LOCAL RULES. Out of Bounds (Rule 27-) (a) Beyond any line of white stakes bordering the course including any part of the Academy Course. (b) To the right hand side of the th fairway beyond the white markers. (c) In or beyond the River Trent. (d) On or beyond the Clubhouse patio to the rear of the 8th green. (e) Beyond the path to the right of the 8th green. (f) The ditch behind the th green is a lateral water hazard, beyond this hazard is out of bounds. 2. Obstructions (Rule 2) including: (a) Staked trees: A free drop at the nearest point of relief MUST be taken to avoid damage to saplings (b) Stones in bunkers are deemed to be movable obstructions (c) Both red and yellow stakes marking hazards are moveable obstructions and players are entitled to relief from them under rule 2-. (d) The white posts defining out of bounds to the right of the th hole that are placed on the rd & 5th holes are to be regarded as immoveable obstructions when playing the rd and 5th holes only, and relief may be taken from them.. Integral Parts of the Course No constructions on the course are deemed to be integral parts of the course.. Lost Balls All balls lost or abandoned within the confines of the course become the property of Branston Golf and Country Club. 5. Water Hazards (a) Behind the 9th Green is a lateral water hazard. (b) The ditch behind the th green is a lateral water hazard and beyond this hazard is out of bounds. 6. Overhead Lines A ball striking any overhead power line MUST be abandoned and replayed without penalty. 7. Smartphones Smartphone GPS applications are allowed in Qualifying Competitions provided the smartphone does not contain an anemometer or thermometer and the player does not use the smartphone to attempt to actively measure or gauge specific current weather conditions at Branston at the time of playing. 8. When playing the 8th hole, if a ball is in or it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in the lateral water hazard by the 9th green, the player may: (a) proceed under Rule 26-; or (b) as an additional option, drop a ball, under penalty of one stroke, in the dropping zone. Additionally, when playing either the 9th or 8th holes, if a ball comes to rest on either of the two bridges and the path that connect the 9th and 8th green, the player may: (a) proceed under Rule 26-; or (b) proceed under Rule -; or (c) as an additional option, drop a ball, without penalty, in the dropping zone. 9. Embedded Balls (a) On greens and closely mown areas, a ball that is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground may be lifted, without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not Branston Fixture-Diary March-Feb 205.indd 0 2/02/205 09:6

nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green. (b) Additionally, when Winter Rules are in effect relief may be taken through the green.. Professionals If spaces are available, Professional golfers may enter non-drawn and non-major competitions run by the Club and pay the appropriate fee but cannot win the competition and their cards must not be included in the calculation of Competition Standard Scratch. Penalty for breach of Local Rule: Match Play - Loss of Hole; Stroke Play - Two Strokes. NOTES ON LOCAL RULES Rule 2- provides for moveable obstructions to be moved without penalty. All pylons, the metal post, wire stay and concrete footing slab to the left of the th hole, the President s Way construction between the 2th and 7th holes and the concrete pillar box to the left of the th hole were previously defined as integral parts of the course but have now been redefined by the Committee as obstructions. Rule 26- provides for relief under penalty from a water hazard. Rule - provides for prohibited actions concerning a ball in a hazard and Decision -/0 defined a bridge over a water hazard as an obstruction within a hazard, enabling a player to ground their ground while playing the ball as it lies. OBSTRUCTIONS Obstructions are either moveable or immovable: if you can move them they are moveable if you can t move them then they are immoveable. If an obstruction is moveable and you move it, you must always put it back again afterwards. The only exception to this is if they are specifically defined in either the Rules of Golf or Local Rules. For instance, one of our Local Rules states that all red and yellow hazard markers are moveable obstructions and that the white posts defining out of bounds to the right of the th hole that are placed on the rd and 5th holes are to be regarded as immovable obstructions on those holes. If an obstruction is immovable and you take relief from it, you are entitled to take a free drop up to one club length from the nearest point of relief the nearest, not the nicest! and the ball must roll no more than two club-lengths after it hits the ground. Relief from an obstruction is ONLY available if the ball lies on or in the obstruction or if the obstruction interferes with the player s stance or the area of his swing. You CANNOT claim line of sight from an obstruction. Line of sight relief may be granted by the Committee for temporary structures (such as the gazebo that is often situated around the 0th tee on Captain s, Lady Captain s and President s Day) but this will always be detailed as part of the competition rules on the day of the competition. The following are all obstructions at Branston All pylons The metal post, wire stay and concrete footing slab to the left of the th hole The President s Way construction between the 2th and 7th holes The concrete pillar box to the left of the th hole Branston Fixture-Diary March-Feb 205.indd 2/02/205 09:6

(These first four were previously defined as integral parts of the course but have now been redefined by the Committee as obstructions) The Halfway House, including the stairs leading to the toilets Paths (including their concrete edging) Bridges (except those parts of a bridge that are within hazard lines: in this case the ball can be played and the club grounded) Footpath marker posts Distance marker slabs set into the fairways Sprinkler heads Direction signs and posts Information signs and banners Ball washers Tee stones Seats and benches The white posts defining out of bounds to the right of the th hole that are placed on the rd and 5th holes (defined under our Local Rules as immovable) Yellow and red hazard markers (defined under our Local Rules as moveable) Distance marker posts Divot boxes Tee markers N.B. Other than the ones to the right of the th hole that are placed on the rd and 5th holes and are dealt with above, all white posts defining Out of Bounds are not obstructions they are defined by the Rules of Golf as Integral Parts of the Course and you do not get relief from them. COURSE ETIQUETTE If there is a breach of protocol the Golf Team have the right to ask a player to leave the course. In the case of a visitor or guest this will be without a refund of the green fee. Please observe the following: General Play: In the interest of all, players should play without delay. No player should play until the players in front are out of range. Green Fees: A visitor or guest must be a regular golfer and behave in accordance with the rules of the Club regarding dress and order of play. All visitors and guests are required to have a competence of play before being allowed on the 8 hole golf course. The appropriate green fee must be paid prior to the round and all visitors and guests must display their tag on their golf bag to indicate that they have paid their fee. The Club reserves the right to refuse players onto the course at any time. Membership Bag Tags: Members should display their bag tag prominently in order for the Golf Team to properly check it without disturbing your play. Tees: All general play must be off the yellow tees unless prior permission is given by the Director of Golf, who will notify the Golf Lodge. Visitors and Guests: The same visitor or guest is not permitted to play the 8 hole golf course Branston Fixture-Diary March-Feb 205.indd 2 2/02/205 09:6

more than six times in any one calendar year whether playing with a member or not. Arrival Time: Please arrive promptly on the st tee ten minutes before the allocated tee off time, in this way the Golf Lodge will be able to verify each player s arrival and ensure that everyone tees off on time. Please do not practice on the tee areas. Equipment: The sharing of golf clubs on any part of the course is not permitted. Please take care not to be heavy-handed when placing bags on the ground. Golf Buggies: In order to hire a buggy a driver must possess a full driving license. No more than two persons are to share a buggy and there should be a maximum of two golf bags on the back. The pulling of trolleys behind a buggy is not permitted. Trolleys, buggies or golf bags are not to be taken on to the tees or the greens or their perimeters. Mobile Phones: Mobile phones should not be used to make calls (other than emergency calls) on the golf course, in the Clubhouse or on the patio overlooking the 8th Green. Bunkers: Please fully rake the bunkers after a bunker shot has been taken and place the rake completely inside the bunker. Trolleys: Do not take trolleys onto tee boxes or the fringes of the greens and do not take trolleys between bunkers and greens. Divots: Players should ensure that any turf cut or displaced by them is replaced at once and pressed down, except on the tees where these should be smoothed and reseeded using the sand provided. In the growing season divot bags are available beside both the first and tenth tees: please take at least one bag per round and repair any unfilled divots you see. Pitchmarks: These should be repaired using a pitchmark repairer. These can be purchased from the Academy or Golf Lodge prior to the commencement of play. Lost Balls: Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not easily be found and should not search for five minutes before doing so. Players shall avoid slow play at all times. Speed of Play: Slow play is frustrating for everyone so players are asked always to keep up with the group in front of them. If a group loses more than one hole in front and the group behind is close then they must be invited to play through. Halfway House: The Rules of Golf are strict about continuity of play without undue delay so, especially in competitions, if you stop at the Halfway House please make every effort to move to the tenth tee as quickly as possible. Greenkeeping Staff: The greenkeeper s have priority on the course. Please respect them while they are doing their work and they will endeavour, if at all possible, not to disrupt a game. Please show the same consideration to them as would be shown to other golfers using the course at the same time. Juniors: Under-2s must be accompanied by an adult at all times while on the golf course.. GOLFERS DRESS CODE Hats or headwear are to be worn the correct way round. Shorts: Tailored shorts only are permitted. Shorts with side pockets on the outside are NOT allowed on the course. Trousers: Tailored or golfing trousers only are permitted. Denims, cut-offs, three-quarter trousers, tracksuit bottoms or combat trousers with pockets on the outside are NOT allowed on the course. Trousers must not be tucked into socks. Only soft-spiked golf shoes may be worn and trainers are NOT allowed. Gents: Shirts must have sleeves, a collar or a polo neck and must be tucked in at all times. No football, slogan shirts or tee shirts are allowed. Branston Fixture-Diary March-Feb 205.indd 2/02/205 09:6

Ladies: Shirts/blouses may be worn outside of the skirt/trousers if they are designed to be worn that way. TEE TIME BOOKING PROCEDURES The Club s aim is to maximise the number of tee times available and give members the best opportunity possible of getting his or her preferred tee time. The name and membership number of each individual must be stated when booking. Any use of a false name will lead to immediate suspension of membership for an indefinite period. The Club reserves the right to make up games into fourball matches and single players hold no booking rights unless joining a twoball or threeball match that is already booked, or unless there are no part-booked time slots available: in such cases a singles list will be compiled by the Golf Lodge staff to fill slots that become available. Members may book up to days in advance. The booking sheet for the date days ahead will be released when the Golf Lodge opens every morning. Booking is restricted to one tee time slot for four named players. Members guests qualify for a reduced rate and the appropriate green fee must be paid prior to playing. If the Golf Lodge is closed, members should report to Reception or the Academy to pay the appropriate fee before playing. The Member will be liable to pay the green fee for any guest not honouring a pre-booked tee time. All members are required to display their relevant bag tag when playing either of the courses. Their guests will also be given a registration card to display on their bag upon payment of the relevant green fee. Cancellation of bookings can be made at any time of the day or night (there is an answering machine in the Golf Lodge) as long as the cancellation is made at least two hours before the tee time. Tel Any member not honouring a pre-booked tee time will be reminded by letter that they are expected to make a cancellation. Any repeat of this within twelve months will require an explanation in writing to the Director of Golf. Failure to give such written explanation for absence will result in the member s booking privileges being withdrawn for one month. Inclement weather will not normally be considered a reason for non-arrival, unless the course is closed. (So even if it is pouring down with rain players who do not intend playing must still phone to cancel their tee time). Every member must inform the Golf Lodge of their arrival before teeing-off and will be expected to register at least ten minutes before their tee time... HOLE POSITION FLAGS Our hole flags are colour coded to illustrate the position of the hole on the green: WHITE - Back of green YELLOW - Middle of green RED - Front of green HOW TO ENTER A CLUB COMPETITION Detailed information on all competitions can be found on the golf notice board. You are required to hold a CONGU handicap before you may enter any competition. Branston Fixture-Diary March-Feb 205.indd 2/02/205 09:6

In order or regain a competition handicap a player must return either three qualifying scorecards or three supplementary scorecards or a combination of the two during the previous 2 months. Nil returns do not qualify. A player with a non-competition handicap may enter and play in all club competitions with the exception of the Club Championship and the Knockout Competitions but will not be eligible to win vouchers or trophies. 40 TEMPORARY GREENS Temporary greens will be positioned on the approaches to the main greens if, in the opinion of the Course Manager, the weather conditions merit it. The priority is to prevent long-lasting damage to the main greens and ensure that the whole golf course is in optimum condition during the peak season. The temporary greens will NOT have holes cut in them. Players hole out once their ball strikes the log bearing the flag. In the case of top-lying frost play on the front nine holes will transfer to temporary greens but the back nine will remain on main greens. If the frost is prolonged and/or underlying then play on all 8 holes will transfer to temporary greens. If the Academy Course is on temporary greens the chipping green will also be closed. If any of the holes on the 8-hole course are on any temporary greens then the putting green will also be closed. A decision on the protocol to be followed for each day will be taken at 8am that day and communicated to the Golf Lodge: either the situation will remain as it was at 8am or, if the frost is due to clear, play will transfer back to main greens between 0am and am. In the event of extreme weather conditions or green/fringe repairs, play will be temporarily transferred onto temporary greens for as long as is necessary. Players are asked to respect the decisions of the greenkeepers and thanked in advance for their co-operation. WINTER RULES Unless advised to the contrary by the Course Manager, Winter Rules will be in effect from October to March. Placing on fairways and closely mown areas in October and March. Teeing-up or use of mats on fairways and closely mown areas in November, December, January and February. No placing, teeing-up or use of mats in rough ever. Plugged balls may be lifted, cleaned and dropped through the green. No requirement to have flag removed when putting (general play only)... LIGHTNING / FOG In the case of lightning or fog, play will be delayed or suspended and this will be indicated by the blast of a klaxon. All play must stop immediately. Balls should be marked where they lie and all players must leave the course completely. Play must not resume until the all clear is sounded by a second blast of the klaxon from the Golf Lodge. All tee times on the day will be moved back by the exact duration time that play was suspended. Please check your reallocated tee times with the Golf Lodge before commencing play. 45 Academy TEE TIME BOOKING PROCEDURES We want to make sure we maximise the number of tee times and give every member the best opportunity possible of getting their preferred tee time.. The name of each individual must be stated when booking. Any use of a false name will lead to immediate suspension of membership for an indefinite period. 2. The Management reserves the right to make up games into four ball matches and single players hold no booking rights unless joining a two or three ball that is already booked or unless there are no part-booked time slots available. In such cases a singles list will be compiled by the golf lodge to fill slots that do become available.. Members may book up to fourteen days in advance. The booking sheet for the date days ahead will be released when the Golf Lodge/Academy is opened every morning.. Members qualify for a reduced rate for their guests and the appropriate green fee must be paid prior to playing. If the Academy is closed, please go to Reception to pay the appropriate fee before you play the course. The Member will be liable to pay the green fee for any guest not honouring a pre-booked tee time. 5. All Academy and 8 hole members are required to display their relevant bag tag when playing either of the courses. Their guests will also be given a ticket upon payment of the relevant green fee. 6. Cancellation of bookings can be made at any time of the day or night (we have an answer machine in the Golf Lodge), as long as we are informed at least two hours before the tee time. 7. ANY MEMBER not honouring a pre-booked tee time WILL be reminded by letter that they are expected to make a cancellation. Any repeat of this within two months will require an explanation in writing to the Director of Golf. Failure to give such written explanation for absence will result in the member s booking privileges being withdrawn for one month. 8. Inclement weather will not normally be considered a reason for non-arrival, unless the course is closed. (So even if it is pouring down with rain STILL phone and cancel). 9. Every member must inform the Golf Lodge of their arrival before teeing off and will be expected to register at least ten minutes before their tee time. You must also pick up your second 9 ticket after the first round when passing the pro-shop. You will NOT be given both tickets on arrival. 0. When playing 8 holes (2 x rounds) please book a second 9 holes 2 hours after your first. If you are round quicker than the 2 hours then you must wait for your second tee time if the course is not available. If you are after your 2 hours then you must alternate with the other people going off the first tee... Academy COURSE ETIQUETTE It is important that the following etiquette is observed: the Golf Team have a difficult job to ensure that everyone enjoys their round and if there is a breach of protocol they do have the right to ask a player to leave the course without a refund of the green fee. Please observe the following: General Play: In the interest of all, players should play without delay. No player should play until the players in front are out of range. Green Fees: A visitor/guest must be a regular golfer and behave in accordance with the rules of the club regarding dress and order of play. The appropriate green fee must be paid prior to the round and all visitors must display their tag on their golf bag to indicate that they have paid their fee. The Club reserves the right to refuse players onto the course at any time. Membership Bag Tags: Please have your bag tag prominently displayed on your golf bag in order for the golf team to properly check the golf course and not disturb your play. Arrival Time: Please arrive promptly on the st tee ten minutes before the allocated tee off time, this way the Golf Academy will be able to verify your arrival and ensure that everyone tees off on time. Please do not practice on the tee areas. Equipment: The sharing of golf clubs on any part of the course is not permitted. Please take care not to be heavy handed when placing bags on the ground. Golf Buggies: In order to hire a buggy a driver must possess a full driving license. No more than two persons are to share a buggy with a maximum of two golf bags on the back. Bunkers: Please ensure that the bunkers are fully raked after a bunker shot has been taken and place the rake completely inside the bunker. Divots: All players should ensure that any turf cut or displaced by them is replaced at once and pressed down. On the tees these should be smoothed and reseeded using the sand provided. Pitch Marks: These should be repaired using a pitch mark repairer. These can be purchased from the Golf Academy or Golf Lodge prior to the commencement of play. Lost Ball: Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not easily be found: they should not search for five minutes before doing so. Players shall avoid slow play at all times. Speed of Play: Slow play is frustrating for everyone so if a group loses more than one hole in front, the group behind if close must be invited to play through. Green keeping staff: They have priority on the course. Please respect them while they are doing their work and they will endeavour, if at all possible, not to disrupt a game. Please show the same consideration to them as would be shown to other golfers using the course at the same time... Academy GOLFERS DRESS CODE Hats or headwear are to be worn the correct way round.
