce! The Captain was playing bogey golf, with the odd 3 pointer thrown in for good measure. Things hit rock bottom for the Pro on Nunnery (16 th ), after smashing a drive straight down the middle of the fairway, he then decided to play a wrong ball not once, but twice! The galleries (1) following this match could not believe what they were witnessing. 18 holes completed, the 37 players retired to the bar for a well-earned cold drink and a sumptuous buffet superbly produced by Kim Laslett (very many thanks Kim). With the players fed and watered it was time for the prize giving. The Captain and Pro would pull out alternate cards and that score would then be added to their own running total, it was edge of the seat stuff but after all the scores were totalled the winner for 2014/15 was the CAPTAIN! Top Lady Golfer: Sharon Woodcock Nett 40 There were some outstanding scores on the day, but a special mention must go to Sharon Woodcock, who recorded a fantastic 40 points, which won Best Gent Golfer: Dave Carter Nett 37 her the prize of top lady golfer and a very large handicap cut! Dave Carter amassed 37 points, which saw him scoop the gent s prize. The Captain s winning team received a round of drinks courtesy of the sponsorship funds. From me and Tony, a massive thank you to all involved, for making this such a fun and enjoyable day. Mark 36

Always a tough course to negotiate due to the infamous Ay Nik Bounce! Prior to play the 12 man team received their instructions from the Captain - Let s still be in contention after round 1 ; simple instructions which were executed superbly by the team. A solid all-round performance saw JSGC (D) amass 252 points. 37

A couple of standout performance s on the day from Brian Rance who amassed a superb 37 Points and also Bob Homer who was playing the course for the very first time and scored a very impressive 36 points. 40 THE BALL SWEEP NEEDS YOU The Ball Sweep has been running every Wednesday for many years, boasting a large attendance for much of its existence. However, during the summer months the numbers naturally dwindle due to the relentless heat with many members escaping off island to cooler climes. That now said, the weather is now ideal for golf and the opportunity to prepare for forthcoming competition, trying out new clubs or skills in an informal, friendly environment. We look forward to increasing the attendance with returning members along with new members and guests. In particular, we would like to see more uniformed personnel joining in for a very pleasant afternoon of golf followed by a sociable drink in the Clubhouse. If you play on Wednesday afternoons, why not ask your spouse, with or without children, to meet you at the Clubhouse for a drink about 16:30. We would love to meet you and your families and you will meet a lot of members quickly. The Ball Sweep entry fee is 2 Euros. All money collected is spent on balls which are handed out as prizes. Even the player with the smallest score gets presented with the Turner Trophy and a bottle of premium beer. Tee time is 13:30 at this time of the year because of light restrictions. Regards Angelo Editor s end bits: I know what you re thinking; you re thinking Wow! This IS a big one. And you d be right of course. Why I hear you cry. Well I ll tell you. The reason is this; this edition is a combination of two, last season s closer and this season s opener. On top of which the Clubs 50 th anniversary and gala dinner has bulked it up somewhat. What is more, this double edition of TX2 benefited from a bumper input from the membership with reams of articles and photographs. Of which, TX2 would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your support. TX2 readership is invited to submit any articles of interest to be published in the next edition which should be about January-ish. Big thanks to Morgan John for proof reading this newsletter.
