Bank of Scotland (Glasgow) Golf Club 23rd February 2018 Annual General Meeting Pack Captain s Foreword The purpose of the pack is to provide you with details of the recently completed 2017 season of the Bank of Scotland (Glasgow) Golf Club, and information on the plans and proposals for the 2018 season. Whilst there will be an opportunity to invite questions from the floor on Friday 23rd February, I would urge members to raise any questions they might have with me or any member of the Committee in advance of the AGM. This will allow the majority of the evening to remain focused on enjoying the evening s festivities. Thank you for your continued support of the Club. Stuart Cameron Captain - Season

Minutes from the 2017 AGM The 102 nd Bank of Scotland (Glasgow) Golf Club Annual General Meeting was held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow on Friday 24 th February people attended and the format was a combined AGM and Dinner. Outgoing Captain, Eric Gibson took the Chair and provided a summary of the 2016 season Minutes of the 101 th AGM was proposed by the Captain and seconded by all in attendance. In passing the accounts the Captain thanks Ian Murchison for again auditing the Club Accounts. The Captain advised that no questions had been submitted in advance of the meeting and there were no questions from the floor. The Captain advised that the Club had raised 1,508 for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and together with matched funding would result 3,008 for the charity. A cheque for this amount will be presented to a member of the charity by Captain Eric Gibson and Vice-Captain Stuart Cameron. The outgoing Captain then handed over to Stuart Cameron as Captain for the 2017 Season. Stuart Cameron proposed Alan Turner as Vice-Captain for the 2017 Season. Stuart Cameron outlined the plans for the forthcoming season and also advised that The Charity for the Year would be Children s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS). Both outgoing and incoming Captains during proceedings acknowledged the support the Club received from Lloyds Banking Group. The Captains also expressed their appreciation to all the Committee members past and present for all their hard work on behalf of the Club. The meeting closed without any further business being raised and the Annual Dinner and Prize giving commenced. Donald Macleod Honorary Secretary 24 th February

2017 Season - Captain s Report Introduction Well, I m sure you will agree with me that, as members of Bank of Scotland (Glasgow) Golf Club, 2017 was an interesting and exciting year where we were met with a great combination of challenging venues, interesting weather, highs and lows on the course and plenty of hilarity along the way. We have taken the long-overdue steps to bring the club into the twenty-first century by introducing a fancy new website to make it easier for our members to find out about club news and events. This did present its own challenges, however, the committee worked admirably to resolve any teething issues quickly and we are really starting to see the value. In 2017, we have continued to slowly but surely attract new members and we are taking further steps in 2018 to raise the profile of the club within the bank and continue in this positive vein. We experienced mixed fortunes in the inter club team matches and these are reported in more detail later in the report. The handicap team managed a phenomenal comeback at Bruntsfield GC to retain the Stan Stevenson Trophy for the third consecutive year and the scratch team were narrowly beaten despite a fantastic start to the morning session. Unfortunately, I led the team that played in the Inter District at Gullane to the third runner-up spot (last place!), so the only way is up for 2018! The committee have recognised that the golfing landscape is changing and less of our members hold a club membership which would enable them to obtain a recognised handicap. We are proud to announce that we will be implementing a system where members without a recognised handicap will submit their strokeplay scores for outings attended, which will enable us to provide a recognised handicap. We will be able to share more information on this soon. There have been a couple of changes to the Committee in As advised last year, Iain Morrison re-joined at the start of 2017 and I am delighted to advise that Stuart Clark agreed to join the Committee towards the end of the year. The Committee now comprises of 4 current bank employees, 4 pensioners and 3 associate members. We are always on the lookout for new Committee members and if you are interested please speak to any of the Committee. The work that goes into running the Club is shared amongst the whole Committee and I would like to thank each and every one of them for their support throughout I am delighted to confirm that we will continue to receive support from Lloyds Banking Group in 2018, however, members should be aware that each year the committee require to jump through more and more hoops to obtain this financial support and there are no guarantees over the longer term. With this in mind, you can be assured that the committee will continue to conduct the Club s affairs in a prudent manner. We have much to remain proud of as members of Bank of Scotland (Glasgow) Golf Club and I look forward to another great year in

Finances I can report that we continue to have a healthy balance to carry forward into A copy of the financial statement for our Golf Club is included below for your perusal. We have now received confirmation from LBG that they will provide funding for the 2018 season. This will be on the same basis as that provided in last years. We always try to negotiate best prices with golf clubs, and the assistance given will allow us to continue to subsidise green fees for Members at our outings. There are no guarantees about what the future holds for funding in 2019 and beyond but with a healthy balance to carry forward at the moment and the funds built up in the 200 Club, the Club s finances are strong. With regards to subscriptions, may I remind all members that the annual subscription is and this should be paid by the 20 th March. Please can I ask all members to check their Standing Order instructions for both amount and due date and make any necessary alterations. If you wish to check details of how to pay please refer to the standing order mandate which will be included in your members' pack which will be issued in early March. You must pay your subscription to be eligible to play in outings, competitions and any team matches. I would like to thank Ian Murchison for continuing to audit our financial affairs. 6 Charity of the Year Back in 2015, we agreed that we should introduce the concept of a Charity of the Year. In 2015 we raised 1,300 for The Brain Tumour Charity. In 2016 we raised 1,508 for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland. And in 2017, we have raised 1055 for Children s Hospice Association Scotland. This amount will be doubled through matched funding from Lloyds Banking Group. A cheque for 2,110 will be presented to the Charity shortly. The charity for the year for 2018 will be Glasgow Children s Hospital Charity. 168,000 babies, children and young people are treated at the The Royal Hospital for Children every year. Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity sits firmly at the heart of the hospital, raising money to ensure that their young patients and their families receive the best possible care. They focus on: Enhanced Medical Equipment; Innovative Play Programmes; Family Support Services and Ground breaking Paediatric Research. You can find out more about the charity at ww.glasgowchildrenshospitalcharity.org As we enjoy our golf in 2018, I am sure we will also get some satisfaction from again supporting such a worthwhile cause. Representative Matches The year started off in April with the combined Stan Stevenson and East West Scratch matches hosted by the Edinburgh team at the very well presented Bruntsfield Golf Club. The format of combining the two events into one day again worked well and I am sure that this will continue for the foreseeable future. Overall we have to be delighted that we managed to retain the Stan Stevenson for the third consecutive year but disappointed that the Scratch Cup eluded us once again. It was a closely fought match with a final score of in favour of the Edinburgh Club brings a new opportunity for us to go all out and try to win the double on our own turf. Fingers crossed that we are celebrating in 2018! The 2017 Inter District was hosted by Edinburgh Club at Gullane. The weather was wet and blustery but the courses remained in good condition for the representatives of all the regional clubs. Sadly, some exceptional scoring by the other teams meant that we finished last. We know just how difficult it is for people to get time away from work & family commitments, even for such priorities as golf. As a relatively small Club we have some difficulties in getting a full complement for all the inter district events, so my sincere thanks to all who represented the Club throughout the year. The Robert Clark Trophy and Bank Strokeplay Championship This combined event was hosted by the Dundee Club and played over Blairgowrie Golf Club s fantastic courses. The weather was exceptional and both courses were in excellent condition. Although we were well represented in both competitions it just wasn't to be our day. However, Calum Maclean managed to secure second place in The Bank Championship; well done to Calum. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who qualified for the event and represented the club. 6

Matchplay Competitions Our competitions were reasonably well supported but it would be good to see more members playing in these events. It was good to see the majority of ties played on time. However, members are reminded, that when they enter a competition, they do so with the intention to fulfil the tie. It greatly reduces the quality of the competition if you enter but then forfeit without playing. So for season 2018 if you enter the competition, then please do try and play your tie and within the allotted time!! Our three flagship club competition finals were played at Kilmarnock Barassie, albeit that, despite best efforts, they were not all played on the same day. This year's Club Championship was won by Calum Maclean who defeated Greig Cross in a close match. In this year s Gairdner trophy, we had Derek Davidson competing against Robert McIlroy. Derek went on to win the match. The Jubilee trophy, in what was the fourth year under its four-ball format, had Derek Davidson & David Morrison competing against Stuart Cameron & Calum Maclean. It was a closely contested event with Derek & David the winners. Congratulations to all the winners and to the runners up. Outings As tradition dictates we started our 2017 season on Good Friday at Glasgow Gailes which never fails to deliver for the club. We had a fantastic turnout of 43 albeit only 4 ventured out for a 2 nd round in the afternoon. The weather was particularly kind to us and it remained dry throughout the day. While early season the course was in good condition and it was a fantastic start to our season! For the May Bank holiday, we took ourselves to Southernness. The weather forecast for the day was horrendous and compared to how it could have been, it was mainly dry albeit with very strong winds. Not ideal but all the golfers achieved respectable scores in these testing conditions. The numbers playing were lower than expected but those that did play thoroughly enjoyed the course. Like last year we did not hold an outing at the end of May. Instead, for the second year now, we had a mid-summer evening outing to Whitecraigs Golf Club. The numbers were slightly better than last year s evening outing and we have learned some more lessons which we will again use to improve the evening outing in The Club looked after us well, the course was in great condition and the weather was good. In line with long standing tradition we again returned to Killermont in early August and enjoyed another excellent day's golf over a delightful venue and in great weather. As always the Killermont Club looked after us exceptionally well. The August Bank holiday outing saw us venture up the east coast to Cruden Bay. Despite some rather windy conditions, the weather held up for us on what is a fantastic golf course. The course facilities were excellent and the beautiful clubhouse overlooks the many intriguing holes and some spectacular panoramic views of Slains Castle and the beautiful coastline. All attending commented on how much they 7

enjoyed the day - I m sure that this is a venue that we will return to in the years to come. Our Finals Day outing was again held at Kilmarnock Barassie in September albeit, due to other commitments it had to be played over 3 days. Despite being drizzly for most of the day, the course was, again, in great condition and the club looked after us well. We will again endeavour to play all finals on the same day in 2018 and are currently deciding on the best venue. For the second time now we had an outing in October and organised this for a Sunday at Largs Golf Club. With horrendous weather forecast we took the decision to delay the event by a week and although the weather was still patchy, the course remained in good condition and we saw some great golf played on the day. We will continue to run an October outing in Since its inception, our visit to West Kilbride has been a great success and our visit in 2017 was no exception. Despite the time of year, the West Kilbride outing was again the best attended outing of the 2017 season. It was a very cold day but, again, the course was in fantastic condition and benefitted from the work completed in A great end to our golfing year and we will be back again at West Kilbride in West Kilbride also saw the end of our, Race to West Kilbride. The competition is won by the player who achieves the highest cumulative stableford score from any 5 of our outings. The competition was closely contested and we will be running it again in Congratulations to all our prize winners and thanks to each and every member who managed to attend one or more outings looks like being another year of great outings, so please support the Club as best you can and give your Committee the continuing headache of handling the high numbers of members wishing to attend. Outings for 2018: Friday 30 th March Monday 7 th May Wednesday 20 th June (evening) Friday 3 rd August Monday 27 th August Sunday 7 th Oct Tuesday 27 th November Glasgow Gailes Gleneagles, Kings Course Pollok Killermont Castle Course, St Andrews Ranfurly Castle West Kilbride In addition, the Finals of the Club Competitions are scheduled to take place on Sunday 16th September. We will confirm the venue for this soon. We will also run the Race to West Kilbride competition and will continue the format used this year where we will count the best 5 scores from the 7 outings. Hopefully this will allow a good number of members to compete for the top 4 spots as it allows for up to 2 outings being missed. 8
