Gina Yoder-Davies - PREVIEW Cullowhee, N.C. - With the 24-team field set, the Western Carolina Lady Catamount golf team is preparing to host the Sixth-Annual Wachovia-Great Smokies Intercollegiate at the par 72, 5,828-yard Waynesville Country Club in Waynesville, N.C. The event, one of -- if not the -- largest women s intercollegiate golf tournaments in the nation, starts on Sunday, October 17 with practice rounds and a dinner at the club. The first and second rounds will follow Monday and Tuesday, October 18-19, with shotgun starts at 9:30 and 9:00 am each day on the Carolina and Blue Ridge courses. Scoring will include the Top Four players from each squad. Three teams have taken the team title in the first five years of the event. Tennessee Tech won the crown back-toback in 1999 and 2000, with Elon securing the 2001 title. The host Lady Catamounts have brought home the top prize each of the past two years, shooting a tournament record-low 586 en route to the title in 2002 and just missing their own record last year with a two-round total of 592. All three previous tournament team champions will tee it up this year. The field includes defending, and two-time champion, Brandy Andersen of Western Carolina, who holds the tournament records for lowest single (66 in Round 1, 2002) and two-round (66-75=141 in 2002) scores. Andersen also holds the distinction of tallying a hole-in-one on Number Four on the Carolina Course (Par 3, 140 yards) in The Lady Cats have won the individual portion of the event each of the past three years, with Tennessee Tech s Cherry Bevis and Kylie Crouch medaling in 2000 and 1999, respectively. The two-round event is open to the pubic. Wachovia - Great Smokies Intercollegiate... Page 1

There are three starting tees, making each 9 holes play from as little as to 2245 yards to as much as 2969 yards.
