Bioforsk involvemet in turfgrass trials with variety testing Turgrass meeting for breeders and representatives for turfgrass seed companies, Bioforsk Landvik, Norway, September Bjørn Molteberg and Trygve S. Aamlid, Bioforsk (Norwegian Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Research)
The main subjects in this speech are: Our Nordic Turfgrass Cultivar Guide from 2007 A short summary from the STERF project testing of turfgrass varieties for use on Scandinavian golfgreens Preliminary results from the STERF project testing of turfgrass varieties for use on Scandinavian golfgreens Final results from the Scandinavian Turf Grass Testing ( Preliminary results from the Scandinavian Turf Grass Testing ( Some recommendations
"Nordic Turfgrass Cultivar Guide, 2007 Recommeded varieties to green, fairway/tee, lawn, fotball pitch and low-maintenance grassland Recommdations based on all turfgrass variety trials in Scandinavia during the last 20 years Recommendations are differentiated between the two climatic zones of Scandinavia 289 varieties are mentioned by name, 177 varieties discussed in detail, and 104 varieties are recommended
"Nordic Turfgrass Cultivar Guide, 2007 Our plans were to revise the Cultivar Guide every three to four years (it means 2010 or 2011). Is this still interesting? More cultivar projects are or will soon be completed and the results are/will be available It s a big job to this revision In 2007 the guide was mainly funded by the Scandinavian Turfgrass and Environment Research Foundation (STERF). What happends now? Do we have other fund partners? Seed companies? In 2007 we published the guide in nordic language. What about a english version? What do you think about this?
The first STERF project Testing of turfgrass varieties for use on Scandinavian golfgreens was carried out from 2003 and to the end of 2006 Main objective To clarify which varieties of Agrostis and Festuca are best suited for golf greens in two contrasting climates in Scandinavia Funded of number of and by entrance fees from a breeding- and seed companies

The variety green at Keldnaholt, 18 September 2008 after reseeding in May.(Photo: Gudni Thorvaldsson) Problems: 2007 late sowing, tough autumn and winter (windy) 2008 late green-up and resowing, just maintained like a lawn 2009 Wintersurvial OK, but not real green, before august - only few results
The variety green at Apelsvoll, 5 May Great differences in winter survival. (Photo: Bjørn Molteberg) Problems: 2007 OK 2008 Nice winter damages, resowing, OK % killed of ice and water (snowmelting), reseeded the whole green. The values are weighed 1/5 on the sowing year and 3/5 on the first and 1/5 second green years
