5 FESCUE is also suitable for divotting and renovation of high quality tees and fairways. FESCUE is an outstanding blend of four red fescue cultivars; Viktorka, Barcrown, Barlineus and Bargreen II, for the overseeding and construction of free-draining fine turf. The mixture is made up of 50% slender red creeping fescue and 50% Chewings red fescue seed. The combination of these two sub-species offers the best solution for year-round performance and growth in fescue-dominant turf s will generally be most active in spring through to mid-summer, whereas slender creepers kick in during early summer and perform well through to autumn. Table 1 shows the performance of the cultivars in the BSPB Turfgrass Seed Booklet FESCUE contains both the top-rated Chewings (Barlineus -25%) and slender creeping (Viktorka -25%) varieties. Old favourite Barcrown (25%) the #3-ranked slender creeper and still the best red fescue for Red Thread tolerance, and Bargreen II (25%), the #7-ranked Chewings cultivar, complete the blend. In Barenbrug laboratory trials, Bargreen II and Barcrown also exhibit excellent resistance to Fusarium and Dollar Spot, respectively. % Table 1: Scoring and ranking of FESCUE cultivars from Turfgrass Seed 2018 for golf greens use. 6 FAIRWAY is an excellent blend of four fine fescue species; hard fescue and the three sub-species of red fescue; slender creeping, strong creeping and Chewings. Designed for overseeding, divoting and constructing free-draining turf areas on the golf course. Hardtop hard fescue offers superior performance under many stress factors associated with turf areas that this blend is used for, which includes; drought, heat, cold and low nutrition. This was highlighted in an extensive trial in conjunction with the STRI that looked at grass mixture performance under low input maintenance (6-7mm mowing height, low nutrition, brushing). Under low input parameters a seed blend of 30% hard fescue, 70% red fescue outperformed a more traditional option of 100% red fescue (see Figure 1). The mix with hard fescue maintained higher proportions of fescue (i.e. less Poa annua invasion) during the trial. The red fescue cultivars are all consistent performers, and highly ranked in BSPB Turfgrass Seed Of particular note is the outstanding red thread tolerance of Barcrown (ranked #1 all red fescue cultivars), an important factor in fairways under low nutrition. Figure 1: Fescue composition of 100% red fescue and 30% hard: 70% red fescue plots after over four years trialling under a low input maintenance regime. Formerly BAR 20 FAIRWAY. 20% hard fescue 35% strong creeping red fescue 30% slender creeping red fescue 15% Chewings red fescue Strong creeping red fescue 15% Overseeding, divoting and/or construction of free-draining turf areas; tees, fairways and roughs Hardtop for performance Key points under low nutrition and drought Sowing rate 20-35g per m² Mowing height down to 7mm SHORELINE is an innovative blend of three slender creeping red fescue cultivars; the name SHORELINE is derived from the Latin litoralis, the species name for slender creepers. The mix contains the #1-ranked variety Viktorka alongside long-established cultivars Barmalia and Barpearl. The mix provides superior salt tolerance for fescue dominant turf on links and seaside golf courses exposed to salt spray and salt-laden winds. It is suitable for the construction and overseeding of all free-draining areas exposed to salt. Salt tolerance is a complex issue. Most salt stress issues experienced on golf courses throughout the UK and Ireland are caused by salt spray and/or salt laden winds. Problems associated with high salinity soils are much more complex, and more difficult to manage due to the ability of varying soil particles to attract salt under differing environmental conditions. The grass plant s response to salt stress can vary significantly during its life cycle. The plant s capabilities at different stages, from germination to established sward must therefore be tested to realise any practical solutions for a dedicated grass seed mix. Germination salt tolerance is tested in a laboratory using ISTA parameters at different salt levels equivalent to sea water of 20,000 and 30,000 parts per million (ppm), with 0ppm as a control. Laboratory trials at Barenbrug research demonstrate the superior germination capability of cultivars of slender creeping red fescues (Festuca rubra litoralis) in comparison with cultivars of s (Festuca rubra commutata). The data represents percentage germination after 30 days at 0ppm (control), 20,000ppm and 30,000ppm - See Figure 1. Tests on established grass plants are carried out in two distinct environments, in a glasshouse grown in rootzone and secondly in field trial sites in native soils and imported rootzones in locations naturally exposed to salt stress. Slender creeping red fescue again generally demonstrates superior salt tolerance in comparison with s - See Pictures 1 & 2 Germnation of fescues in salt trials ,000 ppm 90 20,000 ppm 0 ppm Bargreen Baruba Baroxi Barbirdie Barswing Bargreen II Barcrown Barpearl Viktorka Barmalia Figure 1: Laboratory Test of germination of slender creeping red fescue and. 7 YELLOW JACKET WATER MANAGER Game-changer for golf courses. Available with FESCUE and FAIRWAY. Yellow Jacket Water Manager is a game-changing seed enhancement product that improves germination and seedling survival in tough environments. The patented technology is the result of a research project by Barenbrug and Aquatrols and has been independently tested by the STRI. AREAS OF USE Divoting Newly sown areas on sand-based rootzone Oversowing fairways and greens Available with Products 15kg FESCUE FAIRWAY Successfully trialled by four Open Championship venues in Craig Boath from Carnoustie Championship course, home to the Open Championship in 2018, says, Barenbrug Yellow Jacket Water Manager has taken the sting out of overwatering landing areas on the fairways and par 3 tees. It is clear it does not require as much water for germination due to the coating, which seems to hold on to moisture and trigger a quicker germination. No water, no germination -- Yellow Jacket Water Manager ensures precisely the right balance of moisture for both optimum germination and establishment -- Delivers improved germination and establishment in drier environments -- Ensures an optimum moisture balance during both the seed s germination and the plant s establishment, even under extreme conditions -- A 15kg bag equals 7.5kg seed and 7.5kg of coating -- Improves water management enabling higher survival rates of seeds and seedlings, which more than compensate for a reduction in seed number when identical seeding rates by weight are employed -- In other words, the same VOLUME of seed/product produces better results! Plant Survival Zone Water Manager Zone Phase 1: Water distributes the Water Manager throughout the soil to create a Plant Survival Zone. 12 Phase 2: The Plant Survival Zone ensures that each seed has enough water to germinate and manages the moisture content around the seeding during its establishment. Phase 3: The grass seedlings are less affected by abiotic stress, so more plants survive. 13

8 ALL BENT is a 100% browntop bentgrass blend designed for overseeding and species exchange in golf and bowling greens. The blend contains three cultivars; Charles, Heriot and BarKing. Charles is a new NZ-bred variety, named after Sir Bob Charles, the first left-handed golfer to win a major. Like Sir Bob, it breaks new ground, being ranked #1 by a clear half-point in Turfgrass Seed 2018 Table G1 (see Figure 1)! Its scores for visual merit and shoot density promise to have a major impact as part of a species exchange programme, improving golf greens and out-competing the ubiquitous Poa annua. BarKing is ranked #5, is an excellent European-bred cultivar with superior wear tolerance and winter colour. It also possesses very good tolerance to Microdochium Patch disease (Fusarium). Barenbrug recently published results of an extensive four-year trial assessed independently by the STRI, which highlighted the benefits of using capillaris cultivar BarKing instead of other bentgrass species in the UK and Ireland. Figure 2 shows the extent of annual meadowgrass (Poa annua) ingression into golf green plots after four years of standard maintenance and wear. In Figure 2, a green sown with (BAR) ALL BENT contained less than 10% Poa at the end of the trial, compared to more than double that for creeping bentgrass cultivars Penn G6 and Bengal. GRASS EXPERTS SINCE 1904 CLASSIC 80:20 is a traditional mix of fescue and bentgrass designed to deliver a consistent and balanced blend of these species when sowing out new fine-turf areas such as golf and bowling greens. The fescue part of the mixture is made up of equal portions of slender red creeping fescue and Chewings red fescue seed. The combination of these two sub-species offers the best solution for year-round performance and growth in fescue-dominant turf s will generally be most active in spring through to midsummer, whereas slender creepers kick in during early summer and perform well through to autumn. Table 1 shows the performance of the fescue cultivars in the BSPB Turfgrass Seed CLASSIC 80:20 contains both the top-rated Chewings (Barlineus - 20%) and slender creeping (Viktorka - 20%) varieties. BarKing is the variety of browntop bentgrass in the mixture. It is an excellent European-bred cultivar with superior wear tolerance and winter colour. Figure 1 shows the extent of annual meadowgrass (Poa annua) ingression into golf green plots after four years of maintenance and wear. In Figure 1, a green sown with CLASSIC 80:20 contained 7% (standard maintenance) and 3% (low input maintenance) Poa at the end of the trial compared to 30% and 10%, respectively, for a green sown with 80% fescue:20% Highland bentgrass. % Table 1: Scoring and ranking of the fescue cultivars in CLASSIC 80:20 from Turfgrass Seed 2018 for golf greens use. 15 RPR STADIUM is a highly researched blend of three hard-wearing perennial ryegrasses for the renovation and construction of elite winter sports pitches. Four years of dedicated wear trials at our research station Cropvale in Worcestershire, together with close analysis of BSPB Turfgrass Seed and the official French list as well as data from our breeding stations across the globe has delivered a blend focussed on four key traits for elite stadium pitches wear tolerance, dark genetic colour, (Drechslera) disease tolerance and recovery. The wear trials at Cropvale are run annually in line with the football season, and are assessed via an objective method called Digital Image Analysis (DIA). A camera box takes images of trial plots on a monthly basis and DIA enables the production of extremely accurate data on both wear tolerance and genetic colour for both cultivars and critically, mixture formulations. 16 SMOOTH SPORT is a mixture of perennial ryegrass and smooth-stalked meadowgrass for the construction of winter sports pitches and equestrian surfaces. It is recommended to allow at least three months for the smooth-stalked meadowgrass to establish. All three cultivars are ranked in the top-10 of their respective tables, and the blend has an outstanding score of Eurosport and Barorlando are both highly rated in BSPB Turfgrass Seed 2018 Table S1 (7.8 & 7.6) Bariris is highly rated in BSPB Turfgrass Seed 2018 Table S2 (7.1) Formerly BAR 8 80% perennial ryegrass 20% smooth-stalked meadowgrass Smooth-stalked meadowgrass Construction of winter sports pitches with long establishment window Eurosport and Barorlando highly rated in BSPB Turfgrass Seed 2018 Table S1 (7.8 & 7.6) Key points Bariris highly rated in BSPB Turfgrass Seed 2018 Table S2 (7.1) Sowing rate 30-50g per m² Oversowing rate 15-30g per m² Mowing height down to 15mm SOS is designed to give the fastest possible germination, establishment and growth for emergency repair or divoting sports turf and racecourses. Barterra is the latest generation amenity annual ryegrass that will germinate at temperatures as low as 3.5 C, making it the ideal tool to maintain grass cover throughout the winter. Barenbrug research shows that amenity annual ryegrasses germinate more quickly and at lower temperatures than perennial ryegrass, including tetraploid varieties. Figure 1 illustrates the speed at which SOS can establish and restore a sward when it is overseeded in January at a soil temperature of 6.2 C. One month into the trial the grass cover has recovered from 20% to more than 60%. Bardorado is partnered with Barterra to give a longer-term solution within the mix as it is a perennial ryegrass with good performance characteristics, wear tolerance and disease tolerance. It is specifically chosen, as trials have proven that Bardorado germinates particularly well at low temperatures for a perennial ryegrass (down to 5 C, and quickly at 7-10 C; 90% germination in a 14-day trial see Figure 2). Barenbrug research favours the use of a hard-wearing diploid perennial rather than a tetraploid alternative as a partner to annual ryegrasses for winter grass seed mixtures. 17 RPR SPRINT is a 100% perennial ryegrass seed mixture specifically formulated for the unique demands of racecourses. Fast establishment, strong and robust growth and superior recovery from wear are the key requirements when renovating or divoting turf on a racecourse. A major difference between equestrian surfaces and other sports is the mowing height at which the sward is maintained. The BSPB Turfgrass Seed 2018 trials grasses at 4-7mm, and 25mm, which is of little practical use to racecourse grounds managers. RPR SPRINT is designed to be maintained at 60mm+ height of cut, which allows broader-leafed and faster growing varieties to be utilised (see Figure 1). Copeland is actually a forage perennial, but one with excellent sward density, leaf spot tolerance and persistency. Barillion and Bareuro have superior wear tolerance properties and excellent recovery at higher heights of cut. Barclay II is a Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass (RPR) that produces stolons as it establishes and grows. Figure 2 shows a RPR plant grown for a single seed at 15 months old. The stolons and new secondary branches of growth can be seen clearly. The lateral growth habit results in fast establishment between seeding lines, unparalleled capacity for recovery from wear, and additional traction strength in the sward. 18 SMOOTH SPORT is a mixture of perennial ryegrass and smooth-stalked meadowgrass for the construction of winter sports pitches and equestrian surfaces. It is recommended to allow at least three months for the smooth-stalked meadowgrass to establish. The mixture is formulated primarily on performance in the BSPB Turfgrass Seed 2018; specifically, Tables S1 and S2 under sports wear simulation. SOS Establishment in January Figure 1: SOS establishment in January 50% perennial ryegrass 50% annual ryegrass Overseeding and repair of sports turf and racecourses in cool temperatures Barterra annual ryegrass germinates, establish and grows faster than perennial ryegrasses.
